For Kaladesh, I don't really see it as "Indian/South Asian world." It's more like "inventor world" with a South Asian veneer. For Alara, Bant used Arabic and Middle Eastern theming and linguistics for major characters (Rafiq of the Many, Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer, Asha (who doesn't get a card)), and Naya had a Mesoamerican linguistic theme (Matca Rioters, Nacatl Outlander, Winged Coatl). They are not especially representative of Arabic or Mesoamerican culture. I see Kaladesh as an expanded version of that: the South Asian theme isn't a key part of the world, it's simply how it's presented. You could have an inventor world themed after the central Mediterranean (Nikola Tesla, Guglielmo Marconi, Allesandro Volta) and a heavily South Asian-inspired world, pulling from the Mahabharata, Ramayana, and assorted sutras (although that gets into the concerns of real-world religious texts). I've also never directly talked to anyone from South Asia about it, so my insight isn't especially deep.

As for guns, Alaborn Zealot's got a pretty nice one, and Vengeance goes into the flavor text, but maybe Portal 2 isn't the best precedent.

wallisface Green is super-anti-flying, but cards with flying and a green ability keep being printed. Why is red first strike + green deathtouch a bend? As far as deathstrike goes, first strike is tertiary in black and a non-ability in green, and this only appears on Glissa, the Traitor and Glissa Sunslayer.

Daveslab2022 Would you consider cards like Recoil, Lightning Helix, the guild charms like Selesnya Charm, or Putrefy bad design, boring, or unintuitive? I understand that + =/= . I'm wondering why that's the case.

I completely understand that there's an active effort to prevent color pairs from feeling too samey, and in interest of completion, I feel obligated to say that Voracious Cobra exists. But I still have some questions.

Is there an absolute prohibition on red-green deathstrike? If so, what distinguishes red-green deathstrike from black-green flying/vigilance?

Is there simply too much overlap between 's dedicated removal and deathstrike?

With Ambush Viper, Ice-Fang Coatl, Winged Coatl, and Fleetfeather Cockatrice, is instant-speed creature spot removal more acceptable in than in ?

What makes Golgari Death Swarm a better creative choice than Warrant / Warden, and why did that get printed if it's an inferior choice?

Is there any potential for a card like Warp World or The Great Aurora to be made in ? Why or why not?

I think I'm not explaining myself well.

My central thought is that + does not equal . Red might not get deathtouch, but green has full access to it. Why should a red/green card not get deathtouch simply because red doesn't get deathtouch?

White doesn't get deathtouch either, but Arvad the Cursed, Spiteful Squad, Wintermoor Commander, and others have deathtouch. This can only be provided by the requirement.

doesn't get first strike. Sky Spirit, Leap of Flame, Deft Duelist, and others all have first strike provided by their other colors.

Ergo, a color can provide one of its abilities to a card, even if another color can't.

can provide first strike to a card, even a card, with Neheb, the Worthy, Stromkirk Captain, and Halana and Alena, Partners.

can provide deathtouch to a card, as shown by Needlethorn Drake, Winged Coatl, and Venomthrope.

So why is unable to provide deathtouch to (and ) cards? Is somehow better at removal than these colors?

I promise I'm not asking these questions rhetorically, or in anger. I genuinely don't fully understand. And as I was writing this response, I realize my position hearkens back to GDS3 and the infamous flying vigilance question. To which I respond that since that question was asked, Warrant / Warden was printed, and still no vigilant flyer.

And I think I've derailed this enough. If anyone wants to help me out, start another thread and I'll respond. With my apologies, let's get this back to the many faces of Gruul in Commander.

DemonDragonJ on Why Does TotP Not Trigger …

MagicMarc, Omniscience_is_life, I replaced a copy of Warstorm Surge with Terror of the Peaks in my Riku of Two Reflections EDH deck, because Riku can copy the terror. That deck also contains Winged Coatl, which, with the surge, would allow me to target and destroy any creature, a strategy that will not work with the terror; drawing both cards at the same time is unlikely, but it sill is very unfortunate that the dragon does not allow such tactics.

As I said that I would, I have removed two copies of each of Horizon Chimera, Overbeing of Myth, Trygon Predator, and Winged Coatl, as well as two lands, which reduced this deck to 60 cards and also reduced its average converted mana cost from 3.30 to 3.19, which is obviously a very good thing.

DemonDragonJ on Help Me Reduce My Decks …

The next deck that I wish to discuss is named Fire and Ice. As with the previous decks, I shall remove two lands from it, which leaves me with eight more cards that I need to remove. I likely shall remove two copies each of Dominus of Fealty and Hypersonic Dragon, due to their high mana costs; Mindwrack Liege is more expensive than are they, but it is too good to not have four copies of it in this deck.

I am contemplating if I should remove either Jhoira of the Ghitu or Keranos, God of Storms from that deck, as they are both awesome creatures, but I do need to reduce the number of cards in this deck. Lightning Bolt is also an awesome card, but it is the least essential card in this deck, unfortunately, so I likely shall not keep it. However, if I do remove it, will there be a sufficient number of non-land spells to trigger the prowess ability of Stormchaser Mage? If not, I shall replace that card with Lightning Stormkin.

I also have a blue/green deck named Artificial Evolution, from which I also plan to remove two lands, leaving eight non-land cards that need to be removed. I likely shall remove two copies of Trygon Predator, because, as great as that card is, it is unlikely that my opponents shall have a sufficient number of artifacts or enchantment for it to be necessary for me to have four copies in this deck, as well as two copies of Horizon Chimera, because the lifegain from that card is largely negligible, but flash, flying, and trample are all excellent abilities, so two copies may remain. As good as Winged Coatl is, I still need to remove cards from this deck, so I shall likely remove two copies of it, as well.

Edric, Spymaster of Trest, Maraleaf Pixie, Murkfiend Liege, and Prophet of Kruphix are all too amazing to remove, but Overbeing of Myth is disposable, as tragic as that may be, so I likely shall remove it, as well.

What does everyone else say about these two decks? What cards should I remove from them to reduce them each to 60 cards?
