Omnath, Locus of Land

Commander / EDH RG (Gruul)

Zybox

This is my competitive Omnath build. It is heavily focused on land and is NOT an elemental tribal deck like some Omnath decks I've seen. The elemental theme can be fun and flavorful, but Omnath should be producing enough of a board on his own that you don't really need a lot of other beefy elemental creatures. The few creatures that are included are for mana ramp and card draw, as well as other token producers like Rampaging Baloths and the popular Avenger of Zendikar .

There's a few ways you can win, so you don't have to rely solely on attacking your opponents with tokens. Warstorm Surge and Where Ancients Tread can do a lot of work. One of my favorite (and underrated IMHO) cards is Chandra's Ignition . I've won at least one game by pumping up Omnath with Kessig Wolf Run for +13/+0 or something like that, then casting Ignition targeting Omnath. Ignition wipes the board, including my elemental tokens which trigger Omnath's ability, each opponent takes 18 to the face from Ignition plus a flurry of Omnath "Lightning Bolts". Then, with only Omnath still on the board, one of my opponents takes another 18 commander damage from combat. LOVE Chandra's Ignition. ;-)

Land recursion is very good in this deck and Crucible of Worlds is the MVP. Many cards are borrowed from the typical Titania EDH deck and Titania herself is included in this list for obvious reasons. I'm currently running 40 land in the deck, but this is not set in stone. I can see an argument for more and for less, so time will tell with further testing.

Sac outlets are important for getting immediate value out of your tokens and protecting Omnath from your opponent's tricks. Command Beacon is amazing in this deck if you have a way to recur it, making Omnath always cost his initial 7 mana.

Since we're going to have a lot of mana to work with, big green spells and X spells are aplenty in this deck. Boundless Realms can create you an instant army with Omnath in play. Likewise goes for Splendid Reclamation . One game I managed to fill up my yard sac'ing tokens to Greater Good , then slammed Reclamation to bring back a large grip of land. Seasons Past can appear particularly devastating to your opponents with a full yard (don't forget to grab a land for 0 CMC!). Primal Command is in the deck partially because it can allow you to shuffle your graveyard back into library (I've come close to decking myself once).

This is a brand new list, so feedback and comments are welcome!

Thank you,
