Oona loves mana, and this deck has been through many iterations for me to try making a good combo/control shell. At first it was combo/control on a budget, and then I focused on straight-up mill, and then I decided to finally switch it to combo control, now that I have a steady income and can afford the more expensive cards.

The goal is board control, until you can establish one of the three win conditions (usually involving infinite mana), which will be explained later.

Budget

I recently bought most of the expensive cards, but any cards under $15-20 should be alright. Just nothing super expensive like Grim Monolith or Power Artifact . I will eventually get the missing tutors for this deck as well, along with a better land base. :)

Combos

There are three main paths to victory (I have included total casting costs of the combos):

Basalt Monolith + Rings of Brighthearth

Name a more iconic duo, I'll wait. This generates infinite colorless mana to repeatedly mill your opponents. Copy Basalt Monolith 's untap ability and tap it in response to net each time.

Palinchron and friends (on average)

Palinchron is notorious for going infinite with many cards including with his brother, Peregrine Drake . Here's a few:

Archaeomancer + Ghostly Flicker + Palinchron

Seeing as we use many mana rocks, this is a rather obvious include. By Imprinting Dramatic Reversal and having rocks that can tap for + , we can produce infinite colored mana.

Notion Thief + Windfall and friends average

This is not necessarily a win condition in itself, but helps advance the gamestate in a way we should be able to draw enough control to put us way ahead in the game. Casting Whispering Madness or Windfall loops our opponents' hands and makes us draw a rather arbitrary amount of cards instead.

Mana Sinks

What to do with all that mana? Put it into a win condition! There are a few of these in the deck:

• Oona, Queen of the Fae

• Capsize

• Exsanguinate

Strengths

Show

• Many paths to victory, usually involving similar combo pieces

• provide for a powerful tutor suite, draw, board wipes, and counterspells

• Not reliant on Oona, and you'll only ever cast her with infinite mana on board

• Folds to extremely aggressive decks

• Combos can be predictable and your playgroup will adapt to them
