Commander Collection: Twisted Twins

Commander / EDH WUB (Esper)

Jurrane

Introduction

“Twisted Twins” is an excuse to use a foil Sen Triplets I pulled from a Mystery Booster. I don’t play the deck very much as it generally induces high levels of salt. It has a theft theme that's designed to cast cards from our opponents' hands.

Plenty of 5- colour lands and mana rocks ensure the deck's able to play spells in its enemies' colours and there's a strong focus on removal, board wipes and counterspells, to deal with threats that hit the table or otherwise try to interact with the hated Sen Triplets. Paradox Haze is included to get a second Triplets activation each turn, in case it didn’t annoy other players enough already.

Playing The Deck

The first thing to do when playing this deck is to first check with your opponents that they’re OK with it. Seriously, it’s THAT irritating.

Assuming the rest of the pod doesn’t make us play a different deck, our goal is to stay alive long enough to cast Sen Triplets and then try keep them on the battlefield, ready to start playing cards from our opponents’ hands or libraries. This is tricky to do as Sen Triplets tends to draw hate like a magnet. However we have a number of other creatures or effects that can do the same thing.

Because we’re – not unreasonably – seen as a threat by other players, we’re often targeted with attacks early on. It’s usually best do whatever we can to remove threats in the early game, either by using boardwipes, counterspells or removal to get rid of the most dangerous stuff. We also have a handful of pillowfort cards to hide behind, including Propaganda, Ghostly Prison and Norn's Annex.

Once Sen Triplets comes on line, it’s party time and we can plunder our opponents’ hands to our heart’s content. Protecting Sen Triplets is usually the priority so either casting our own Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots or Whispersilk Cloak is a good idea, or targeting the player whose cards might be able to offer our own stuff protection.

We don’t run many creatures and most of those we do play are intended to steal or copy stuff from other players. It’s usually a good idea to keep our own creatures back until there’s something worth cloning or stealing on the board, or prioritising removal and board wipes in the early game.
