THis is a standard deck, not modern. My monogreen modern deck does fine.

Tarn and Friends

QKNARWHAL, 6 years ago

+1 Scalding Tarn- last fetch I needed, so that is done.
-1 Plains
-1 Winds of Rath- Meh, not a bad card just barely wiped with Bruna out anyways.
+1 Armageddon- gonna try this as an alternate win con, get her out then blow up the lands.
-1 Void Shatter- Better than Dissipate, but my Dissipate is prettier so it is staying
+1Negate- Nothing wrong with a classic Negate, could also put in Arcane Denial not sure which better.
-1Decend upon the sinful- Good card, but in the end just very expensive to wipe the board.
+1Mox Diamond- Ramp ramp ramp ramp, great card and excited to see how it works.

Land fixing and some heavy hitters added.

The loss of Cryptic Command and Fact or Fiction sucks, but they don't really fit as opposed to other stuff that do and want to try out. I had a hard time choosing between Baneslayer Angel and Geist of Saint Traft to pull from the list in favor for Rashmi. I ultimately went with Baneslayer because of it's CC and size. This might change in the future though. Grand Arbiter is not really the direction I want this deck to go in. I want more of a fun experience at the table, and while spells being cheaper is great I'd rather not hear groans from my opponents when I remind them about the extra cost while they're tapping out. Target reduction while I setup is kind of crucial.

Trygon Predator is great and allowed me to cycle out both Indrik and Relic-Warder. I've cut down a huge chunk of the auras and removed Open the Armory to reflect this and make room for more dudes. Sovereigns is still in there and it's primary target is still Conscription. Might later replace Angelic Destiny with Bear Umbra.

2-1 Gameday

xenon240z, 6 years ago

It was a small 8 person Gameday. It's not really worth it to go into the matches as they weren't exactly the most competitive. But, along with fnm last night, I was able to get some more time in with the deck and it gave me a better feel for it.

Going up to 21 lands feels necessary. I'm adding the 4th Aether Hub.

It breaks my heart to say this, but Bedlam Reveler is just not what this deck wants. I lost a game to zombies where I played it for 2 mana and made 3 drakes off of a Drake Haven because it just didn't matter. It's often too late in the game for the body to matter much and discarding your hand can be a real cost.

Dissenter's Deliverance is pretty medium. And can be really bad in multiples. Against aggressive strategies it slows you down to cycle it. I'm going down to 3 copies.

Is green worth playing? At this point I'm really not sure. Attune with Aether made a lot of sense in the turbo cycle deck. With every change I make it feels like the green becomes less and less worth playing. If I had the lands I would try Jeskai. Cast Out and Nahiri, the Harbinger would be great additions to the deck.

Glorybringer is awesome. I want to try going up to 3 copies.

Kefnet the Mindful is being moved to solely to the sideboard. Not very many people are playing control so it isn't worth the spot main deck. For that match up game one we'll just have to rely on Drake Haven.

I'm going up to 3 Sweltering Suns main for now. But I think I'm going to want to go back to 2. I just don't know what I want in that spot.

Over half way foiled!

Happy to announce that i have managed to foil 54 cards in this deck. Or 54% if you prefer. Some are going to be very difficult to get but that's what hobbies are for right?

Sideboard Notes Updated

Argy, 6 years ago

It took a while but I've finally redone all the Sideboard Notes for Sideboarding against specific decks. They are not hard and fast rules, just what has been effective in playtesting. I have found that less is more. Try to keep the basic components of the deck together, and just sub a couple of cards here and there. Except against Control, where you will need to adjust the deck quite a bit.

Tokens and Sub-themes

Kloudsama, 6 years ago

Added 33 cards to the deck and removed a huge sub-theme that seemed bland to me. With the removal of the Soul Warden like cards and life-gain elements I decided to branch into two categories as replacement to up the tempo of a more aggressive deck. Adding Captain of the watch as both assisting in the token direction I wanted to go with this deck as well as maybe the start of a Soldier sub-theme. Equipment staples of Stoneforge Masterwork and Slayer's plate meant adding some equipment fetching with Open the armory fitting better than Stoneforge Mystic(Nahiri is sadly a Kor). Some staple human cards were added to beef up the deck and add a little spice too, Tireless Tracker continues the Investigate sub-theme and fuels some card advantage. Devout Chaplain for Artifact and Enchantment removal. Cathar's Crusade for pure counter fuel. With the additions of Martial Coup, Increasing Devotion, and Gather the Townsfolk Tokens are more readily available. Westvale Abbey had to be removed because it's a black card essentially, and I'm dumb. With more tokens I added some useful tools in Glare of Subdual and Second Harvest. Overrun is a stand-in until my Overwhelming Stempede comes in. ===accordion ===panel: Added

Gameday 2-1-1

Keos027, 6 years ago

2-0 BW Zombies: It wasn't an optimal version of the deck as seen in the pro-tour, but I chained Yahenni's Expertise in both game right when it was perfect. I won both game by Hedron Alignment which was pretty sweet.

2-0 New Perspective: First game, I had my counterspells at the right moment to counter what needed to be countered. He managed to cast a Sphinx of the Final Word, hit me once but then I managed to do the alignment. I had discarded once early thanks to Collective Brutality and played another one. I secret salvaged and had too many cards in hand so I discarded the last hedron. I had mana up for a counter. Second game, I managed to put Jace, Unraveler of Secrets down. He later used a Traverse the Ulvenwald to get the sphinx but could not cast it and I had a Lost Legacy in hand and since I was far from the alignment and could not deal with the spinx, I hand to name it. A few turns later, I could ultimate Jace and my opponent scooped.

0-2 GW Human. This was basically GB Delirium but with white instead. So was running Gideons, Ballistas and Green Gearhulk. First game I was smashed by Gideon Ally. Second game, Servant, into ballista, into Gearhulk, I could not do anything.

1-1 RG Wolfs/Zada: Got smashed hard by Hanweir Garrison  Meld, Zada and pump spells. Archfiend of Ifnir, Yahenni's Expertise and Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet where my MVPs to keep the board under control and keep my life high. Big shout out to Sorin, Grim Nemesis too, for -6 a Wolf token (the last one on the field) to get my life from 1 to 7, and the turn after to +1 into Never / Return.

With this score, I ended up making into the top 8 and getting a Glorybringerfoil, which was my goal of the day (that and Aligning Hedrons). I managed to do both, so this was an amazing day!

Mainboard

Added

1x Undergrowth Champion

1x Craterhoof Behemoth

1x Seasons Past

1x Avenger of Zendikar

1x Temple of Mystery

Subtracted

1x Thornwood Falls

1x Levitation

1x Urban Evolution

1x Rhonas's Monument

1x Kiora, Master of the Depths

Sideboard

In

1x Levitation

1x Summoning Trap

1x Kiora, Master of the Depths

1x Rhonas's Monument

Out

1x Deadly Recluse

2x Mul Daya Channelers

1x Seasons Past

This was a huge change in deck, and these changes have been implemented over the course of a week. Through trading and drafting, I acquired many nice cards, such as Undergrowth Champion and Craterhoof Behemoth. I will start with mainboard.

For mainboard, I took out Levitation, Kiora, Master of the Depths, and Rhonas's Monument for the following reasons: They were all more useful in sideboard then mainboard, particularly Levitation, which will probably stay in sideboard for a good amount of time. The same cannot be said for Kiora and the monument, which just haven't been preforming super well. Kiora rarely got her emblem out, and the Crashing Wave seemed to be an upgrade. The monument simply didn't do enough work, and the fact that it was Legendary hurt. They will both likely be moved from sideboard to my Standard decks I am working on. As for Urban Evolution, it just wasn't drawing me enough lands, and I've opted to lean towards the Birds+Weaver+Turn 3 6-drop combo more then the Coatl-Evolution trick. It's a nice card, but not as reliable as Explosive Vegetation. Thornwood Falls was swapped out for Temple of Mystery, as scry at times can be nice. For the additions, Avenger of Zendikar and Undergrowth Champion are both cards that have preformed great in this deck. The avenger was doing so well that it needed another copy, and our champion excels at defending early and acts as our much improved Deadly Recluse, as it can become huge as well. Seasons Past is a filler, but I fight so many control decks I have found it more useful then not. At some point, it will be moved back to sideboard. Craterhoof Behemoth has been the angel for this deck. When placed, if it resolves, it will almost certainly win you the game, as you will usually have a large board with cards like Nissa, Voice of Zendikar, and Avenger of Zendikar. That is all for mainboard.

Sideboard has also evolved. Kiora, Master of the Depths, and Rhonas's Monument are both currently fillers, but Levitation is great against other creature decks, particularly token decks, and Summoning Trap is amazing against a counter deck. Mul Daya Channelers was booted, as it was a filler, and a Deadly Recluse was taken out, as Undergrowth Champion plays its role better. Seasons Past was moved from sideboard to mainboard.

Please comment down below suggestions you guys might have for me. They would be much appreciated. I am planning on adding 2 more Undergrowth Champion and another Craterhoof Behemoth, and while I have dedcided on swapping out Open Into Wonder and Seasons Past to sideboard for Kiora, Master of the Depths and Rhonas's Monument, I would still need to take one more card out. I also plan on getting a Rhonas the Indomitable and a Nissa, Steward of Elements for this deck as well, but that is far in the future. Let me know if you guys disagree or agree with my decisions. :)

Another cut (and future potential cuts)

pokepower116, 6 years ago

Cut: Paradox Haze

Add Portent

I only really try and do deck updates when the deck adds/loses an incredibly strong card or when the deck goes under massive renovation; this is definitely the former case. Losing Paradox Haze to the $2 rule is a sad loss for the deck. I wouldn't say it was the best card in the deck, but was one of the most fun for sure. In its place I've added Portent. Another library manipulation card + draw for one blue mana always has a welcome place in Braids.

Rite of Replication and Serum Visions are both currently $1.99 so they will probably be next on the chopping block. Still looking for good replacements for them!

Changes

pphhaazzee, 6 years ago

Trying out Blessings of Nature as its a way for the small modular creatures to get a huge boost if top-decked. As the deck can struggle if it does not draw a big multiplier such as Hardened Scales.

Removed 2x Steel Overseer, 1x Blade of the Bloodchief

Added 3x Blessings of Nature

Deck is built

Zeviander, 6 years ago

I finished putting the deck together and will be testing it later at a casual friend group. I've added two Sorin, Solemn Visitor and one Sorin, Grim Nemesis. I wanted more but couldn't afford to buy more.

I've found it gets kind of mana-flooded in tests, but I doubt it will do better with less mana. I've tried to keep the costs under 5 CMC as best as possible, to make it faster than my other control attempts. I really want this thing to succeed.

I am aware of the infinite combos available with Sanguine Bond and Cliffhaven Vampire, I don't want to pull that out, since the group is so fond of them, I want to beat them without them.

I've also swapped out two Gift of Orzhova for two Soul Tithe, because I want more pressure on them. I might swap out all Gift's for Soul Tithe's.

I'll update again tomorrow, and look forward to any suggestions to help this deck be even better than I believe it to be. Thanks all for looking in!
