Description

Brion is super fun to play and has a few ways to win. The first and most obvious is to use Brion's fling ability on any of the decks big creatures. Serra Avatar with Brion's lifelink can become huge very quickly! Both Hamletback Goliath and War Elemental can be an ace up your sleeve by becoming big fast! With the amount of life gain Brion brings Felidar Sovereign is also a must have!

Zealous Conscripts and Unwilling Recruit are in here for the lolz! There is almost nothing better than hitting your opponent in the face with their own big bad or commander for fatal damage.

I know I want to add everything in my maybe board; Adarkar Valkyrie, Blade of Selves, Command Tower, Enlightened Tutor, Flameshadow Conjuring, Phyrexian Dreadnought, Scuttling Doom Engine, Sol Ring, Solemn Simulacrum, Sun Titan Swiftfoot Boots, Thousand-Year Elixir. I need help figuring out what to get rid of to make room for all of these. I know I will be replacing Crusader of Odric with one of the other creatures because I very rarely have more than 2 or 3 creatures on the battlefield at any given time. Entreat the Angels is only in here because of Odric and Thunder-Thrash Elder is only in here because of angels so those are the I can get rid of but other than that I'm kind of at a loss. If you could recommend things I could drop to make room that would be hugely helpful!

So far the deck has been pretty consistent which I am super happy about. If you have any constructive criticism, any help, or any ideas would be greatly appreciated. If you want to tear it a new one thats fine too!

Thanks for looking!

I see some questionable choices in here (although there might be a reason I don't see, but I'll point it out anyway.

Ajani Vengeant- He's cool and all, but what is he really doing here? Not much from what I can see.

Entreat the Angels- How well do you ramp. It just seems to me that this really wouldn't be worth it with the poor ramp Boros gives.

Also, I would try to find some lower drop creatures that have a more versatility.

Thanks for the comment Deathstroke2791!!

I fully agree with Entreat the Angels, I mostly have it in here because of Crusader of Odric but she is going once I get some of the creatures on my maybe board and therefore so would the angels.

As for Ajani he is in there simply because I love him! He's definitely a weak link in the deck and one of the cards that will most likely be replaced.

Have any recommendations for creatures that fit your description? I would love to lower my average cmc.

I had some issues lowering my cmc with Brion as well. I run him. You want to have those hard hitters, but they are usually high in cmc. Your creature choice seems a little random. In my opinion since you're going to be sacrificing a lot of your stuff, your creatures should all have relevant text. I play Brion with a toolbox strategy. You seem to be more attack attack attack. I don't think Brion is your typical Boros commander. With the list you have, it just looks like an Aurelia, the Warleader or Gisela, Blade of Goldnight deck with a splash of cards specifically meant for Brion. If you're gonna go with Brion you have to go all in with his fling ability.

As for versatile creatures:

Combustible Gearhulk- It's a creature, it can draw you cards, it can deal a butt ton of damage.

Solemn Simulacrum- Its ramp, it's draw, it's a creature.

Flameshadow Conjuring - It can copy ANY of your creatures. That's versatility.

If you want some inspiration here's my decklist. (Still updating the Primer.)

Thanks for the recommendations Deathstroke2791 I really appreciate it. My creature list is a bit random because I built the deck with what I had on hand.

My group's meta is a lot of aggro so things like Flameblast Dragon and Living Inferno are huge help as they can be pretty versatile but I guess at the same time they are in the higher end of the cmc spectrum. Thunder-Thrash Elder is another one that's in here because of Entreat the Angels and once that goes so will the elder.

Combustible Gearhulk is awesome. I definitely need more card draw and this fits perfectly. Solemn Simulacrum is one of those edh staples I haven't gotten yet. This is my first commander deck so I'm still building my edh collection. I absolutely love Flameshadow Conjuring it's cheap and looks like it can be a game changer!

Also Malignus is another Serra Avatar type of creature thats fun to fling. If this is your first EDH deck, I'd check out "The Command Zone" onYoutube. They have a lot of good material.

At the very least, I would try to find room for Thousand-Year Elixir as that pseudo-Haste can be very key to ensuring you get value from your commander ASAP. Not to mention untap triggers are pretty great, so Magewright's Stone can also be a pretty powerful inclusion. And the ability to untap your general cranks up the value of cards such as Molten Primordial exponentially.

And let's not forget that Scuttling Doom Engine is just downright hilarious in this kind of deck. I'm also not sure why you would run Expedite over Hammer of Purphoros, as the latter is static and can even give you more fling targets should you start to draw into excess land. And speaking of land, Command Tower>>>>>>>Rupture Spire

As for things to cut, War Elemental, Invincible Hymn, Living Inferno, Akroma, Angel of Wrath, Sunblast Angel, and Astral Cornucopia seem to be really slow cards for what they do, while cards like Stonehorn Dignitary, Agrus Kos, Wojek Veteran, Bull Cerodon, Dragon Hatchling, Reroute, Wing Shards, and Desperate Ritual just look too low impact/situational to keep.

Anyway, those are just my impressions on the deck. It looks really fun and I hope you find my suggestions helpful.

Quicksilver Amulet I think would be super good in this deck! I really like this deck, and I like the price as well :D

You should really find a way to work in Adarkar Valkyrie, Reya Dawnbringer, and I play a Brion deck with Lifeline in it.

Also, you might run more theft cards, like Act of Treason, Lose Calm, Mark of Mutiny, and the like. Why fling your own creatures all the time when you can fling others? Steal a creature, attack with it, then throw it back to them. Now that's card value.

Here is the list I currently run:

Brion Stoutarm

Teal_Fox I love the idea of more untap abilities! Thousand-Year Elixir is definitely going in! I also love Scuttling Doom Engine! Most of what you recommended to cut I agree can go but War Elemental has been invaluable so far and as of right now still deserves a leading spot in the 99.

Poptartz95 thanks for the recommendation but Quicksilver Amulet is a bit too narrow. Also since I'm working on dropping my average cmc I see it's usefulness becoming even less. I have one tho and will play test it a bit and let you know.

bushido_man96 glad you chimed in! I've been thinking about trying Reya Dawnbringer in her just haven't given her a chance. Also Lifeline looks awesome! As far as steal cards go I'm only running a few because I don't really like them....

Thanks for the recommendations everyone once I get a few more cards I will update.

You might consider Brion's little brother, Bloodshot Cyclops. You don't get the lifegain, but if you put Thornbite Staff on him, you can sac until you run out of creatures.

That's a funny thought bushido_man96, I think it would be hilarious to chain flings together! Especially if it would be for the win. I'll try it out!

You can do the same with Brion, but at the cost of each time, so it limits the repeatability a little bit. I think Bloodshot Cyclops ends up being a great finisher, even without the lifelink.

If you're looking for more ramp, Weathered Wayfarer is pretty fabulous. Since Boros is famously poor with ramp, you'll probably always be behind at least one other player in land total, so you'll get to use him a lot. Plus, it can fetch literally any land you've got.

Also consider Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer. If you've got at least three artifacts in play (which doesn't look like it'd be a problem), all your creatures automatically get +3/+0, so they're even beefier when Brion Stoutarm flings 'em.

Thanks for the recommendations XEYeti!

I've been looking at other Boros decks and our looks like Weathered Wayfarer is a common addition to the deck. And hey if I'm somehow miraculously ahead in mana I can always throw the little guy! I will definitely be adding him!

Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer looks interesting, I will try him out. I don't typically like metalcraft but this looks like a good add!
