Planeswalker (1)

Maybeboard

UPDATED December 12, 2025

I wanted to make a deck with Commodore Guff that could win through other planewalkers' ultimates if needed, but contains other crazy win conditions that each involve a planeswalker (except for LazyEights variant) that can be met and won't be expected (like Barren Glory or Leveler) with the Superfriends archetype.

My playgroup doesn't allow infinite combos or tutors - the goal of our games is not to win as fast and efficiently as possible, but to win in the weirdest fashion or to create the weirdest board state and win - i.e. tribal elves or voltron commanders aren't going to give you any style point with this group.

Would appreciate suggestions! Am looking to make this able to finish the table but still interactive along the way. Or if you like my take on this please just let me know and upvote this!.

Early Game

  1. Get those mana rocks out - will be useful for some of the combos, but also can help with any needed mana fixing.

  2. And some defense - Norn's Annex, Propaganda, Ghostly Prison. The deck is weak to flying and tramplers - so these are needed. 3 of the 4 Chandras can help immediately remove specific threats the turn they are played. Some lands Maze of Ith and Kor Haven can address large threats and swarms of attackers can be addressed by Settle the Wreckage or Aetherize. Or the two board wipes.

  3. Other planeswalkers can help you take care of specific threats the turn they come out as well - exiling permanents Karn Liberated , creating chump blockers Elspeth, Storm Slayer, tapping threats Tamiyo, the Moon Sage, stealing artifacts Dack Fayden, etc.

  4. Probably OK to utilize 1-2 draw spells to get necessary removal/planeswalker utility. Also, Whirlwind of Thought will help you churn through the deck.

It's important to understand all the combo pieces so by mid-game you know where you are headed depending on your hand and board state

Combos/Wincons

  1. WORLDFIRE: After Chandra, Awakened Inferno's first +2 activation, you play Worldfire - you win since everyone else will die on their upkeep.

  2. LEVELER: With Gideon of the Trials in play, cast Leveler during your turn, cast Fractured Identity, let resolve. Win after each opponent's upkeeps.

  3. ULTIMATES: Assuming you don't draw into a full set of combo pieces or Heliod - you can win by some powerful ultimates (Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded, Ajani, Caller of the Pride) utilizing The Chain Veil or Oath of Teferi to accelerate.

  4. HELIOD'S OPTIONS: Thanks to LazyEights on Reddit for for this idea coupled with OPTION 1 below: With Heliod, the Radiant Dawn   out, pay the mana and flip him. Wait until the end step before your next turn. Now cast Day's Undoing or Wheel of Fortune making all your spells cost 22 less (with 3 opponents + the one card your last opponent drew at the beginning of their turn). Play out all your free mana rocks. Hopefully you have drawn into one of the X draw spells Prosperity, Skyscribing or even Echo of Eons will likely let you assemble one one the wincons. In a pinch if you have Chromatic Orrery or Chandra, Legacy of Fire + enough other planeswalkers on the battlefield you can keep drawing to search for a second X draw spell. At this point even with just two 7-card draw spells with 3 opponents, you're looking at 43 cards drawn by opponents this turn. You can draw the rest of your deck if you have one more X draw spell (or most of it depending how many opponents are left). With your whole deck (or a hefty chunk) in hand you need 9 mana to finish things off. If you somehow got here without 9 mana, cast Rebuild for one mana and recast your mana rocks untapped. Now cast Silence. Your opponents have full hands and the last thing we want is for them to actually use them. Now, you are left with a lot of options:

    • Option 1 (As per LazyEights): Cast Leveler, Sentinel Totem, and Patchwork Gnomes for free.

Holding priority, cast in this order: Barren Glory, then Dimensional Breach, then Fractured Identity
targeting Leveler, then Balancing Act. Discard the rest of your hand to Patchwork Gnomes.

Balancing Act resolves. Be sure to keep Sentinel Totem and Leveler as you are sacrificing permanents. Your opponents discard their hands to match yours.

Fractured Identity gives each of your opponents a copy of Leveler. They exile their libraries.

Dimensional Breach exiles the battlefield. At each player's upkeep they can return one of the exiled permanents.

Barren Glory enters an empty battlefield and you have an empty hand.

Go to your upkeep. With no way for your opponents to respond to your upkeep trigger and all of the requirements of Barren Glory met you can safely put Barren Glory's trigger on the stack ahead of Dimensional Breach's to win, or you can let Dimensional Breach return Sentinel Totem to the battlefield. Tap and exile it to exile all graveyards, the last cards that were still left in the game.

    • Option 2: Tap your mana rocks for 2 white, 3 blue mana and hold priority then casting Deepglow Skate, Tezzeret, Cruel Machinist and Dimensional Breach in that order. Dimensional Breach resolves exiling all permanents. Tezzeret enters and then Deepglow doubles his loyalty counters which allows you to ultimate him immediately to put an army of 5/5s on to an empty battlefield as you should have 50+ cards in hand! Honestly, even without playing Dimensional Breach this may allow you to win.

    • Option 3: If 7 or less cards in library, and Jace, Wielder of Mysteries in play, ultimate to win. Again can cast Jace and then Deepglow Skate to ultimate.

    • Option 4: With Chandra, Torch of Defiance out - ultimate her to play out all your (now) free spells (or use your mana rocks, or cast Rebuild and put out the mana rocks again untapped). This may be able to get rid of some or all of your opponents depending on life totals at this point in the game.

NOTE: Another way to get your library in your hand is to ultimate Mordenkainen and then proceed with any of the options above.

NOTE: If any sorcery combo pieces end up in the graveyard, you can play them if Chandra Ablaze or Jaya Ballard are in play and can be ultimated.
