Mairsil the Pretender has some real potential to be a funky general. It was the general that spoke to me the most from the new EDH set, I was instantly intrigued.

And I've learned that once he gets just a few abilities, he becomes almost impossible to get rid of.

The idea is to get as many activated abilities in mairsil as you need to get a win.

I really love this deck, to me it feels like i'm assembling all of the pieces of the puzzle, one by one making my general more of an unstoppable force, and getting closer to get one of the several ways to win the game.

This deck is (obviously) fully focussed on the commander, it simply does not function without him.

So, how do we win?

one way is to get the abilties of Tree of Perdition and either Spikeshot elder or hateflayer to get an insta-kill combo of abilities. tap to put the opponent on 4 life and then proceed to blast the last 4 damage with the other ability.

You do however need to get some type of blink effect in order to kill multiple opponents. Best choice is obviously the Deadeye Navigator.

the other win conditions can be a bit more difficult to assemble as they require more pieces.

Quicksilver Elemental plays a pretty big role here, as it can get all of Mairsil's abilities but without the 'once per turn' clause.

(Necrotic Ooze is essentially a backup Quicksilver if I need it.)

So basically: something like Gilded lotus or Basalt Monolith + any untap ability gives me unlimited mana.At that point if you can't win...Well then you're just doing something seriously wrong.

Draw your entire deck with arcanis/magus/staff of dominance and win with Lab maniac.

Exile all of your opponents their decks with Oona

Spikeshot elder/hateflayer is obvious

Destroy all of your opponents their lands with Minion of Leshrac

Or simply beat face with Steel Hellkite's pumping ability...

I could probably go on.

You get the idea... Choose whatever you'd like to see as a win and go for it!

UPDATE

I've had an FNM with this deck, a 2HG, and we went 3 wins and 1 loss.

In 2 headed my deck performed really well, providing good support for my teammate, and enabling the killshots.

It also taught me to play more counterspells if I want to be stronger.

So i put in Izzet Charm, Turn Aside and Kozilek the great distortion, mostly to protect mairsil from removal, at least until the point where it becomes almost impossible to get rid of him, which happened multiple times at the fnm.

All in all it's a very strong and very fun deck, which i'm sure can improve even more in time. So any suggestions are very welcome!
