I made a new friend recently, and his birthday is coming up. He played MTG for the first time recently with some very simple vanilla cards, and enjoyed it. He is also interested in game design himself.

I want to get him into EDH, and I think Mayael is a great commander for a new player. I also want his birthday gift to cost me around $15.00 USD. Some of these cards I already have, so I'm not placing as much weight on them, cost-wise.

I've never built in Naya before, so let's hear suggestions!

I have the basic ramp package here right now, but I'm not committed to it. Still working on lands and everything else.

Please suggest instants, sorceries, etc..., in addition to big fatties for Mayael to pump out. But suggest those too! Keep in mind, though, I am looking for cards that will cost me roughly 50 cents or less, or things I already have in my binder that I won't mind parting with.
