Sword of Hours

Artifact — Equipment

Whenever equipped creature attacks, put a +1/+1 counter on it.

Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage, roll a twelve sided die. If the result is greater than the damage dealt or the result is 12, double the number of +1/+1 counters on that creature.

Equip (: Attach to target creature you control. Equip only as a sorcery. This card enters the battlefield unattached and stays on the battlefield if the creature this card is attached to leaves the battlefield.)

CamraMaan on Interaction between Lure and Sword …

Both Lure and Sword of Hours are on an 8/8 deathtouch trample creature. This creature attacks and is blocked by three 2/2 creatures. How many times will Sword of Hours trigger and make me roll a d12?
Thanks in advance!

Hey Breastiny, good to see other people brewing with Isshin!

I'd see about maybe running Kentaro, the Smiling Cat as a cheap mana-fixer, to ensure you never have the wrong colors. Fumiko the Lowblood is an excellent card here; your opponents are forced to swing, even with creature they don't want want to attack with. They will either attack other opponents (helping you win) or attack into a pumped-up Fumiko, which will lose them their creatures. In a true Samurai tribal deck, Nagao, Bound by Honor, Takeno, Samurai General, Konda, Lord of Eiganjo and Godo, Bandit Warlord can't be omitted.

As niche picks, consider Iizuka the Ruthless and Opal-Eye, Konda's Yojimbo. The former will put your foes on the back foot, as they never know when the double strike might come through. The latter provides defensive utility, especially late-game when you have access to more mana.

On the non-Samurai end of things, some Equipment that synergizes with Isshin seems like a good call. Sword of the Animist gets even better by fetching you 2 basics instead of 1, while Sigil of Valor and Reaper's Talisman double up on your other 'attacks alone' effects. Other Equipment improved by Isshin includes Argentum Armor, Delver's Torch, Moonsilver Spear Sword of Hours and Trepanation Blade. If you find yourself in need of additional (non-Samurai) cannon fodder, Captain's Claws and Sigiled Sword of Valeron will do in a pinch.

Hope this helps! Good luck :)

Sword of Hours will serve ya well here, and fits thematically. Whispersilk Cloak will not only get your attackers through, but also protects your key pieces. And though it’s not a samurai, Tyrant's Familiar is a haymaker when combined with your commander. Mardu Ascendancy would really be a boon to ya here. You might also wanna look into a bit more removal. Darksteel Mutation is great targeted removal, and Tragic Arrogance is a phenomenal board wipe, keep your best stuff and make your opponents keep their worst, perfect! Hope those ideas help ya, have fun with the deck!

Niko9, I am going to save a bit of spending and I think getting Doubling Cube and Sword of Hours makes the most sense. In gameplay one thing that has really helped this deck get off the ground also is haste, because getting to where you're casting dragons can take a bunch of turns. So in addition to Fires of Yavimaya and Dragon Tempest I am also going to be adding Temur Ascendancy and Fervor. To make room I may actually remove a dragon or two as once they're out they are really strong.

drwombat Glad it helped : ) I got excited about Ramos when I saw Sword of Hours Like, wait a sec...does it?...it does!

But again, I don't know a ton from experience. I imagine it's a balancing act having colors of spells for Ramos' ability. I even saw someone else running Transguild Courier to hit all colors for Ramos.

Good luck with the deck! And I totally hear you about keeping tribal dragons. Dragons have always and will always be cool.

Ramos is a really awesome commander. Big giant clockwork dragon that can do any number of things in any number of ways, yep, so cool. I've never built Ramos, just thought about it a few times, but what do you think about having ways to power counters onto Ramos and pay off his mana ability? Things like:

Kalonian Hydra

Sword of Hours

Doubling Cube

Karn's Bastion

Solidarity of Heroes

Avabruck Caretaker  Flip

Hardened Scales

Luminarch Aspirant

and Slippery Bogbonder can be really good, giving Ramos permeant hexproof, moving all counters to him, adding a counter to Ramos, and also being a counter to removal. Snakeskin Veil can be similar but more limited.

There are a ton more, but I don't know, it's just something I'd been thinking about with Ramos. Looks like an awesome dragony list you have!
