Pridemalkin

Creature — Cat

When Pridemalkin enters the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control.

Each creature you control with a +1/+1 counter on it has trample. (This creature can deal excess combat damage to the player or planeswalker it's attacking if lethal combat damage would be dealt to all blocking creatures.)

MrHawtStuff,

You have lots of cat lords, Feline Sovereign, Kaheera, the Orphanguard, King of the Pride, etc. as well it works with self-modifiers like Loam Lion and Qasali Pridemage the new cat Sovereign Okinec Ahau can permanently +1/+1 counter your cats. Notably missing (in your maybeboard) Regal Caracal would give everyone lifelink too.

Glittering Lynx seems off, the isn't that disruptive for an opponent if it matters. I think you're trying to maximize your MV 1-drop cats, but Arcbound Mouser would give you a second Trained Caracal with upside instead. Lion Sash is also nice, but it is MV 2-drop.

The other new cat would be good: Kutzil, Malamet Exemplar, he could replace something like a vanilla Leonin Skyhunter or a mana sync like Bronzehide Lion or a really high cmc creature with low value like Jareth, Leonine Titan who probably is a win-more at MV6 that won't turn a loss into a win, really he MV7 to activate. Card in that MV slot has to be extremely impactful. Cats like Scrounging Bandar also work well with this new cat. Limiting interaction on your turn especially flashing in +3 spells (Indomitable Might) is really nice.

Leonin Relic-Warder is nice for controlling artifacts/enchantments and providing another MV2 cat.

Everybody Lives! gives another Heroic Intervention type effect.

Farseek is MV2 but I'm betting Harvest Season probably does more work at MV3. 35 lands seems like a lot for a low curve, maybe some low MV ramp like Talisman of Unity. Boseiju, Who Endures is a good forest but it's stupid expensive.

Rancor is a really nice trample/evasion enabler. Or like a Shadowspear or something which also helps out with Indestructibles blocking your cats. Pridemalkin is on a cat body, but don't like the MV3.

Mirri's Guile is okay, but a bit of a trap, way more value at MV2 with Sylvan Library

Song of the Dryads I get for locking out a commander but some instant interaction like Stroke of Midnight are usually more utility in more situations, might be a meta card though.

Eladamri's Call will bring up consistency to draw the finisher cats.

Cheers

Crow_Umbra,

Yeah can grow your cats fast, really needs Pridemalkin static ability to be a strong cat.

You can build around him Scrounging Bandar can get you some additional counters from Sovereign Okinec Ahau and you can move them around, Steppe Lynx, Skyhunter Strike Force, Regal Caracal, Qasali Pridemage, Pride Sovereign, Kaheera, the Orphanguard among others, anything that modifies it's attack so that you maximize your +1 counters with every swing, quite a different build than I have but it can be impactful with other cats, and The Ozolith of course lol.

I've looked into this and I really like the path of +1/+1 counters. There are of course plenty of ways to get counters on your creatures in this deck (primarily Willowdusk), so capitalizing off of that with effects that bolster any creatures with counters or give them trample it pretty darn powerful.

First off, the trample givers: Bramblewood Paragon, Gnarlid Colony, Pridemalkin, and Crowned Ceratok.

And some other +1/+1 tribal engines: Mer-Ek Nightblade, Oona's Blackguard, Skyclave Shadowcat, and Tenured Inkcaster who, in particular, is very good in this deck.

And some support for the counters: Armorcraft Judge, Gladehart Cavalry, and Inspiring Call.

On a different note, giving your creatures lifelink in this deck is insane. Swing with something big to permanently double it's P/T with Willowdusk. Some good cards for that are: Alchemist's Gift, Essence Infusion, Rush of Vitality, Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord, Poet's Quill, and especially Whip of Erebos. Essence Harvest is also in the same vein.

Lastly, one nasty thing you could do would be untapping Willowdusk to use her ability twice in a turn for exponential gains. Ideally, this would be done with cards like: Magewright's Stone, Puppet Strings, Quirion Ranger, Seeker of Skybreak, and Thousand-Year Elixir.

I also want to quickly touch on the other side of Willowdusk's ability with Aetherflux Reservoir Which would let you instakill an opponent then give one of your creatures +50/+50.

As for what to remove, there are quite a few cards I feel are pretty unsynergistic here like Dragonsguard Elite and Witherbloom Pledgemage as this isn't really a spellslinger deck. I also dont see the point of reclamation effects like Deadly Brew, Retrieve, Healing Technique, Dollhouse of Horrors, The Underworld Cookbook, or You Happen on a Glade. Lastly, Roil Spout just isn't legal (probably an error lol).

As someone who started playing the game with a Core Set 19 Ajani planeswalker deck, lifegain is a theme that always appeals to me. Lathiel definitely has some potential to be a great lifegain commander! There are some cards I'd definitely recommend, though.

Thanks for the suggestion, Balaam__! My thought goal with Bladed Pinions was to incorporate more evasion, as none of the Squirrels have any, and with Toski, Bearer of Secrets , it really pays to evade. Additionally, I don't want to spend a ton of mana to play or equip, so more powerful options, while alluring, don't seem better. I considered something like Pridemalkin , Tuskguard Captain , and Bramblewood Paragon , but none are directly related to squirrels, and all are greater targets for removal, so I went with a less powerful option? I'd love to hear your thoughts on all that along with how your suggestion of Lightning Greaves factors in!

Love your choice for commander and the deck!

I'd suggest adding some cards that make him harder to block or at least able to punch through with a bunch of damage. You could consider adding cards that give him trample like Pridemalkin , Tuskguard Captain , Rancor or Loxodon Warhammer . Or you could just make him straight up unblockable with cards like Whispersilk Cloak , Trailblazer's Boots or Prowler's Helm .

Cheers!
