Step one is deciding on whether you want to make soldier tokens specifically or just any type of creature. It doesn't really matter, they're both good and fun to play, but I'll give you suggestions for both.

Anyway, uhh, I just said a lot of stuff. That's my definition of some pointers. You don't want to know what a lot of pointers looks like. Good luck and feel free to ask for more assistance. (:

I think you have the beginnings of a decent Isshin deck here, but could make some minor & inexpensive adjustments to help focus it a bit more.

When making adjustments to your creature base, I'd recommend generally removing anything like Cliffhaven Sell-Sword that doesn't really have any abilities, or Sky-Blessed Samurai, which doesn't really fit with your theme.

Isshin lives primarily in combat, so you'll want to focus on attack triggers if possible. Here are a few relatively inexpensive attack trigger creatures that I like, some of which I run in my Isshin deck:

Vigilance Anthems are also super helpful for keeping your board swinging aggressively, but staying untapped for blocks. A few I really like:

So, I think why your deck isn't ranking so high is a lot due to your having so many basic lands in the deck.

Aside from that, you have very few creatures in the deck, and many that you do have don't do things that other similar cards can do far better, or can't effectively be doubled by Isshin.

Take, for instance, Ankle Shanker. All of your creatures gaining deathtouch and first strike is cool and all, but doubling that with Isshin doesn't actually do anything. Focusing your deck to actually get double triggers that result in true doubling would increase your deck's effectiveness.

Other creatures you have, like Skyknight Vanguard, drop a single token creature. Two, with Isshin. However, a creature like Hero of Bladehold gives +1/+0 to all creatures, and drops 2x token creatures ... or, with Isshin, gives everything +2 power and drops 4 tokens. Yes, this creature costs like $9 to buy, but that's because it does great things and is far more efficient, not to mention it's lower mana cost, and that's how you a deck can be rated as more competitive.

It may help for you to possibly add more Samurai to your deck. It appears, with all the equipment and few creatures, that you want to attack in smaller numbers anyhow, and Samurai can help you benefit from that. You have Godo, Bandit Warlord, but the only samurai you have is your commander. Guys like Raiyuu, Storm's Edge might be more efficient for you (and he's cheap).

Personally, I'd try to find ways to fit in cards that would allow you to draw more, or at least some recursion.

Cards such as Response / Resurgence, Unburial Rites, Ancient Craving, Sol Ring, and Opal Palace are all cards you could get pretty easily and they could immediately benefit your deck.

Ok, Devilish Valet is disgustingly good here. Turn 4 I swung for exactly 40 damage and took an opponent out.

Turn 1 land go.

Turn 2 Skyknight Vanguard.

Turn 3 draw/play Sol Ring and Brimaz, King of Oreskos.

Turn 4 Devilish Valet first then Isshin. Swing Valet, Skyknight (+2 tokens), and Brimaz (+2 tokens). Isshin +4 tokens trigger Valet 5x bringing his power to 32 +8 from the tokens and others 2 creatures.

Thanks for the suggestions. As the list is, it is running fine, so I do not have too many plans to change it, not that your suggestions have no merits.

I was running Skyknight Vanguard and ever since I added that and Honored Crop-Captain along with some aggro stuff, the deck started running wonky and got stomped all over. I dropped those out recently and added some more midrange stuff and the deck has been running much better.

Breena, the Demagogue: unless I am misunderstanding this card, it just doesn't seem too great to me. I mean, yes, the politics aspect helps a lot, but I am not a fan of my opponents drawing as well. Tymna the Weaver: will definitely be an add if I feel the list is running slow and not drawing enough. I have been going back and forth on adding her, I just cannot fit her in the current list. There is some draw for now: Kaya, Ghost Assassin, Phyrexian Arena, Bolas's Citadel, Skullclamp, Chief Jim Hopper, Esper Sentinel, and sort of Land Tax

Ramp: It seems to be fine to me as is, at least with how the deck plays. I have only tested the current list a couple of times and only 1 on 1 so I will see if more ramp is needed. 9 mana rocks seems a bit hefty at times. I will note I am running some treasure token producers and may add back in Smothering Tithe, I dropped it to test Unquenchable Fury as Tithe didn't feel too necessary at times. Aerial Surveyor also ramps pretty well and Land Tax helps with hitting the land drops.

Protection: Iroas, God of Victory Serves as Dolmen Gate while giving them menace and acts as a 7/4 beater. Teferi's Protection may go back in, I just dropped it but we will see. I guess in working on my protection I was more concerned with counterspells and certain blue board wipes (which is why Grand Abolisher, Deflecting Swat (lul cyclonic rift), and Defense Grid are in there) rather than worrying about other board wipes. I added Legion's Initiative as it kind of acts like Teferi's Protection in that it works a bit better to protect from exile wipes like Winds of Abandon and Farewell than some of the indestructible protection spells.

Fireflux Squad: for some stupid reason it never occurred to me to use this on the tokens. I will definitely find a spot for the squad.

I have a few suggestions for you. The main things I'm noticing is your creature's avg cmc is really high (4.45 avg), a slight lack of ramp/draw, and a lack of ways to protect your board from combat/boardwipes. You've got most of what I'm pointing out in that giant maybeboard... but what the hell.

First, creatures: Skyknight Vanguard is a cheap token producer. Soltari Champion equals +2+2 for your team w/ Isshin and Shadow means it'll survive combat. Breena, the Demagogue and Tymna the Weaver both help with card draw. I'd cut like 5-7 creatures and a few costly non-creatures that cost 5+ for these and other additions.

Ramp: Get all of your Talismans in here. Talisman of Indulgence, Talisman of Hierarchy, and Talisman of Conviction. Fellwar Stone deserves a spot too honestly.

Protection: Reconnaissance, Dolmen Gate, and Gustcloak Savior all protect during combat (the first 2 + Iroas ought to cut it but the bird is budget friendly). Boros Charm, Teferi's Protection, and Flawless Maneuver are all excellent options for boardwipe protection (I recommend at least 2 if not all 3).

Muh Favorite Attack Trigger: Fireflux Squad has been amazing. Exile 2 tokens and turn them into gas.

The first thing that's jumping out at me is how many high drop creatures you're running. I bothered to do the math and your creature avg. cmc comes in at a whopping 5.04. I suggest more 3 drop and under creatures like Hanweir Garrison  Meld, Skyknight Vanguard, Soltari Champion, Akroan Hoplite, Honored Crop-Captain, Breena, the Demagogue, Captain Lannery Storm, Coastline Marauders, and Mirror Entity while removing some of your highest cmc creatures.
