It's been six years since I visited with the Jelly Bean. As angry and powerful as he is, he was in sore need of some kindness and TLC. This update was long overdue, and was primarily sparked by seeing Awaken the Woods for the first time. That card is straight sauce in this deck. Anyway, here's to a new and stronger Omnath. Can't wait for my play group to hate him even more.

@Crow-Umbra - Thanks for the awesome suggestions! Marchesa's Decree is a good potential switch for Revenge of Ravens, as it gives me more card draw, and I really want to find a home for Gruesome Realization. As you pointed out, the modality is fantastic. My current meta really only has Kardur, Doomscourge as a commander for goad, and the deck is essentially just the per-con at this point, as the player is brand new to magic and bought two of the starter commander decks to play with us.

Hello to anyone else who reads this. I've been playtesting and working on my other deck - Isshin for a fight - for a bit now, and thinking about card draw and protection in Mardu () has got me thinking about this deck and what it needs. I've been playing this deck in paper about once or twice a week during my group's game night, and it has quickly become one of the more hated/feared (aren't they the same thing? ;) decks in our meta. Alaundo the Seer is basically a kill on site commander, but the deck really relies in him and leans into the alpha-strike mentality for its win-con. If you remove my big threats or Alaundo with targeted removal or a board wipe, I'm essentially dead in the water. Simic Ascendancy is pretty much the only back-up, but it also needs creatures and counters generated through card draw to function. So with ALLLL that in mind (sorry for the rambling) I'm adding both Tamiyo's Safekeeping and Heroic Intervention to the maybe board, and will be looking to make a cut for one of both of them. I'm personally leaning a little more towards Tamiyo's Safekeeping currently because of the card draw aspect, which is what the whole deck functions around. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Deck needs more card draw, and ramp and lands are just about right, may cut a single land, not sure. But more card draw is needed, and so Campaign of Vengeance is getting moved to the maybe board because I already have effects that are similar, and Skullclamp is getting added to the deck. This was a suggestion by Crow-Umbra and I think it's the right call.

@Crow-Umbra Thanks for all the awesome suggestions! I looked over the spoilers and added the cards you talked about (they all made sense in terms of token support and impetus draw) and saw a token doubler in Mondrak, Glory Dominus that can protect itself! I think leaning into the token theme might be the best way to go, and I've had a couple of games recently where I'm not really producing tokens at the rate I want to be. So with that in mind, I made some changes to the deck to support tokens and produce more of them.

After looking at my deck list, I've realized that the deck functions highly around creatures getting their attack triggers doubled, which is obvious. What's not so obvious is that almost all the creatures are four cmc or above, which means Sun Titan doesn't really grab me back much value in terms of what the deck needs to win. It's really just a lot of artifacts that are ramp related. So with that in mind, I'm cutting Sun Titan and putting in Marton Stromgald. I think this will help with combat and reduce my curve which was a recommendation from Crow-Umbra and is good practice when making a deck that's more aggro. I also really want to put Karlach, Fury of Avernus back in, as even just the one additional combat is fantastic for the deck and proc-ing triggers.

also, @Crow-Umbra, what's your take on putting in some tutors? I own the big ones, but haven't really envisioned Isshin as needing tutors. I could slot in Vampiric Tutor, Demonic Tutor, Enlightened Tutor, Imperial Seal, you name it. But I don't know the deck well enough yet to say in a given situation, "I need card X in order to win."

Okay, Inquisitorial Rosette in for Captain's Claws, 100% easiest switch ever! And where would you make some cuts to the deck in order to fit in Skullclamp, Plumb the Forbidden, and possibly Esper Sentinel?

@Last_Laugh Got it. Do you feel like your meta doesn't have a lot of other go wide players in it? My meta has an Edgar Markov deck, a Lathril, Blade of the Elves deck, a Rat Colony deck, a Ghired, Conclave Exile deck, and a Purphoros, God of the Forge deck, among others. I guess that has kinda affected my viewpoint on what tapping a few creatures per player is worth. But I can see it still having value in terms of getting through if all the opponent has is one or two big threats. And that makes sense about making changes. I just built, online only currently, my first Isshin deck and I am looking around to see how other people have built theirs. Thanks for any tips and feedback in terms of how games have played out and what works well in your deck!

@Last_Laugh I like your deck! I had a couple of quick thoughts. 1) Myriad doesn't get you an extra attack trigger from the token it creates that comes in tapped and attacking. As an example Hammers of Moradin is going to tap, assuming Isshin is out, at most 6 creatures, not 18 creatures, as the tokens created by it's myriad ability won't trigger the on attack ability again. It works great on creatures that care about combat damage, like Battle Angels of Tyr but for obvious reasons that's not what Isshin decks are building around. 2) I think Paladin Class might be worth a second look. Yes, the level three ability costs 9 cmc to get to, which is a lot, but it's level 2 ability, which is only 4 cmc, makes all your 1/1s into 2/2s. That's an effective doubling of damage output. What would I cut for it? Well, based on thought number 1, probably your Blade of Selves. Anyway, let me know what you think!

I'm making two switches to the deck. I'm cutting Disallow and going back to Arcane Denial, because there have been a number of games where the extra in Disallow's cost has been enough for me to not be able to cast it, and in my current meta, there aren't too many egregious abilities that need countering. The primary play testing done with this deck was in a 1v1 setting, against a Mayael the Anima deck, so naturally, that ability was always foremost on my mind. Additionally, Arcane Denial leans into the card draw mechanic, and thus fits more with the theme of the deck. The second switch I'm making is removing a Forest and putting in a Mosswort Bridge. The whole point of the deck is to have large creatures get in for lethal combat damage, and so having a land that will allow me to cheat out something for "free" while still tapping for a forest is great value.

@ plainsrunner and Crow-Umbra(Cool name btw) Thank you both for the suggestions and help! This was the average deck on EDHREC, and I will be making cuts post haste! I already switched out Blasphemous Act for Wrath of God, but now I'm leaning towards Toxic Deluge. I'm not sure why so many decks run Blasphemous, as I tend to encounter either permission or indestructible often enough that it seems over valued among the EDH community. Anyway, good to see some auto cuts. @ Crow-Umbra I have a Purph deck already, and love how quick it can be, so the idea of leaning into tokens with Purph is obviously already up my alley. I like the idea of extra combats, but if they aren't untapping each time, then I see that point very clearly. I was thinking of putting in Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, and it looks like I'll have the space right away. Thanks for all the feedback, and please keep it coming!
