Overwhelm

Sorcery

Convoke (You may tap your creatures as you cast this spell. Each creature you tap while casting this spell pays for or one mana of that creature's colour.)

Creatures you control get +3/+3 until end of turn.

Darb_the_Bard on A fistful of Myr [Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch]

My favorite part of Urtet is untapping all the Myrs and finding ways to take advantage of that. To that end, I think Improvise is a great mechanic in this deck (Kappa Cannoneer and Organic Extinction are great examples already in the decklist). Since the artifacts are also creatures, Convoke can be similarly powerful. Both are even more powerful in your list since you are also running cards like Drumbellower and Unwinding Clock.

I mentioned some good Improvise cards in a previous comment, but here are some more fun possibilities:

  • Whir of Invention - 3 blue pips is tough, but perhaps worth it if leaning into blue and you like tutors
  • Saheeli's Directive - 3 red pips this time, but perhaps the upside is worth it?
  • Battle at the Bridge - likely just one black mana to get rid of a creature, even if it has indestructible

And here are some possible Convoke cards:

  • Obelisk of Urd - often "free" while pumping all your Myrs, which can still untap after the Convoke and attack with the pump that same turn thanks to Urtet
  • Return to the Ranks - get back a bunch of 2-mana creatures (I would likely want to pack a few more in the deck to make it worth it, but something to consider)
  • Endless Obedience - recursion from anyone's graveyard
  • Unmake the Graves - more recursion
  • Ephemeral Shields - protection for Urtet
  • Overwhelm - the creatures you tap for the Convoke will get the buff and can still attack thanks to Urtet
  • Lethal Scheme - destroy a creature or planeswalker while improving your hand with Connive
  • Mob - cheap creature removal
  • Sundering Vitae - cheap artifact/enchantment removal
  • Sprouting Renewal - more cheap artifact/enchantment removal (maybe you want the token sometimes?)
  • Venerated Loxodon - a 4/4 body that gives a +1/+1 counter to every creature that Convokes it; seems especially decent since you are also running cards like Hardened Scales and Doubling Season

Taking out the ones that target Zada and a creature an opponent controls, you could include Giant Growth-eur 0.11-for Thrash / Threat, out Fists of Flame for a 2 mana Overwhelm in the form of Predator's Strike-eur 0.19- (Fists of flame will only ever give +2/+0 in this deck).

Out 2x Nature's Way, in Ajani's Presence for board wipe immunity that can also work without Zada. I don't mind having 4xDomri's Ambush and 2xNature's Way for some cheap removal.

You are 100% correct Geschlechts

From the games I have played so far, I have noticed that haste is an issue. This would also remove my reason for having Overwhelm over Overrun.

Of the 3, I am thinking Anger and Fervor. Anger because I do have the possibility of discarding it, which would mean free haste, and Fervor simply because artifacts are a little easier to remove than enchantments in my playgroup.

The issue now is trying to figure out what to remove, that's always the difficulty.

Thanks xram666,

Those were great suggestions...

The only reason I went with Overwhelm over Overrun is that I generally have a bunch of snakes that entering on my turn, so they have summoning sickness. But I like the idea of Trample better.

Wheel and Deal I originally discounted because I don't get to draw a full hand, but have noticed that really doesn't matter to me so much with this deck. Is now on my list to re-add.

Prosperity is also on the possible list now. I like the idea of others paying for the Minds Aglow, but would be nice to have an extra.

Sudden Impact was on its way out of the deck. Already moved it from active to maybe. The couple times I got it I could always find something better to spend 4 mana on. But the idea of having a 1 version is kinda nice.

Folio of Fancies is probably a no, only because it ends up being a mana sink, and I almost always have a fist full of cards.

Thanks again for the suggestions, I think at least 2 of them are going to make it in. Probably tossing Lhurgoyf and Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind, as too expensive for what they do.

Nice deck. +1 from me. I always like token decks. I would include Overrun for Overwhelm. Normaly you want all of your creatures to attack so convoke doesn't help that much and trample is a nice addition. Maybe even Return of the Wildspeaker because it is so flexible.

Wheel and Deal would be an awesome card for the deck.

And maybe Prosperity as a second Minds Aglow

As you have Sudden Impact on your maybe list... Runeflare Trap should be the better card for this deck

Folio of Fancies could be a second win-option for the deck.

i dont see a lot of decent power cards, so i dont know if your keeping within a budget or not. i also dont totally know what cards you might want to take out to make this work but as a legacy player having seen some insane cards:

Overrun instead of Overwhelm overwhelm is too expensive its a slightly expensive card but - Elvish Piper, Predator Ooze, Pattern of Rebirth, Bane of Progress, Genesis Wave

try this for certain better creatures. i use this to find cards that are alike or better than what i need.

Overall breakdown:

The first thing that stands out is that the ratios for this deck lean very heavily towards single use, non-repeatable effects. There should probably be a bit more land (I'd aim for at least 36 or so), and a few of the cheap fetch lands would go a long way. While you have some token generators, some additional creatures would probably help as well. Think of it this way: late in the game with no cards in hand, how big of an impact will the card have? If you can include a card with more than one use, the chances go up.

TL;DR I would cut some of the limited focus instants and sorceries for some additional land and some creatures/artifacts that still move towards your theme.

Some Suggestions on what to add:

Land: Bant Panorama, Krosan Verge, Naya Panorama, Evolving Wilds, Myriad Landscape, Terramorphic Expanse (6)

Creatures: Acidic Slime, Reclamation Sage, Karametra, God of Harvests, Dauntless Escort, Loxodon Hierarch (5)

Instant: Beast Within, Blunt the Assault, Selesnya Charm, Sylvan Reclamation (4)

Enchantment: Beastmaster Ascension, Song of the Dryads (2)

Artifact: Selesnya Signet, Selesnya Cluestone, Spear of Heliod (3)

My suggestions on what to remove:

Sorcery: Deconstruct, Dosan's Oldest Chant, Journey of Discovery, Overwhelm, Rampant Growth, Revive, Stomp and Howl (7)

Instant: Nourish, Predator's Strike, Restrain, Ruthless Instincts, Soothing Balm, Titanic Growth, Wax/Wane (7)

Land: 1 Forest, 1 Plains (2)

Enchantment: Arrest, Cho-Manno's Blessing, Street Savvy (2)

Creatures: Vine Trellis, Viridian Emissary (2)

aholder7 on Token Convoke

you have 58 cards and 5 Scatter the Seeds so the deck is currently illegal. that needs to be fixed first.

ill go down the list for your cards

starting with creatures

Elvish Mystic: this card is good at ramping you to high cost cards, however the only cards you have that are high cost, already have convoke so this card basically is a 1 mana 1/1 with no effect.

Essence Warden: pretty good card in a token based deck. theres also Soul Warden and Soul's Attendant if you want more of this effect.

Midnight Guard: i mean unless your abusing it's untap effect such as attempting to cast multiple convoke spells a turn, this card is pretty underwhelming. I don't think you will be casting multiple convoke spells per turn due to the fact that they are all so expensive.

Nest Invader: 2 mana 2/2 for 2 is considered a sort of standard/base. this card is that with a free 0/1 which can be sacced for mana. this is pretty good. One thing i will note is that you cannot tap the token for convoke and sac it for mana for a convoke spell. However that's not the end of the world.

Seraph of the Masses: this card is a hopefully going to be a big angel that you can get out relatively cheap. if you have 5 tokens and 5 mana this thing can come down as a 6/6 flyer by tapping 2 guys. that not a terrible deal. however i think it would be more effective to make all of your tokens bigger threats with cards like Intangible Virtue. 5 2/2s can be much scarier than a 6/6. one reason for this is because there are lots of options for cheap removal. Terminate, Path to Exile, Doom Blade etc. are all methods of getting rid of your 6/6 that are cheap and often played. these do not work as well when you have multiple threats.

Siege Wurm: See above.

Sunblade Elf: At first I did not like the card but i'm starting to like it more and more as I look at the rest of your list. I think this card is fine for now since its a 2 mana 2/2 most of early game and it can pump the team late game which is great since you will likely have a lot of tokens.

on to instants

Might of the Masses: this card is itself a good card for this deck but pump spells in general tend to be weaker than you'd expect. That's because of instant speed removal. people can cast Lightning Bolt in response to the spell to kill the creature you are targeting which means you will be getting 2 for 1'd as you lost a creature and a spell to their 1 spell. now that's not to say that this card is bad. I just wanted to make you aware that it's power is a bit more fragile than you might first expect. it is stronger in my opinion than Seraph of the Masses since it is so much cheaper and demands an answer from your opponent immediately instead of seraph which waits around for a turn before attacking and usually requires you to tap several of your creatures.

Raise the Alarm: this is a good card for any token deck. Gather the Townsfolk and Servo Exhibition are decent in their own right as well.

Scatter the Seeds: yeah you want 5 in your deck. sadly you cannot play 5 in your deck. its a token maker card that can put down more tokens to replace the ones you tapped. so you really don't even care if you had to tap 3 creatures to play this.

Sprout Swarm: this card is very powerful even if it seems week. you can pay for the "Buyback" cost with convoke. it's also an instant so you can do it at the end of your opponent's turn. so if you have a bit of mana and a few tokens, its not unreasonable to make 2 tokens at the end of your opponents turn for essentially free, then do it again every turn. for that reason i think you should have 4 of these.

lets do sorceries next

Launch the Fleet: this card is good and bad. its good because it can allow you to make several tokens at a 1 to 1 ratio which is pretty good. however this card has some downsides. its limited not only by the number of creatures you control but the number of creatures you are willing to attack with. you will often times want to hold back your stuff until you have enough tokens to get around most of their defenders or perhaps they have a few strong attackers on their side and you really want to have some defends held back. so this card won't always let you make any tokens regardless of how much mana you have. so this card is fickle and a bit unpredictable which is bad in a card. tl:dr its complicated and im not certain if you want it or not.

Nissa's Expedition: this card is good to help you get some mana out, however to pay for it you either need mana (and if you need to cast this we can assume you don't have that) or you need tokens, however if you need to cast this you probably don't have that many tokens, therefore you may need to tap all of your defender in order to cast this which leaves you wide open without giving you that great of a pay off.

Overwhelm: this card seems like a dream come true. a card that pumps all of you little guys and can be cast for cheaper with all your little guys. seems like the perfect combination right? the problem is that at 7 mana you NEED to tap several dudes to cast this, and for each token you tap to pay for this, that makes the spell that much worse since it's power comes from the number of attacking creatures you have. this card is a trap in my opinion.

Triplicate Spirits: Scatter the Seeds but with flying. see Scatter the Seeds for my opinion on this card.

enchantment time

Sigil of the Nayan Gods: this is basically Might of the Masses but sticks around longer. the problem is that this card is not an instant. masses could be cast after blockers were declared and you would be threatening to deal massive damage if your opponent didn't do something right then and there. this card has to be put on a creature before combat. now they just make sure to block it. it also suffers the same problem that masses did. your opponent can play a simple kill spell and all your set up is wasted. cycling is a nice addition but does not make up for the fragility of the card.

Spirit Bonds: this card sadly does not trigger when a token comes in, which means that it's useless for half the cards you play. you also have to pay mana to get more tokens. which means you have to pay a total of 4 mana for 2 tokens which is a lot worse than just playing Raise the Alarm.

maybe board

Hornet Queen: too expensive for what it does.

Whisperer of the Wilds: 2 mana Elvish Mystic that needs some set up to become a slightly cheaper Greenweaver Druid. i'd suggest passing on this one.
