Spirit Bonds

Spirit Bonds

Enchantment

Whenever a nontoken creature enters the battlefield under your control, you may pay {W}. If you do, put a 1/1 white Spirit creature token with flying onto the battlefield.

{1}{W}, Sacrifice a Spirit: Target non-Spirit creature gains indestructible until end of turn. (Effects that say "destroy" don't destroy it. A creature with indestructible can't be destroyed by damage.)

Spirit Bonds Discussion

Thank you for the detailed reply! I've been impressed by Spirit Bonds when it comes to protection as it also acts as a token producer.

To get the deck count down to 100, here are the cards to remove: Verity Circle, Future Sight, Elsha of the Infinite, Ashnod's Altar, Spell Pierce, Ground Rift. For one reason or the other, they're all not impressive enough for this deck.

Remove-> Replace

Bident of Thassa- Reconnaissance Mission

Feather, the Redeemed- Windfall (Or whatever wheel you like better)

High Tide- Bond of Insight or Mystic Retrieval

Seething Song- Flamescroll Celebrant  Flip (For the back half of the card)

Flame Sweep- Immolating Gyre (Not sure about this one, but seems better)

Dramatic Reversal- Negate

Abrade- Boros Charm

If Enlightened Tutor isn't necessary for your deck, you may want to try Spirit Bonds , as having a permanent way to give kykar indestructible is nice.

Overall, I'd be very aware of what colors your spells cost. Kykar only makes Red mana, and many of your spells cost 1 colored mana. Maybe skew more heavily towards Red, but that's not a hard and fast rule.

Just doing a quick look at the MTG Wiki:

The mechanic Overload arose out of a mechanic designed by Ken Nagle in the first round of the Great Designer Search 1.

Ethan Fleischer's Evolve Mechanic from the Great Designer Search 2 found its way into the game.

Shawn Main created a mechanic in the Great Designer Search 2 that would be renamed and placed in the game as Battalion )

Looting becoming part of Red's Color Identity has its birth in the Great Designer Search 2.

You Make the Creature contest resulted in the creation of Spiritmonger .

You Make the Card contests resulted in the creation of: Forgotten Ancient , Crucible of Worlds , Vanish into Memory , and Waste Not .

The Winners of the Magic Invitational were allowed to design a card that would feature their likeness. From that, we got:

  1. Olle Råde's Sylvan Safekeeper ;
  2. Darwin Kastle's Avalanche Riders ;
  3. Mike Long's Rootwater Thief ;
  4. Chris Pikula's Meddling Mage ;
  5. Jon Finkel's Shadowmage Infiltrator ;
  6. Kai Budde's Voidmage Prodigy ;
  7. Jens Thoren's Solemn Simulacrum ;
  8. Bob Maher's Dark Confidant ;
  9. Terry Soh's Rakdos Augermage ;
  10. Antoine Ruel's Ranger of Eos ; and
  11. Tiago Chan's Snapcaster Mage .

The 2005 Magic Invitational had a vote for a fan-submitted card. Tsuyoshi Fujita's winning entry would eventually become Gemstone Caverns .

Magic 2015 had a number of cards created by famous Magic fans. These cards are:

  1. George Fan's (Plants vs. Zombies) Genesis Hydra ;
  2. Penny Arcade's (of the Penny Arcade webcomic and creator of PAX) Avarice Amulet ;
  3. Markus Persson's (creator of Minecraft) Aggressive Mining ;
  4. Richard Garriot's (creator of Ultimata) Shield of the Avatar ;
  5. David Sirlin's (designer on Street Fighter II) Master of Predicaments ;
  6. Rob Pardo's (lead designer for WoW) Xathrid Slyblade ;
  7. Isaiah Cartwright's (lead designer for Guild Wars 2) Warden of the Beyond ;
  8. Justin Gary's (winner 2003's National Team Championship in Worlds) Spirit Bonds ;
  9. Stone Librande's (lead designer Diablo III) Goblin Kaboomist ;
  10. Brian Fargo's (Founder of Interplay Entertainment, which made the original Fallout games) Yisan, the Wanderer Bard ;
  11. Mike Neumann's (creative director for Borderlands) Chasm Skulker ;
  12. James Ernest's (creator of Cheapass Games) Hot Soup ;
  13. Edmund McMillen's (indie game designer) Cruel Sadist ; and
  14. Brad Muir's (game designer of Double Fine, which made Psychonauts) Ob Nixilis, Unshackled .

I think that should answer your question. There also have been a number of players who were hired directly as a result of their play in tournaments or performances in things like the Great Designer Search, so, in a sense, could be considered fans turned card creators. However, once they become part of the design team, they are no longer merely fan creators, so I am not sure they would be responsive to your question.

RustedChainsaw on Alela's Artifacts

While 37 is the recommended number of lands, because of the large number of mana rocks in your deck and the relatively low CMC of your cards, you could probably cut 2-5 lands. I'd cut Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse, and Emergence Zone first as they are the "slowest". Esper Panorama would be a good substitute for Moorland Haunt - since you're three colors, I'd really limit the number of colorless-producing lands you run.

A couple of cheaper cards I would consider adding:

Favorable Winds

Etchings of the Chosen

Gravitational Shift

Arcanist's Owl

Darksteel Mutation

Propaganda

Ethereal Absolution

Confounding Conundrum

I would consider cutting:

Spirit Bonds - Reasoning: You're not casting enough creatures, Etchings of the Chosen would be a better way to protect your commander)

Cruel Celebrant - Reasoning: I feel you're not running enough ways to sacrifice creatures to get the full benefit

Faerie Formation - You shouldn't have any trouble making Faerie tokens since you already have Alela. There are cheaper ways to draw cards.

Skycat Sovereign - this is only good when you already have a lot of tokens, you'd be better off running an enchantment or artifact that can boost your tokens

Master Transmuter - most of your artifacts are already cheap, and "putting it into play" doesn't trigger Alela's ability - you won't get faeries when you activate this

dichia on Orzhov Spirits

Funkydiscogod, mmh.. so in the end I wasn't wrong switching Teysa Karlov for Ghost Council of Orzhova. I knew about Promise of Bunrei, that's actually what made me change her.

Her giving lifelink and vigilance to all the tokens was pretty good though. It's a shame that her first effect it's hard to synergize with using spirit tokens.

At this point, if I use Spirit Bonds and keep Ghost Council of Orzhova, I could keep the Doomed Traveler since I can sacrifice him with the council, spawning another token, and possibly trigger Promise of Bunrei.

Thanks for the suggestions.

multimedia on Ravos/Tymna commander

Hey, since your deck is low budget consider adding more cards to take advantage of your best card? Your best card is Tymna :)

You have the right idea with wanting to add Kunoros and Kambal. Kunoros because of menace evasion, lifelink and it's a hatebear. Kambal because he can be a repeatable source of life gain. With Tymna you want more creatures who have evasion so they can more easily do combat damage.

White has many good budget flying creatures. Hatebears who fly and can also disrupt your opponents are good in multiplayer Commander: Aven Mindcensor, Kinjalli's Sunwing, Hushbringer, Tomik, Distinguished Advokist, Archon of Absolution. Flying creatures who can create flying tokens: Emeria Angel, Archon of Sun's Grace can be repeatable sources of flying creatures. You also want more repeatable sources of life gain to safely keep triggering Tymna: Soul Warden, Soul's Attendant, Wingmate Roc, Answered Prayers.

Cards that create flying tokens are nice to go wide which helps to attack more than one opponent. Spirit Bonds and Sacred Mesa can be repeatable source of flying tokens. Lingering Souls, Spectral Procession, Battle Screech, Midnight Haunting create flying tokens. Entreat the Angels can create a lot of 4/4 Angels. With more creatures with flying then you can play Sephara, Sky's Blade who has a powerful effect for flying creatures, has lifelink and other flying creatures reduce her casting cost.

Other budget cards ($1-$2 or less each) to consider adding:

I offer more advice including what cards to cut. Would you like more advice?

Good luck with your deck.
