Angrath's Fury

Sorcery

Destroy target creature. Angrath's Fury deals 3 damage to target player. You may search your library and/or graveyard for a card named Angrath, Minotaur Pirate, reveal it, and put it into your hand. If you search your library this way, shuffle it.

You're going to want to set your format to I believe Pioneer, with the cards you're running at the moment.

Take out Brineborn Cutthroat and Protean Raider. They're not all that good in pirate tribal. Take out Wily Goblin for more card draw like Chart a Course, it's going to be better late game and you're not really trying to ramp into a big finisher a turn early anyways.

If you go 4 Forerunner of the Coalition you can basically go toolbox with a similar list to what you have. Otherwise I would down to 6-8 separate pirate cards.

Imo the best pirates are Spectral Sailor, Dire Fleet Daredevil, Kitesail Freebooter, Ruin Raider, and Admiral Beckett Brass. Probably 3-4 of each of those + 4 Forerunner of the Coalition for toolbox, and 1 of each other pirate you want to include.

Fiery Cannonade is better in the sideboard. Swap in against tokens or small creature aggro.

While not explicitly pirates, Angrath, the Flame-Chained is better than Angrath, Minotaur Pirate. I try to stay away from the planeswalker deck planeswalkers. Although you could run Angrath's Fury and keep the deck like the precon I suppose.

Again, I don't mean to ruin your fun, but as this website is designed to help improve decks...

First, I assume it's just a midrange Pirate tribal deck. I don't really see any Revel in Riches shenanigans or anything. There is a little bit of artifact interaction, and I think that's something that could be built upon.

Deadeye Plunderers is a ridiculous card that can end games fast if you can build up a bunch of artifacts. But, it's a liability if you don't have any on the board. A 3/3 for 5 is too slow by itself. I think that two copies sounds fair, and with two copies, you'll most assuredly have a smile on your face when you topdeck it. Going with the Artifact subtheme, I would say 2 Fell Flagship wouldn't hurt.

Captain Lannery Storm is a really nice way to power up Deadeye Plunderers . Even if you don't have one, she ramps you up a turn or two, which if we want to run Nicky B and Moo, we're going to need. Three copies is plenty, as she's powerful, but still legendary.

Dire Fleet Captain works really well in any Pirate deck. I run four in mine, but mine is super aggressive. I think that with a longer game , less copies are necessary. I would also say that Dire Fleet Neckbreaker is a great way to close out games, but for a more casual and fun game, two is plenty. March of the Drowned will also be pretty helpful later in the game. 2x. If you want even more Pirates to go with the treasure you're amassing, perhaps 3 Fathom Fleet Captain .

Now, this shocks me. You run two Planeswalkers from planeswalker decks, but fail to use their fetch cards. Especially as they're perfect in casual games. I would say 2 of both Angrath's Fury and Visage of Bolas . And of course, keep all of the Planeswalkers the same, number and all. I would also say that Angrath, the Flame-Chained is on flavor. Why just take their loyalty abilities when you can help yourself to everything they have? Maybe 1 Admiral Beckett Brass too.

We should put in more Treasure, so 3 Sailor of Means and 2 Wily Goblin . Slap them in with the power of FlexTape! (not sponsored). Removal is lacking, so I would say 3x Unlicensed Disintegration. Trust me, it's worth it.

And we're left with 2 more slots. More instant and sorcery spells would make this a control deck. Hostage Taker is great in casual games, but it costs a pretty penny. I think that 1 copy of Revel in Riches wouldn't hurt, as we have a bunch of treasure token makers. To help you win with Treasure tokens so you can throw them in the air as depicted in the art, then Storm the Vault  Flip is our best bet.

2x March of the Drowned 3x Dire Fleet Captain 3x Fathom Fleet Captain 2x Wily Goblin 3x Captain Lannery Storm 2x Fell Flagship 3x Sailor of Means 3x Unlicensed Disintegration 1x Admiral Beckett Brass 2x Dire Fleet Neckbreaker 1x Storm the Vault  Flip 2x Visage of Bolas 2x Angrath's Fury 2x Deadeye Plunderers 1x Revel in Riches 1x Angrath, the Flame-Chained 1x Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God 1x Angrath, Minotaur Pirate 1x Nicol Bolas, The Deciever

Do whatever with the mana base, I guess. Maybe Artifact Lands. I left out Fathom Fleet Boarder as it literally kills you for no reason. Rona isn't a Pirate and is a liability, and Dreamcaller Siren is neat, but niche. Sideboard material. I believe the list I spent the last hour on is budget, but I hope it gives you some inspiration and perhaps a few new tricks to try with your friends.

Just remember this rule of thumb with Pirates: Anything they can do, you can do better.

Really solid build. I’ve goldfished T5 wins like 4 times in a row, super consistent. You should make a sideboard! I think something like Experimental Frenzy is good to bring in against grindier matches. Angrath, the Flame-Chained and Rekindling Phoenix are also good SB options. Also, it sounds weird but Angrath's Fury could be good finisher, Damage and clearing away a blocker.

Also in the sideboard, Vraska's Contempt and Arguel's Blood Fast  Flip would be solid. Lastly, Dire Fleet Daredevil and Dire Fleet Ravager might be good too.

Really nasty build, +1 all day

The other Angrath, Angrath, the Flame-Chained is much better. I wouldn't play the other one or the card that tutors for him. (Angrath's Fury). If you're looking to just sleeve this deck up and play with friends casually those cards are fine, but if you want to go to your local game store and play at FNM level, there are a few changes I'd suggest.

1.) Play as few "enters the battlefield tapped" lands as possible. The fewer you have the faster your deck is going to be. If a land has to enter the battlefield tapped, it is pretty much unplayable in modern unless it has an ability that is worth it, like the manlands for example. (Celestial Colonnade, Shambling Vent, etc.) So, this means I would cut the Mortuary Mire and the Bojuka Bogs.I would add at least one more Ghost Quarter as opposing manlands are dealt with quite nicely by it, and Tron is a thing you need to be prepared for as you will soon discover if you play modern enough.

2.) Pay attention to your mana curve and make the deck as fast and efficient as possible given the deck's strategy/goal you want to acheive with it. Modern is a fast format and certain decks like Burn, Affinity, Zoo, or Death's Shadow will just kill you before you can go anything meaningful if you have too many cards with cmc (converted mana cost) 4 or higher. You want most of your cards to have an average cmc of 3. This means of course, mostly one and two cmc instants, sorceries (and creatures in decks that are more creature heavy and win by attacking) a good handful of 3 cmc cards and maybe a handful of 4 cmc cards with maybe one or two that cost 5 mana at the most. Decks typically run 21-24 lands depending on the archetype, with some exceptions actually having as few lands as 18. Your deck however seems like it needs at least 22. I personally would put 23 in it if I were building it/playing it competitively.

3.) Have a cohesive strategy in mind when building a deck. Ask yourself, "Do all the cards work well together in the deck? Are there powerful synergies to take advantage of?", "Do all the parts feel like they belong together as cogs in one big machine?"

4.) You need to have a good sideboard and not simply relegate it as 15 card slots that need to be filled with random filler. Your deck should be thought of as 75 cards not 60 with 15 cards thrown into a sideboard. Cards in the sideboard should not dillute or have negative synergies with cards in your maindeck/get in the way with your deck's strategy. (an example of that would be having Snapcaster Mage in your deck but having a couple Grafdigger's Cage in your sideboard.)

5.) Lastly, modern has a huge cardpool to choose from. Making a deck unguided can be a daunting task, especially if you don't know a particular card is outclassed by another card you could be playing that has the same exact cmc. This means you need to find the best options for the available removal, creatures, planeswalkers etc. in the color(s) you've chosen to play. Budget can be a concern and can be a limiting factor here, but in a fast, competitive format like modern there are certain concessions you simply have to make. For example, while Despise, or Coercion are modern legal, they are almost never played because of cards like Thoughtseize, Inquisition of Kozilek and Collective Brutality. Lightning Strike while modern legal, cannot compete with Lightning Bolt. Doom Blade isn't as good as Go for the Throat since the latter kills everything that doom blade does and then some.

Now taking another look at your deck I'd advise you take out all copies of the following cards: Angrath's Fury, Shunt, Reverberate, Never//Return, Vraska's Scorn, Angrath-Minotaur Pirate, Vraska-Scheming Gorgon, crook of condemnation and the lands already mentioned. If your budget is a concern you can leave the Languish but if not, I'd take them all out and add two Damnation instead, as well as a couple Anger of the Gods. I would cut down to two Vraska's Contempt and put them in the sideboard, not the main. I would cut down to one or two Bontu's Last Reckoning in the sideboard. Given the other sweepers that should go or already are in the main, you don't need so many of them. In fact, I would cut everything in your sideboard with the exception of one or two of the bontu's reckoning and Collective Brutality. (which you should have one more of by the way, as the card is great, especially in the burn matchups)

I'd recommend you play 3-4 Inquisition of Kozilek, 1-2 Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet, 1-2 Olivia Voldaren, at least 1 Chandra, Pyromaster (great for killing lingering souls tokens and using the -7 to copy a lighting bolt or collective brutality three times)

Kolaghan's Command is expensive as is Thoughtseize but i'd play at least two of each of those. I'd run one copy of Goblin Dark-Dwellers, maybe 1-2 Gurmag Angler. At least 1 Grim Lavamancer either in the main or the side. A card that doesn't see too much modern play, but one that I happen to like is Blightning, so i'd try out 2 of those. I'd add one more Chandra, Torch of Defiance and 1 Liliana, the Last Hope.

Those are my suggestions/recommendations, I can't make you change your deck, but hopefully you'll consider them.

It seems that you maybe a new player or new to standard but your deck has too many singletons. You want that your deck is as consistent as possible and by first you can choose what you want your deck to do.

Example your deck is BR (rakdos) so it is usually really aggressive so you are seeking cards that cost max 4 mana (With few exceptions).

You should take out Wily Goblin Deadeye Tracker <- (To side) Pitiless Plunderer Lightning-Rig Crew <- (maybe for side) Angrath's Marauders Angrath's Fury Blazing Volley Brass's Bounty Hijack Morbid Curiosity Vraska's Scorn Wrangle Dual Shot Skulduggery Vona's Hunger Treasure Map  Flip Vanquisher's Banner Revel in Riches and Blood Sun and Walk the Plank . You should switch Angrath, Minotaur Pirate and Vraska, Scheming Gorgon for Chandra, Torch of Defiance if you are made out of money and if not then Angrath, the Flame-Chained will just done fine

For good 1 drop you should add 4x Fanatical Firebrand because he is useful even when games get long because sometimes that 1 dmg that he can do directly to face mattes some time. 3 more Dire Fleet Captain because they are hard to kill when you got 2-3 pirates attacking with it. 1 Kari Zev, Skyship Raider because she is reliable 2 drop because she is hard to kill and brings buddy when attacking and 2 Captain Lannery Storm because she has haste and ramps little bit for you to make wider board or faster Angrath. 1 more Dire Fleet Neckbreaker should do fine because she doesn't have evasive abilites but buffs pirates so much that they become even more menacing. (Hazoret would be amazing in aggro deck but she isn't pirate so you don't have to include her if you don't want / can't]

For other spells 1 more Lightning Strike 2 Vraska's Contempt 2 Kari Zev's Expertise 1 Vance's Blasting Cannons  Flip and 3 Shock (or 1 Magma Spray and 2 Shock ) and if you are able to get then 4 Fatal Push and try to put them in as you like

And add 1 more land and if you can you should get 4 Canyon Slough because they make decks more consistent thanks to that cycling

For side take out Blight Keeper Brass's Bounty Costly Plunder Dire Fleet Captain Dire Fleet Neckbreaker Revel in Riches Skittering Heartstopper Storm Fleet Arsonist Sure Strike Wily Goblin because simply they don't do much in most sitsuations

You should add 2 Abrade 1-2 Magma Spray (depending on how many sprays you have in mainboard) 2 Deadeye Tracker 2 Lightning-Rig Crew 3 Blazing Volley or Dual Shot and 2-3 Duress

These are just my thoughts and you don't need to change anything because I say so but these are what I recommend for your deck. If you want / need I can explain why I would take those cards out that I mention and what I would put in
