Zada Hedron Grinder is a commander deck that accomplishes a lot. It's budget (the linked list is well under $100), it's aggressive but it plays like a combo/storm deck. I hope you like it. Added synergy not mentioned in the deck tech is that Dualcaster Mage can go infinite with Heat Shimmer or Twinflame

I love Zada and your build looks very similar to mine. One thing to note, Pyromancer's Goggles unfortunately does not double your spells. Since you are copying with it and not casting it, Zada does not retrigger on the copy so you are basically getting one additional instance of the spell. That being the case, 5 mana to get the goggles out on the board is not worth it at all.

midget_overlord - how are you planning to give your creatures vigilance?

February 16, 2017 4:12 p.m.

I legit didn't even think of that... Wow, I feel stupid. Sorry. I have no idea.

Hey, twinsies! The Red Menace (Zada)

Our decks look super similar, but Zada is definitely a single-optimum-build style so I'd call that good. Few suggestions I've found work great for me:

Potential cuts:

  • Boiling Blood: drawing cards is super important, but I found there were times when I definitely didn't want to have to attack with the team to do so. It being 3 mana sealed the deal.

  • Pyromancer's Goggles don't work like we want them to. You only get one copy of the spell even if it's targeting Zada, since the copy isn't cast. At best it's a 5-mana rock that can draw you an extra card or give one thing an additional few power. I cut it pretty early, as I never found it worth the cost unless I was copying a token-producing spell.

  • Thought Vessel's colorless mana might be too situational, since we reeeeeeally need red due to sheer # of spells we're casting. The max hand size clause is useful but I'm not sure it's worth the deck slot (if you're really worried, can slot in an Expedition Map to grab Reliquary Tower).

+1 for Zada! She's a crazy fun deck to play~

What is a good easy to play a bunch of 1/1 token creatures then cast otherworldly outburst on Zada, then kill them all to get a bunch of 3/2 eldrazi?

Holy crap, this deck is powerful. I do have to agree with midget_overlord because Seize the Day could be compltely devastating.

Oh wait, you can't untap your creatures with Seize the Day. Whoops.

After your first attack phase why can't you cast Seize the Day and target Zada, Hedron Grinder ? Copies would untap your army?

stick218 It would untap your army the first time, but after that they will stay tapped.

Considering the number of cantrips you have, a mass copy of one in conjunction with Psychosis Crawler will easily do 20+ damage to each opponent. Embrace the wheel, and grind it up for fuel.

Gamble still relatively cheap to include in here. Tutor up your skull clamp for super card draws.

Braid of Fire seems good in this style of deck along with Elemental Mastery, Goblin Warrens, Stranglehold, Brightstone Ritual. Hope this helped :)

Make Mischief at worst will replace all of your creatures with creaturs that deal damage at death, and at best just double your army. Same with Spawning Breath for extra colorless mana.

Mana Echoes does some really stupid turns in this deck, especially if you draw into Mizzix's Mastery.

Can't you just cast Seize the Day on your second main phase after attacking targetting Zada, Hedron Grinder copy and untap, swing again with your first extra combat then on your extra main cast Wrangle, Act of Treason,Besmirch,Harness by Force,Hijack,Kari Zev's Expertise,Mark of Mutiny,Threaten,Traitorous Blood,Unwilling Recruit,Lose Calm,Malevolent Whispers,Portent of Betrayal,Temporary Insanity,or Traitorous Instinct on Zada, Hedron Grinder then copy and untap all your creatures move to the next combat phase Ad Nauseam. Or you could Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker with Zealous Conscripts to infinite swing each combat. Or have Sword of Feast and Famine on a creature when it hit and combo off with cantrip copies on Zada into draw and more untap. Then if you're going with the infinite combat should probably put in Aggravated Assault as another infinite combat option, though with all the card draw you'll get it relatively quickly not even putting into consideration Past in Flames to cast those already cast untap spells again from the graveyard. Should be enough untap + combat phases to kill everyone. Though this seems like a lot of mana with a spliced Desperate Ritual onto Blazing Shoal you should get three red mana per creature if for some reason you weren't able to equip Sword of Feast and Famine. All of this relies on having the cards but cantrip draw shouldn't be a problem. Maybe this would work , haven't done the math, but it's a possibility.

So, a note about Pyromancer's Goggles. True, it doesn't work with spells that we want to be copied by Zada. HOWEVER, it does work with Battle Hymn, Goblin Rally, or any of the other spells that give us mana or tokens. So, yes, it doesn't work with our card draw or pump spells, but I'd say doubling tokens and mana is also very vital to the deck.

Love the deck! But it's missing one card I feel that needs to be here. And that's Inner Fire. After playtesting, there were plenty of times I had well over 15 or more cards in hand. I feel this card is a must in here.
