The Boros Legion: Striking Double, Striking True

Commander / EDH

Just a simple Boros aggro deck, with the usual equipment (Sub)theme. But this time we have something special going on - a little bit of double strike tribal going on. I'm sure Hearthfire Hobgoblin isn't a card you see hit the table in EDH very often. These double strikers are great at holding whatever swords, hammers, and other weapons you can throw at them (especially the red ones, since Aurelia gives them trample). Obvious upgrades, if you have them or have the money, are Sword of Feast and Famine, Sword of Fire and Ice, and Sword of Light and Shadow, as they are by far the most powerful equipment in the game, and SoFI helps with Boros's biggest weakness, card draw.

One of the best parts about this deck is that most Boros commanders can fit the role of Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice. Aurelia, the Warleader essentially turns double strikers into quadruple strikers, Tajic, Legion's Edge can protect from Blasphemous Acts of our opponents, or just win with our own, and Iroas, God of Victory makes sure our measly 1/1 and 2/2 double strikers are both difficult to block and impossible to kill on offense. Even Agrus Kos, Wojek Veteran works as a larger anthem, although if you want to run him, I suggest reworking the deck to add more red creatures over white ones. The reason I picked Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice over those, however, is that she is one of the cheaper options (6 mana for Aurelia, the Warleader means she won't be cast more than twice a game), as well as the ability to give a power buff and trample to your other creatures. She can also VERY easily win with Voltron damage if needed - she is a 4/5 Flying, Vigilance, Trample, Mentor when she buffs herself, and that's before equipment comes into play.

Things I want to work on for this deck:

  • This is the first equipment deck i've ever built, and I'm not sure if the Equipment count is too high or too low.

  • Similarly, not sure on number of Sunforger Targets I should have

  • The deck could probably use 1 more wrath. Austere Command seems like the best option, but I might want to opt for more damage based wraths to make Tajic, Legion's Edge stronger

Inspiration for the deck idea came from EDHREC's Guilds of Ravnica article, although I rebuilt from the ground up after wanting a heavy equipment theme to support Sram, Senior Edificer and Puresteel Paladin, among other things.
