Nowhere to Hidetsugu (Budget EDH)

Commander / EDH* Budget Combo Group Slug Mono-Red

Futuremonk

Maybeboard

How to play this deck:

Heartless Hidetsugu deals damage to each player, including you, equal to half of that player's life total, rounded down. Half is never enough to kill someone. But double half is. So this deck has plenty of cards that double damage dealt.

But wait! Doesn't that mean you'll lose too? Not necessarily. Because the damage is half rounded down, that means if you have an odd life total, you'll end up with 1 life left after tapping Hidetsugu. So would any opponent with an odd life total too. So there are several cards that let you ping yourself and/or opponents as well as gain life in order to try to doctor the even/odd life total distribution.

There is another trick, however: Lich's Mirror prevents you from losing the game and resets your life total to 20. So if everyone would lose, but you have your mirror in play, you win. If one or more opponents have an even life total but you have an odd one, they will be reduced to 1 and you will be at 20. You'll be pretty disadvantaged, however, so you better hope they don't have a good board state. Still, it might be worth the gamble or, at least, it is a dramatic way to lose.

Even better: Glacial Chasm will prevent all damage done to you as long as it is in play.
