Maybeboard

Mini Primer

The deck isnt built to gain ridiculous amounts of life; though it can,it's not the main goal. This deck relies on lifegain triggers to trigger Karlov of the Ghost Councils ability. Use Karlov and all the answers that come in the Orzhov colours to control the board and win in the most greasy ways possible.

The deck has a low average CMC and if you look at the curve it focuses on low drops (1-3). This is to try and get Karlov;as a 2 drop, going as fast as possible to either threaten or control the board.

Towards mid and late game if your opponents have not fallen to Karlov the life you've gained has lots of payouts for value like Greed, Netherborn Altar, and with enough Aetherflux Reservoir. If Karlov didn't end it early dig for a win con or just outlast the table with value from your lifegain.

What your looking for is low CMC lifegain trigger cards such as Soul Warden or Tablet of the Guilds, a piece of ramp, and both white and black mana.

Having both colours is crucial and I'll mulligan without them since Karlov is only a white and black mana.

There are lots of win cons in this deck. If you get out to a fast start Karlov of the Ghost Council himself can finish players off fast with commander damage and equipment like Whispersilk Cloak and Sword of Feast and Famine.

Another way is greasy but I mean this is uncle Karlov we're talking about. The alt-win-con cards for lifegain Test of Endurance & Felidar Sovereign are in here and can snag you wins.

Black has alot of ways to make lots of mana like Crypt Ghast and we have cards that can be used for simple lifegain or to execute the table in Debt to the Deathless

There is also the combo of Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond that with a trigger of any lifegain will result in an infinite combo draining the table and resulting in a win.

This deck can adapt to the game, win in a multitude of ways, and win fast or grind it out.

MTGO: Testing Witch of the Moors in place of Debt to the Deathless. Fits into curve nicely and this deck doesnt always make ridiculous mana and debt has been dead in hand before.
