Extort/lifegain deck.

Made to play against 3-4 friends who have been playing a lot longer then I have. Always loved the "Extort" ability so tried to make a deck centered around that.Basic idea of the deck is to keep everyone alive as long as possible to get the most out of the Extort while slowly building yourself a nice cushion of life. This is normally achieved by you having the threat of multiple board wipes, or the sudden execution of a player with Exsanguinate/Debt to the Deathless. Not a whole lot of super stompy stuff, although the Erebos/Athreos/Obzedat wombo can do some pretty nice damage.

This deck is largely meant to give people the impression to leave you alone until you're ready to go for the kill. A lot of my games have been won by draining people to sub 20 health followed by something like "In Garruks Wake" + swing with everything. You have some fairly tanky creatures and nice spells in here to help ensure that you are able to stave off a decent amount of aggro until you're ready to win.

The biggest downside I've found with this deck is twofold. If people have played against it once or twice and you've done well...you paint a huge target on your back. Good luck getting of the ground with your economy. My friends get a whiff of me trying anything and I get put into the dirt. The other part is that this deck falls really hard to super early aggression. If you haven't had the time to start whittling down life totals or to build up a decent board state you're in a bad place. Athreos probably isn't active as a creature, most of your creatures you DON'T want to trade, and if you do life totals are still so high that your opponent will have no qualms to keep your creatures in the graveyard for the 3 life cost of Athreos.

This deck isn't designed to be super competitive. It's designed to be a fun, themed deck that also keeps people honest. Someones getting to aggressive? Will of the council with Magister of Worth/Coercive Portal. Someone else board wipes you? Direct every Athreos trigger at the person who board wiped you. See if they're willing to pay the 9-21 life to keep your creatures dead. Someones making a spoopy big monster? Karlov/Pentarch Paladin etc. You get the idea.
