Tymaret, The Murder King

Commander / EDH BR (Rakdos)

towermouse

I used to have a Lyzolda, the Blood Witch deck that was very fun to play, but one of the problems with Lyzolda is that she's very fragile, and having to re-cast her for even five mana is a tremendous burden on the playability of the deck. On the surface, Tymaret looks like a much weaker version of Lyzolda because he offers no board control by himself and the only card he can "draw" is himself. His strengths lie in the fact that he is much more persistent than Lyzolda because he can circumvent the commander tax with his ability to recur himself from the graveyard. The ability to have a sacrifice outlet at all times makes Tymaret an interesting commander to build around. He works well enough as an engine card that converts excess creatures and mana into damage to players and as fuel for other engines as a creature that doesn't stay dead for very long. Also of note is that Tymaret is a Zombie, which has more relevant Tribal Implications in Red/Black than Lyzolda's creature types.
