BIG Angels

SPOILER: This is my first deck on tappedout. Sorry for bad english.

Since I started playing MTG my favorite color was white for most of the time. This is also due to the angels in this game: I love their art, their flavor, their symbolism. They can cleanse the battlefield of evil cards, protect yourself and your own cards from the opponents evil intent, get other creatures back to life or they're just so BIG that they can end games on their own. This in my opinion perfectly combines the symbolism with the game design.

So as our commander we're playing one of the biggest angels ever printed that represents these characteristics: Avacyn, Angel of Hope. Since she is our commander we want to savour her abilities the best way possible. So we're taking advantage of the fact that our permanents are indestructible. Luckily white is THE perfect color for that. We're playing mass removals (10) which will potentially only affect the opposing sides:- Wrath of God, Austere Command, Day of Judgment, Dusk/Dawn, Hour of Revelation, Rout, Elspeth, Disk & Magus of Disk and last but not least a potential Armageddon. Yes, I destroy all your lands while I keep mine. Taste it.

While mass & spot removals are our strength we have to make sure we also fight against the biggest disadvantages of white in EDH which are ramp and card draw.

So with respect to the casting cost of Avacyn we want to use stones that can potentially draw cards later on: Mind Stone, Commander's Sphere, Hedron Archive, Dreamstone Hedron etc. but also use other ramp since Avacyn is expensive.

For more card advantage/pseudo ramp we play Land Tax, Tithe, Weathered Wayfarer, Knight, Endless Horizons, Thaumatic Compass which synergizes with Emeria & Terrain Generator & Emeria Shepherd. I considered playing Admonition Angel in this regard (maybe board).

Since we'll have a hard time drawing cards we play cards like Mind's Eye, Top, Arch of Orazca. A potentially strong card draw engine for white which also commits us to other small creatures comes in form of Mentor of the Meek & skullclamp + some small creatures which we can either tutor for with Recruiter or Ranger, or generate with Heloid, Elspeth or get back with i.e. Reveillark and potentially other stuff if there are no better targets. Playing Humans as small creatures also synergizes well with other angels. Our "payoffs" therfore are Angel of Glory's Rise, Angelic Overseer, Bruna (also getting Humans). Especially Angel of Glory's Rise can generate a LOT of value later in the game with i.e. ETBs from Ranger Recruiter, Knight of the White Orchid, Mentor, Soul warden etc.

With all our mass removals we cannot only destroy potentially just the opponents cards when avacyn is out. We can also stall until we're ready to cast Avacyn. Therefore we also have to make sure that putting our own cards in the graveyard is as less painfull as possible. So we have recursion in form of Karmic Guide, Glory's Rise, Angel of Sanctions (Embalm), Angel of Serenity, Bruna, Twilight Sheperd, Dawn, Defy Death (for flavor), Emeria, Sky Ruin, Emeria Shepherd. Sun Titan in maybe board because neither angel nor human and sun titans targets could be better.Playing Hour of Revelation with Heliod/Reveillark/Serenity in play or creatures under endless sands can also be strong. Also note the end-step flicker ability on Angel of Condemnation.

What else? some good ol' spot removal with Swords to Plowshares & Path and Return to Dust. Just some of them because our mass removal should do some work. Lightning Greaves & Swiftboots because playing mass removal and getting Avacyn removed in response could turn out to be a blow-out when we have nothing else going on and also because haste. Also some annoying creatures which we can tutor for: Grand Abolisher & Thalia against control, Peacekeeper against fast decks, Mother of Runes for protection. Caged Sun for crazy stuff. I consider cutting Thalia because of our 32 non-creature spells but she fits with respect to skullclamp, the tutors etc.

Mikaeus, Luminarch Ascension, Heliod, Elspeth as Plan B.

I considered playing a more control-like version without the humans and even more removal (O-Ring, Ghostly Prison etc.). The big advantage for doing not so in my opinion is the card draw with mentor of the meek & skullklamp which can be tutored for (Enlightened Tutor). Mono white has a hard time with drawing cards. Also the recursion of our creatures can be great. We can recur Magus of the Disk, Peacekeeper & other stuff with etb-value. As mentioned we also have payoffs for playing smaller creatures.

Weakness:- kind of vulnerable to GY hate- still slow- no good mana curve
