In this 5-color build, a large and diverse land base is crafted for the purposes of facilitating various components of game-play, including combat, opponent interaction and win conditions. The majority of the spells in this deck prioritize getting lands onto our side of the battlefield as efficiently and effectively as possible, in addition to including various ways to trigger our General’s board-wipe ability when needed. With a battlefield that is sparsely populated by non-land permanents, we can achieve victory through lethal Commander damage, poison counters or land-driven combat. Since our General’s death trigger destroys all non-land permanents, our opponents must continually scramble to rebuild their board states. We will not. We will have planned for this inevitability by purposely limiting the number of non-land permanents slotted into the 99 of this deck, which otherwise would be destroyed by Child of Alara’s ability. This dynamic allows the versatile land base of this build to take over the game and be utilized in various ways as our win conditions.
