Primal Druid Discussion

Thanks for the suggestions lonesentinel and Podkomorka.
To make room for Ambuscade, Band Together, Lignify, Ram Through (which is strictly better than Pounce), and Unnatural Aggression, I decided to drop the Primal Druid as suggested, as well as the Viridian Emissary (which does basically the same thing).
Not feeling comfortable going down to 35 lands, I opted to only drop Khalni Garden, and both Forge of Heroes and Opal Palace (as I rarely need to recast my commander).

The landbase seems a little too simple for a 3-colour-deck. May I suggest du add at least Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse ? They aren't expensive and help a lot. Primal Druid and Wild-Field Scarecrow are fitting ramp/fixing options, and Scaretiller might be worth a look, as well.

You should play copies of each High Alert , Assault Formation and Belligerent Brontodon as backups for your commander. Wakestone Gargoyle might be very useful as well.

Two more interesting options are Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive and Mistford River Turtle to make your walls unblockable. Oh, and a way to give your creatures vigilance seems importan as well ( Always Watching is fine for that). Three more nifty cards for toughness-decks are Bident of Thassa , Angler Turtle and Profaner of the Dead .

Keep up the work, you definitely are on a good way.

You MUST have:

You can make room by taking the above tips and removing lands down to 35 as well as removing a random card that doesnt really fit the deck like Primal Druid and that should make room.

I’ve been having a long hard think about this deck list, I was considering a Ghave deck for my last deck but I opted for something else instead. This is my two cents..

This deck seems very heavily creature based, more than a third of it is creatures, so turn them into your ramp. Cards like; Cryptolith Rite or Citanul Hierophants will be far better for you than Farhaven Elf . Keep the creatures that you can sac to fetch lands because then they will trigger your death triggers, which gives you much more value . Other creatures that do this are Primal Druid

Veteran Explorer

Viridian Emissary

Burnished Hart

Dawntreader Elk

Perilous Forays this one would be really good as it turns all of your tokens into Sakura-Tribe Elder.

Since you’re playing around with counters I’d run Gyre Sage for some bigger ramp. You could take out the Llanowar Elves

I really like all the infinite sac combos but I think you’re running too many blood artist triggers. You could easily only run him and maybe one other with a similar effect. Some other cool effects you could run to replace some of those triggers could be Catacomb Sifter

Death's Presence awesome with your counters

An interesting list!

More Card advantage creatures: Soul of the Harvest , Harvester of Souls , Masked Admirers , Garruk's Horde , and Garruk's Packleader .

More sacrifice creatures: Ghoulcaller Gisa , Bontu the Glorified , Dimir House Guard , Izoni, Thousand-Eyed , Krav, the Unredeemed , and Razaketh, the Foulblooded .

More ramp creatures: Dawntreader Elk , Ondu Giant , Veteran Explorer , Primal Druid , Burnished Hart , and Wild-Field Scarecrow .

More recursion creatures: Cadaver Imp , Deadwood Treefolk , Den Protector , Dutiful Attendant , and Gravedigger .

I would look at lowering/smoothing out your curve, I have found it helps improve the functionality of a deck.

Hi, nice deck! By the way, not to be mean or anything, but this seems grabbed straight out from EDHREC, but you can easily fix it up. I enforce the comment from ZendikariWol (he helped me out with They See Me Diggin', They Hatin', my meren deck, sometime ago), in that you need to cut those things which don't really help you winning, but instead make you just "win more". I would consider trying to run more creatures, as you can recycle them any time you need them for their effects. Apart from the cards you already got suggested to add, which I suggest too, I'd also consider:

  • Ashnod's Altar is a really explosive must include card. Free sac outlet.
  • Skullwinder is super strong. can be used oplitically, but more importantly lets you buy back those noncreature cards that happen to have hit your graveyard. Plus, it's a 1/3 deathtouch.
  • Nyx Weaver is the same as the above, but can only be used once. But if it rebuys you the spell that makes you win the game, it suddenly becomes so powerful...
  • Mind Slash is a cool sac outlet, that lets you get rid of those spells you don't like, and slow your opponents down.
  • Avenger of Zendikar as it floods the board and gives you sacrifice targets. It also can pump up those token, but that's far less likely to happen. Still really solid.
  • Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder is a cool token generator if you ahve access to free sacrifice outlets, but it's a bit slow.
  • Harvester of Souls draws lots of cards. The potential of decking yourself is not that much of a problem, considering that you may draw a card, but are not obliged to.
  • From Beyond is a cool little token/mana generator, that can tutor up Smothering Abomination .
  • Izoni, Thousand-Eyed is both a sac outlet, card draw and token generator. Must have.
  • Pathbreaker Ibex and Overwhelming Stampede both make up for very powerful win conditions with all of the aforementioned token generation.
  • Woodfall Primus has recently gone down in price and it's a nice piece of removal that can be used twice if a sac outlet is provided.
  • Primal Druid is a cool dude that can chump-block and will ramp you like crazy if you start chain reanimating it. It's a worse Viridian Emissary , which is again a worse Dave .
