Maybeboard

This is a Pestilence/Pox Erebos build. I built this deck to be on a reasonable budget, but incredibly powerful. I want to keep threat perception low in a big multiplayer game, and in many playgroups I find that $200 cards like The Abyss really put a big target on your head.

The first move of the deck is to quickly deploy the commander Erebos, God of the Dead to keep opponents from gaining life, that should be a privilege reserved only for the deity of death. Like other Theros god commanders, Erebos's indestructible god status should keep him relatively safe from removal.

Step two is the same for almost all mono-black commander decks, find Cabal Coffers. I am relatively new to this card, and I was hesitant to purchase one because of its high price tag. I am so glad that I did. No other single card can power up a mono-black deck more than Cabal Coffers. The amount of mana this one land can create is absurd. And all one needs to take advantage of all this mana is a mana sink like our esteemed commander, or some other fun things.

Once Erebos, God of the Dead and Cabal Coffers are out, thing start to get sick. The enchantment Pestilence, one of my favorite pet cards, and its creature based carriers (Crypt Rats, Pestilence Demon, and Thrashing Wumpus) are a great way to murder all those pesky creatures that tend to gum up the board and to lower all those life totals down to a more easily manageable level. The bonus with Pestilence is that in this deck, its downside barely ever applies. It must be sacrificed if there are no creatures, but Erebos can not be killed by damage, so it sticks around. Also, with the Whip of Erebos, cards like Crypt Rats, Pestilence Demon, and Thrashing Wumpus all net a crazy amount of life gained! Pay one into Thrashing Wumpus it deals one damage to you, one to itself, one damage to opponents #1, #2, and #3, and one to all ten other creatures on the board, probably including Erebos, God of the Dead, dealing a grand total of fifteen damage! With lifelink from Whip of Erebos it can net 10, 15, even 30 life for the price of one mana each. With combos like this, this deck is capable of incidentally gaining hundreds of life.

Another great way to get everyone down with the sickness is Pox. Whether it's a Smallpox or Death Cloud, these effects can be backbreaking. Depending on how many busted lands the deck puts out, Pox can be minimally damaging to the deck while crippling others. Some with creature board state and importantly, cards in hand.

After Pestilence and Pox have decimated your opponents, time to swing in with your indestructible god, hit them with a giant demon, or fire off an "X" spell to take them out for good.

This is an incredibly fun mono-black deck to play and I urge you all to either get down with the sickness or Vaccinate Your Kids.

+1 if you like the deck, share your constructive criticism, and let me know if you have a deck at which you would like me to look, thanks!
