Tawnos, Urza's Apprentice is so versatile as a commander, he can work in LITERALLY EVERY artifact strategy you want as long as you have activated or triggered abilities on your artifacts which at least some should have by default. The name of the game is Artifact Combo/Value. The deck will win in standard artifact deck fashion, through generating infinite mana such as Paradox Engine + Tawnos, Urza's Apprentice with mana rocks, and many more you come to expect. Then we use them to win such as the classic Staff of Domination and Walking Ballista , but there's more we can do to win such as using the Paradox Engine + Tawnos, Urza's Apprentice combo with cards such as Codex Shredder , Goblin Fireslinger and Nettle Drone . Not to mention the brand new (as in Commander 2018 new) Retrofitter Foundry which acts as a brand new mana sink to generate infinite Servos and either swing with em outright with Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer , sac em with Blasting Station or mill everyone with Altar of the Brood .

However that is not all Tawnos can do. The other side of this deck (when we can't combo off) is having artifacts that we double up with Tawnos for double the value. The simple ones like any mana rock that can also draw you cards but even a card like Crystal Ball which wouldn't go in many decks is surprisingly helpful here as go from scry 2 for 1 mana to scry 4 with 3 mana (including red/blue from Tawnos). Another way to get quite the benefit from scrying is doubling the scrys on Cryptic Annelid . Scry 12 for 2 mana anyone? There's also doubling the clues with Tamiyo's Journal to be that much faster to searching not 1 but 2 cards with Tawnos. Specking of which, cards such as Planar Portal , Planar Bridge and Kuldotha Forgemaster are perfect with Tawnos because we double the search these artifacts do bringing us that much closer to winning the game.

For all of these reasons and more, Tawnos is now my new main commander deck (with Sydri going to the wayside). I don't look for competitiveness in my decks, but the fact is you can pimp out Tawnos to be that cEDH artifact deck you always wanted or just a casual value artifact deck, Tawnos can do it all because he is that VERSATILE, he works with EVERY ARTIFACT, he is straight up ALWAYS USEFUL!
