Introduction

Omnath, Locus of Rage, aka Om-nom-nath, is my favorite mythic rare of all time! The pure flavor on this pissed off elemental screams, "BUILD AN EDH DECK AROUND ME!" So, that's exactly what I did. This deck is my baby. I have never put as much love and care into any magic deck than I have this one. Before I break the deck down, I want to throw out a disclaimer:

Overview

Lore

To kick things off, I thought it would be a good idea to introduce some of the lore behind Omnath. There isn't a whole lot out there, but every card has a story, and Omnath's story is BAD. ASS.

Deep in wilds of the continent of Ondu, on top of a vast mesa, through a dense thicket of dangerous woodland, in the center of a murky marsh, inside a binding circle of seventy-seven candles, trapped in the invisible depths of an unfathomable pit, lies the Prison of a being known as Omnath. The stories tell of Omnath as a being made of pure mana, a manifestation of Zendikar's chaotic, primeval forces that would wreak massive destruction if it were released. Although skeptics wonder whether anything actually lurks there and whether such a thing is even possible, the devoted pilgrims who travel there claim that only their faithful recitation of the Ritual of Lights has contained Omnath and its terrible power. But Zendikar is changing.

The old bonds that have kept Zendikar dormant have been broken. The candles have been snuffed. The Prison of Omnath has been destroyed.

Wow! Now that we know a little bit of Omnath's story, let me show you how I harnessed his rage...

What to Expect from Omnath

As you can see, Omnath, Locus of Rage is a Gruul({R}{G}) commander. This is great because these colors have everything we need to make Omnath as lethal as possible. {G} is the best color for ramp, which is exactly what Omnath needs considering his high CMC (Converted Mana Cost) as well as his Landfall ability. Getting Landfall triggers is a must so we can produce as many 5/5 Elementals as possible. {R} is the best color for slinging damage. Omnath's second ability makes it so that whenever an elemental you control dies, you get to Lightning Bolt something or someone. As you will see later on in this primer, there are a ton of cards that support both of Omnath's abilities.

Omnath, unless he is heavily controlled, and I mean heavily controlled, will easily overwhelm your opponents. I have had games where I have gone from having a minimal board state to straight up winning, all in the same turn. This deck can go from 0-100mph, and you can win without your opponents even know what hit them. Let's go over some pros and cons.

Pros/Cons

• Opponents will casts board wipes, which will usually cost them most, if not all, of their life.
• When opponents do cast board wipes, you can re-establish a board state on your next turn.
• You don't need to swing with your army of elementals to kill your enemies.
• You can win with having little to no board state.
• Your opponents will waste kill spells on Omnath only to have you cast him on your next turn...for the fifth time in a row.

• This deck is heavily reliant on its commander.
• You only like to win on turn 3 or 4.
• You are searching and shuffling your library every turn.
• You don't enjoy playing a deck with a ton of flavor.
• You only like to win the game the same way. Every. Single. Game.
