Narset, Jeskai Teacher (Budget Multiplayer)

Commander / EDH

Ys_

Lore

Narset's unquenchable thirst for knowledge reached a turning point when Ojutai majestuously named here Master. Enlightened as she is, she now seeks the company of other students to teach them the Ways and share with them the Jeskai Ascendency.

The Monk's way is one of material poverty which is why this deck aims to be budget. Yet, the path to enlightenment is paved by milestones of spiritual perks, enriching one's mind and soul. This list also contains a few cards I have been able to open in boosters or win during FNMs. A Monk does not dwell in solitude and favors the company of his peers, plunging deep into the mutual benefits of shared meditation.

In this deck, contrary to many other more traditional Elder Dragon decks, Narset won't stand on her own, fighting against the world. She once met Shu Yun and it took them both but a second to understand the complementarity of their styles. Another day, on the brink of exhaustation, Narset received the visit of a future ally, soulfire grandmaster , who embraced the Ways and decided to help Narset overcome her physical boundaries. Now, the trio train amongst Exemplars to achieve perfection. Through one of her spiritual journeys, Narset crossed the multiverse and ended up on Kaladesh, where she assumed a spiritual form. Attracted by a turmoil she knew all too well, she met Young Chandra   and decided to tag along, trying to share with the youth her own past experiences.

Narset has, at last, decided to mingle with the world by opening her own school. She strives towards multiplayer contests, in which she shines by dictating the pace, disrupting stalemates and favorizing one or another of her opponents.

Deck plan and strategies

The whole point of this deck is to revel in multiplayer environments where you can aim at building your own board before dictating the game with strong utility spells. This deck is to remain budget, so that people can enjoy playing fun decks without needing to invest a full month salary into deckbuilding.

I also included some Narset shenanigans (momentum and multiple-turns cards) to let people glimpse into the utter despair competitive Narset decks can spark.

The whole point of the deck is to let your opponents build their boards while remaining somehow undercover. Once Narset hits the board, then you start teaching them the Ways.

The Way of despair, is when you clean out their board with Austere Command, Catastrophe , Descend upon the Sinful, Tragic Arrogance etc. Obviously, you want to protect your own Teacher beforehand, because it would not be fun otherwise.

The Way of Politics, is when you use your utility spells to play with your opponents' decks. Use this in a political way, acquiring board threats or simply asking your temporary allies what they would not leave into the hands of the petty student who decided to grow big too fast.

Smash them to ashes by teaching them the Way of Fire, making the best use of your Boros instants.

Finally, show them the Ways of the Tactician, by using your many enchantments to overcome their defenses while creating your own impenetrable fortress.

The Way of Patience is the ultimate teaching, which can lead one towards Exile or Condamnation. The Ways are absolute, none may outgrow their steady pace.

Help appreciated

Being pretty new to the game in itself, I lack the knowledge of many of the cards which could be added into this deck in order to make it both more consistent and more fun. Let it be reminded that this deck aimes to be budget. There are lots of nice planeswalkers, for instance, who would love to make it through and join Narset's party, yet their services are too expensive.

I tend to favor board-wide cards which can affect all people. While this kind of gameplay tends to irritate opponents and mark you as a lightning rod, you also affect others' table and feed your sympathy counters. Teach them how politics work and impassably watch them quabble over the remains youleft them to pick.

Last but not least, I also wanted to craft a Narset deck to show the world that she is not the exclusive, arrogant, game controling monster people fear. Let me clean out her reputation by suggesting improvements. Together we can improve the Ways, and the Ways will improve us.

Thank you for reading, any upvote is appreciated, any help will ne much loved.
