(And I Feel Fine...)

This deck came out of a very simple desire: to burninate the countryside with a ton of dragons. Originally, I had tried to just build a dragon subtheme into my Riku of Two Reflections deck (deck:reflection-ramp). This was insufficient, and so I decided to build a separate deck with permanent access to Atarka, World Render and her double-strike-granting greatness.

As one might expect of a fairly creature-heavy green/red deck, there's a decent amount of ramp here. In particular, I get to take advantage of creatures that ramp into more creatures (like Shaman of Forgotten Ways and Somberwald Sage ) or that take advantage of creatures already on the table (like Whisperer of the Wilds ). I considered dragon-cheapening creatures like Dragonlord's Servant and Dragonspeaker Shaman , but at the end of the day, I didn't want to go too heavily into creatures that do nothing but help me cast more creatures.

So this deck basically has three modes: Ramp into dragons, cast dragons, and reload hand when I run out of dragons. There are some exceptions to that structure in the form of support spells like Dragon Tempest and Crucible of Fire , but in general I want to just be crashing in with huge numbers of dragons. Stick Atarka as soon as possible for that all-important double strike support. Sarkhan's Triumph , See the Unwritten , and the draw suite help me find Utvara Hellkite , which is a powerful way to close out the game just by massing even more dragons.

I have a few pieces of spot removal (and Molten Disaster ), but not too many, since I'm counting on my dragons to outclass anything else they face. That's also why I'm not running board wipes; I'd have trouble rebuilding my own board after dropping one, so I'd have a good chance of hindering myself more than anyone else.

Running only two colors lets me fit in a few utility lands, though I didn't find too many that I particularly wanted. The big things here that I'm excited to get to use are Haven of the Spirit Dragon and Crucible of the Spirit Dragon .

There are a few cards that I'm thinking of throwing in as well. Descendants' Path might be a good way to carry some momentum forward, or filter out less-desirable cards, without going down on cards in hand. Greater Good would provide me with a great solution to the board wipe problem. Ugin, the Spirit Dragon would be a rather amenable form of board wipe that can get rid of smaller creatures while leaving my giant dragons untouched.
