Maybeboard

This is a lifegain, mini-stax Oloro, Ageless Ascetic deck with a smattering of group-slug for funsies. The goal of the deck is to punish your opponent for every choice they make, while passively draining the life from them and giving it to yourself, getting card draw, or building up your creatures until the board state is such that you can combo-off. Combo's are everywhere in this deck. Everything in the deck interacts with something else. Its beautiful synergy.

The most fun part of the deck -- the group slug! These cards are a constant source of damage for your opponents. This is essential for keeping your opponents down, while you're setting up your board state for your combo plays!

1) Twilight Prophet

2) Sanguine Bond/Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose/Vizkopa Guildmage/Enduring Tenacity

3) Cliffhaven Vampire/Marauding Blight-Priest/Starscape Cleric

4) Queza, Augur of Agonies

Let the blood flow! If your opponents want to play magic, tax their actions -- especially card draw!

1) Bloodchief Ascension

2) Kambal, Consul of Allocation

3) Gixian Puppeteer

4) Exquisite Blood/Bloodthirsty Conqueror

5) Sheoldred, the Apocalypse

These are what make playing Oloro, Ageless Ascetic fun. Many of them grant +1/+1 counters whenever you gain life to create massive beat-sticks. Others create tokens which can be used as annoying pieces on the board. Or even provide you with a win-con in the case of Sorin, Grim Nemesis. We also have card draw, creature removal, and ramping. Tons of fun in this section.

1) Amalia Benavides Aguirre

2) Archangel of Thune

3) Crested Sunmare

4) Elenda's Hierophant

5) Exemplar of Light

6) Fiendish Panda

7) Heliod, Sun-Crowned

8) Karlov of the Ghost Council

9) Qala, Ajani's Pridemate

10) Witch of the Moors

11) Aetherflux Reservoir

12) Angelic Accord

13) Sorin, Grim Nemesis

Card advantage often wins games so we need to ensure we're drawing cards in adequate numbers to get the cards we need. We obviously have Oloro, Ageless Ascetic if he's outside of the command zone (situational), but we need more than that. A great place to start is Alhammarret's Archive to synergize with Oloro's abilities. We also need to make sure we don't discard our extra cards, so we need Reliquary Tower and Thought Vessel.

1) Phyrexian Arena

2) Rhystic Study

3) Drogskol Reaver

4) Archivist of Oghma

5) Twilight Prophet

6) Trouble in Pairs

7) Sphinx of the Revelation

8) Sphinx's Revelation

9) The Gaffer

10) The One Ring

11) Sorin, Grim Nemesis

12) Exemplar of Light

Updates Add

Wow, its been awhile. I have been updating this deck regularly over the years, maintaining the original mini-stax and group-slug themes of the deck and it has been doing pretty well. However, it has become a deck that is become more and more unfocused, resulting in some convoluted gameplay. Fast forward to this Fall -- Duskmourn was released and I saw the potential of what Valgavoth, Harrower of Soulsfoil could do in that group-slug role and I decided a change to this deck needed to happen. I just didn't need two group-slug decks. So I brought Oloro back to basics, his healing mechanic. All of the other stuff on his game text is great, but I really wanted to focus on the 2 lifegain "Eminence". As such, cards that keyed off of lifegain needed to go into the deck and that is what you'll be seeing with this update. Lots of payoffs for gaining life, but still keeping to the Sangromancy theme of the original deck. I have taken nearly every efficient lifegain combo piece I could (i.e. Sanguine Bond and Exquisite Blood) to make sure the deck doesn't pillow fort to infinity and has a way to eventually win. I think this brings the focus of the deck back, while still having a fun theme of draining life from my opponents. I am always willing to listen to comments and suggestions, so shoot them my way if you wish.

Note: I purposely do not use tutors in this deck, since it combo's out. I have plenty of redundancy with the 2 card lifegain combos, so I don't want to add to the salt at my playgroup's table. That is also why I don't run counters in this type of deck.

Note 2: I will get around to editing the primer one of these days. The Holidays and all that eating my time up. :(
