Marauding Blight-Priest

Creature — Vampire Cleric

Whenever you gain life, each opponent loses 1 life.

I'll make a few suggestions here, trying to keep in mind your budget considerations.

Suggestions for reanimator:

Palace Siege - either lifegain or reanimator, depending on what you need when you play it.

Ravos, Soultender

Debtors' Knell - high mana value, but returns a creature from ANY graveyard to the battlefield directly.

Suggestions for lifegain:

Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose - Highly recommend, as he goes infinite with Exquisite Blood.

Marauding Blight-Priest - Like Vito, also goes infinite with Exquisite Blood.

Tymna the Weaver - Lifegain and card draw.

Ajani's Welcome - cheap, consistent lifegain for playing creatures.

Ivory Tower - cheap, consistent lifegain each turn for having cards in hand.

Also, random one that you may want to consider: Pyre of Heroes. It'll let you sacrifice one of your creatures to find another with mana value equal to the sacrificed creature's plus 1.

There will be two Encore "sacrifice at the beginning of the next end step" triggers that will be on the stack. You will resolve them one at a time and get to choose the order since you control both abilities. Below I will lay out the results of each option assuming that you have 3 opponents.

If you sacrifice the Zulaport Cutthroats first you will get 9 Zulaport triggers. After each Zulaport trigger you will have 3 triggers for your opponents to lose 1 life. When the Marauding Blight-Priests die there will be no triggers. Net result is 9 gained for you and 36 lost for each opponent.

If you sacrifice the Marauding Blight-Priests first you will get 9 Zulaport triggers. No Marauding Blight-Priest will be on the battlefield to cause life loss as you resolve the triggers and gain life. Then when the Zulaport Cutthroats die you will get 9 Zulaport triggers. Net result is 18 gained and 18 lost.

There could be an argument for either ordering depending on game conditions. Though most of the time the 36 life loss seems like it would be preferable to me.

I use Araumi of the Dead Tide to encore Marauding Blight-Priest and Zulaport Cutthroat (after untapping Araumi), and come to the end of the turn all the tokens get sacrificed. When the Zulaport Cutthroats see all the creatures dying they will trigger life gain for each one. Will the dying Marauding Blight-Priests still be alive to see that life gain and trigger more life loss, or will they already be gone?

TIA!

You probably want to add a ton of 1 drops to this, a few you might try out are Falkenrath Gorger, Falkenrath Pit Fighter, and Indulgent Aristocrat. There are also options like Vampire of the Dire Moon and Knight of the Ebon Legion that are probably better but cost more. I think running less than 8 spells that are good turn 1 plays is going to put you behind every game, Modern is a pretty aggressive format in most areas.

People do sometimes run 4 drops in Modern, and rarely higher MV stuff, but 6 drops are a lot of mana, and half the opponent's life might not matter enough if you play it late (half of 10 is a lot smaller of an effect than half of 20), so I feel like you shouldn't run more than x1 Blood Tribute, if any.

If you're very 'all in' on aggro, I feel like Curse of Stalked Prey will feel more playable than Curse of Shaken Faith, those +1/+1 counters add up quickly, while later game people are less likely to double spell. I could see Shaken Faith showing up in a sideboard, but it seems like a strange card in the main deck.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but Balustrade Spy seems like a terrible card in here, do you have some synergies with self-mill, or are you hopping to force your opponent to draw lands maybe? I think there are better cards than this. If you have enough life gain effects you could try either/or Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose or Marauding Blight-Priest, either is pretty unpleasant if you've got a bunch of lifelink vampires (Gifted Aetherborn and Vampire Cutthroat are 2 more that are solid, though Vito can give your board Lifelink by himself fwiw).

Cliffhaven Vampire and Marauding Blight-Priest are a couple of additional options to pop off with Exquisite Blood. And Hall of Heliod's Generosity can help you get Exquisite Blood back from your graveyard, if need be. Food for thought.

You might like these: Oloro, Ageless Ascetic, Marauding Blight-Priest, Cliffhaven Vampire, Epicure of Blood, Wound Reflection, Bolas's Citadel, Pull from Tomorrow, Skirge Familiar, Jace's Archivist, Dream Salvage

Also just a heads up that Necropotence doesn't draw you cards, it exiles them then puts them into your hand from exile.

EquivocalVision, while I certainly appreciate the input, as I point out in the deck's description, I already have Exquisite Blood comboing off with Cliffhaven Vampire, Marauding Blight-Priest, and Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, each of which have a lower casting cost than Sanguine Bond. But again, thank you for the input. Thinking about it, I may start sideboarding a copy in case anyone in my usual play group starts running effects that specifically prevent creature abilities from triggering.
