Marauding Blight-Priest Discussion

I would also recommend Marauding Blight-Priest , but I would like to recommend taking out Kalastria Healer and Vermin Gorger . How about switching the Gorger to another gorger: Savage Gorger . With all the pings, Ol' Savage is almost guaranteed a counter each turn. Vermin Gorger just doesn't have good hits beside Kalastria Healer ; which isn't great. Regarding the Healer, I would either swap it for Dusk Legion Zealot or; If you are counting to go into the late-game, Bloodrite Invoker could be a serious threat, pummeling for three with drain while still synergizing with the theme of the deck. If not, Dusk Legion Zealot could be a good one-shot card draw while still holding a chump. With stall-y decks like this, Withercrown doesn't seem great. Go with Cast Down instead. On that note, I feel that Paralyze is self-deprecating in this deck. With the extra mana they have, they can just pay the tax needed for Paralyze , and swing in. If you want to keep their baddies at bay, I would recommend Typhoid Rats (in the main board), a Oldie but a Goodie. The Rats do a great job on defense, and most-often trade up. (Kill a creature with a greater mana value or alternate cost.) Vampire Envoy doesn't do much in a pillow-forty deck like this, i would take it out for Sign in Blood .

Misc. Recommendation: Mesmeric Fiend / Toll of the Invasion - Both snatch your opponents best cards and leave a body, which can be a Mirror-Breaker. (Although Mesmeric Fiend is a bit risky)

Love the idea, fan of drain meccanics too +1.

I know you made this deck with spare cards, but if you ever wanted to look for an upgrade here's my thoughts:

Firstly, you nave a high curve, so you could afford to waste time with tapped lands. Bojuka Bog is always nice to have in the mainboard. Or some Barren Moor given the deck's draw rate.

Marauding Blight-Priest is generally (Hello Lightning Bolt ) a straight up better Epicure of Blood . Less survivable but lets you waste less time you could use to play curses later.

(My opinion) I really don't like Quag Sickness for its cmc. I think you could use instead 3 Cast Down for some instant speed scenario, but if you want to keep the enchantment theme for the joy of Gary I'd find something better, like Death's Approach .

Looking at the sideboard, same goes for Unholy Indenture . Unfortunately, that awsome Seb McKinnon art is terribly wasted. Cards like Demonic Vigor do the same job.

As I said, I know you are using spare cards, but if you like my ideas maybe you could gather some of these among tour friends. That's one of pauper's advantages after all. Have fun!

Very cool deck idea. Does anything from from MH2 or Forgotten Realms make the cut? Nykthos Paragon , Trelasarra, Moon Dancer and Cleric Class seem strong. Attended Healer from ZNR could be great here too.

Have you thought about using the drain effects like Dina, Soul Steeper or Marauding Blight-Priest or do you prefer the Pridemate effects for aggro and Tayam Synergy?

I like the list. It has real potential.

I'm not a fan of doomed and null priest unless they are cheating out big creatures - the only big cleric I can think of is Mikaeus, the Unhallowed . Resurrecting multiple other clerics can be done in easier, less disruptable ways.

Many of the most powerful sideboard cards (mainboardable in many metas) are clerics, and that means that with 75 cards including sideboard, something that can really kick butt in a metagame is out there.

The option to ressurect Children of Korlis , Containment Priest , Ethersworn Canonist , Fiend Hunter , Grand Abolisher , Leonin Arbiter , Auriok Champion , Leonin Relic-Warder , Remorseful Cleric , Sanctifier en-Vec , Sin Collector - there are too many great clerics for this not to become something. Even stuff like Orzhov Pontiff and True Believer has seen sideboard play in the kind of creature-led deck it would be.

You have access to all the tools from soul sisters, with Soul Warden also getting Marauding Blight-Priest as another piece. Vizier of Remedies threatens a combo line. Efficient 1 drops means that tools like Orzhov Charm , Ranger-Captain of Eos and Proclamation of Rebirth look a lot better. Order of Whiteclay and oddities like Hanweir Militia Captain  Flip it offer more options than you'd expect, and it only takes one good interaction with them to turn them into powerhouse engines.

All of that before looking at w/b getting the best removal in the game means that some variant of this list will make a dent in a major tournament, once someone figures it out.

To stay more in black, I would consider some sort of vampire sacrifice, counters, and/or lifedrain strategy. Your black cards that could work well in such a deck would be Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim , Embodiment of Agonies , Kambal, Consul of Allocation , Knight of the Ebon Legion , Mortician Beetle , Souls of the Faultless , Castigate , Disentomb , Gerrard's Verdict , Revival / Revenge , Despark , and Grim Return . Most of the other black cards are at least playable as well. The only two I'd cut in most circumstances are Underworld Dreams and In Garruk's Wake . The former needs more build-around while the latter just costs too much to be a consistent boardwipe.

Cards I'd look at adding for such a build might be Gatekeeper of Malakir , Anowon, the Ruin Sage , Sangromancer , Dictate of Erebos , Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet , Victim of Night , Indulgent Aristocrat , Pawn of Ulamog , Grim Haruspex , Silversmote Ghoul , Yahenni, Undying Partisan , Vampire Nighthawk , Vampire of the Dire Moon , Malakir Cullblade , Blood Artist , Urge to Feed , Feast of Blood , Heliod, Sun-Crowned , Archangel of Thune , Cruel Celebrant , Drana's Emissary , Indulging Patrician , Malakir Bloodwitch , Marauding Blight-Priest , Sanctum Seeker , Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose , and Pious Evangel  Flip.

As a side note, to go infinite with Sanguine Bond , Vizkopa Guildmage , or Vito, the card you need is actually Exquisite Blood which is unfortunately quite expensive.

DemonDragonJ Reducing confusion probably wasn't the only reason it was changed, but I'm sure it factored into the decision.

I could understand a creature version of Exquisite Blood , but I don't expect it to show up regularly. I count eight cards with a variant of the SB effect: Cliffhaven Vampire , Defiant Bloodlord , Dina, Soul Steeper , Epicure of Blood , Marauding Blight-Priest , Sanguine Bond , Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose , and Vizkopa Guildmage . A new EB goes infinite with all of these, with incredible redundancy.

How would you stat a creature version out? What would you expect its mana value and P/T to be?

Sorin_Markov_1947 thank you so much for your suggestions! I'm new here (obviously) so I mislabeled the format. This is an arena deck, so there aren't actually legality problems.

I may have also mis-labeled the strategy a bit, I still don't really speak the lingo. It really does hinge around Piper of the Swarm and/or Sanitarium Skeleton , Ayara, First of Locthwain , Lampad of Death's Vigil .

In an ideal turn, I make a rat with the Piper, this takes one life via Ayara. I then sacrifice it with the Lampad, which also takes one life. If I can't keep a Piper out, I have the Skeleton, and Liliana is a cheaper way to regenerate a skeleton each turn. Bastion of Remembrance doubles damage from the sacrifice with the Lampad, and Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose doubles everything. With Sanctum of Stone Fangs and Dogged Pursuit a turn with only 1 rat creation and sacrifice has the potential to do 10 damage.

That's the plan, at least.

I have trouble keeping Liliana and the piper out, so I end up defaulting to the Skeleton's ability a lot.

An earlier version of this used Marauding Blight-Priest and Duskwielder , but I found the Piper/Ayara/Lampad combo got watered down.

I've thought about Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Gloom Sower as additions, but they're very expensive.

I don't quite see how Castle Locthwain and Faceless Haven fit in here. Can you say more there?
