I love White/Black and White/Red. I'll sometimes dabble in other colors, but that is generally due to budget concerns.
Anyway, I've been "playing" Magic for a very long time. Bought my first pack of cards in Urza's Saga and pulled an Opal Archangel as my first rare. Played through the Urza block with friends, when I fell out of the game for a bit. Came back full force for the Onslaught block. And let me tell you: I loved it. The reason? Tribal. It all had to do with tribal interactions between creatures. It created so much synergy and potential in every deck. I very much miss those days.
During that time, I created a very successful Standard deck based off a Scrye Magazine article. Refined it more to my liking and it did EXTREMELY well competitively. The deck was a W/R bird soldier self-burn deck based on the Soulcatchers' Aerie mechanic (one of my favorite cards). Self burn your own white weenie birds and watch all of your other cheap birds grow unbelievably fast. Games were much slower back then and when I could pull turn 4-5 wins, it was tough for my opponent. But alas, the block rotated out and I started to lose interest, then sold my collection off (as well with all my other CCG games like Star Wars and DBZ) when I moved.
So I came back at the start of the Theros block, my old CCG juices started flowing again and I've been going ever since. :)
With that being said, I primarily play EDH casually. But my competitive tendencies still remain, so I try to make my decks as good as possible, within a reasonable budget.
Alas, I spent probably an unreasonable amount of time here on TappedOut building decks. Tweaking and researching here and on EDHREC, to refine the theme and power of the deck ideas I have. I'll never complain about advice and/or upvotes, so if you have either, please comment in the appropriate place.
