Ok, so I was dumb and didnt just order the cards for this deck before FNM and ended up playing an incomplete version. The first round I won 2-0 against a home brew wolves deck. I activated pretty perfectly, swinging in both times with Spellheart Chimera + Armed / Dangerous + Titan's Strength for MASSIVE damage. The second round I saw monoblack devotion. If any one card killed me this event, it was Desecration Demon. Not having Rapid Hybridization in my sideboard meant i had to resort to straight burn to kill it (not easy) or bounce to delay it. I wont the first game because all I saw was Mutavault and Pack Rat which my Chandra's Phoenix flew right over. Then I played what I'm pretty sure was a netdecked RG monsters deck, and my lack of target removal killed me. I couldnt take care of anything, especially Mistcutter Hydra. I was just outclassed, especially being short cards. The last round I played was against Orhzov control, where again Desecration Demon kicked my ass. A lot of these problems will probably be fixed by having all the right cards when I play next, but if anyone has any other suggestions I would appreciate them!

Removed Karametra's Favor when I discovered that I couldn't attach it to Voyaging Satyr to make her tap for mana as well as her ability at the same time. Added in two Naturalize because there's a lot of enchantments to worry about in standard format. If that doesn't work out I'll add in another Time to Feed and another Lay of the Land.

This deck just gonna back on FNM & GP because my friend just stop playing it and it back into my hands (I build it for him) sooo now i make some changes:

Add:

  • 4x Boros Charmfoil is like ,,My middle finger salute you",

  • 3x Browbeat i think just better card than Brimstone Volley (synergy with Brimstone work only if you have 4+ Mana in pool)

Because of that now i m gonna clean comments.

Refined Walls

After much playtesting with one of my all-time favorite decks I've boiled down the deck quite a bit, and really like the turn out. It's not a Tier 1 deck by all means, but it's rediculous amounts of fun and makes every game either extremely exciting, or just steamroll's the opponent. I just began testing the Into the Wilds after some skeptical speculation, but it's working quite nicely so far.

The only major changes that need to be made is replacing every single dual land with a scryland, and getting a couple Sphinx's revalation, but these are well beyond my budget at the moment. Also some sideboard modification.

Went undefeated till the last match. Round 1 mono black devotion homebrew Game 1 we both mul to 6 and he takes over early game but without an answer to whip i regain life and stablize adephage for the win. Game 2 he has me on the ropes after dropping grey merchant followed by next turn nyxthos spilling his hand and a second murchant i block and dont golgari charm to regen like a fool next turn i play the whip and gain enough life off my hard cast adephage to survive one more swing he makes a bad play and alpha strikes when keeping up one blocker would win him the game i whip medomai for lethal 2/0 Round 2 mono red aggro Game one we both mul to 6 he takes over pummeling me with a few 2/2s i have pack rat on the board play a whip and swing to gain 1 life im at 7 he swings with phoenix mutivault and another 2/1 takes me to 1 life he has 1 card in hand i think its all over if he has a shock magma jet lightning strike or any burn spell, he passes turn. I whip adephage swing with it and rat gain 8 he draws another mutivault and swings because hes thinks lifelink only works when my creature is attacking (the players next to us confirm lifelink all the time) i kill his creature and gain 3. Next turn whip obzedat and swing in for rediculous. He concedes. Game two i have the best hand turn 2 caryatid turn 3 caryatid commune with the gods t4 whip t5 whip medomai t6 adephage t7 another adephage the nut draw really. commune was perfect. 4/0 Round 3 something jund scavenge Game 1 We both play out similar openings with caryatids and trolls but after i whip and he fails to answer it the lifegain puts me over the top he is able to destroy my creatures but im able to keep pumping them out and the haste does him in. Game two i get two caryatids out quick and start hard casting fatties he puts them in my gy and he fills his board with ravagers of the wilds and that big scavenge beetle and varols but i have putrefy from my sideboard to take out his regenerators. Once again the whip takes the cake bringing me out kalonian hydra making my troll get pretty big next turn i am victorious. 6/0 Round 4 (my nightmare esper control) Game 1 i am able to play threat after threat after threat and he has answers for all of them i never see the whip elspeth for the win Game 2 lotleth troll whittles him down i whip he dspheres i top deck whip and finish him off with more threats than he can asnwer Game 3 i start chipping away at his lifetotal while waiting for the right time to whip finally get the whip out and im hoping he dspheres it as i hold in my hand answers for that all day 2 golgari charms and an abrupt decay. I have a kalonian hydra on the board and whip a second one he quickens supreme verdict (not enough mana to golgari charm). He removes my whip from the game with revoke existence i fail to dig out another one he plays aetherling and we go to rounds. I could have essentially fogged with my golgari charms after he pumped his aetherling for a draw but i completely space it he kills me on the last turn he won 2/1 Final 7/2 for 5th place over all promo banisher priest and a few boosters wee. Did better than i thought. The deck i took had slight differences than the one on here ill change this one to match later.

Angels Fall

kingmsr, 11 years ago

Ok ty for comments, I've puted 2 Angel of Serenity in the deck, one mainboard replacing Ashen Rider and the other one sideboard replacing Fated Return (since I never really use it). I've decided since it has similar abilities as those of Ashen Rider I would use one mainboard, especially since it helps save my creatures from Scavenging Ooze (which destroys me) and it can deal with annoying tokens sending them to Narnia (like those of selesnya from Voice of Resurgence and Advent of the Wurm). In case of Lotleth Troll, I realy like him, mainly with Nighthowler and Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord. But this deck is focused on hard cast some big creatures or bring them from the grave and turn the game around your side. I use some cards to bring the lands fast, like Satyr Wayfinder and Grisly Salvage, and the mana generators (Sylvan Caryatid and Axebane Guardian), to bring my win condition to game, and use Desecration Demon, Shadowborn Demon, Nemesis of Mortals and Whip of Erebos to hold on the game against aggro or make pressure against controls.

FNM Update (3/21/14)

MattTheNinja, 11 years ago

Went 3-1 yesterday and got 3rd place! The deck worked really well, one game I used Aspect of Hydra on a Sylvan Primordial to make it a 17/19, then used Xenagos, God of Revels to give it +17/+17 (total P/T 34/36) and used Blood from Flesh / Blood to deal 34 dmg directly to my opponent. The only real problem I had was against a Rw burn deck because he killed off my mana producers and just burned me/pinged with Young Pyromancer tokens to death

Round 1: 2-1 vs White Wienies

Round 2: 2-0 vs Rock Midrange

Round 3: 0-2 vs Rw Burn

Round 4: 2-0 vs Bant Superfriends Control

Lets get this thing started

FNM

replay55, 11 years ago

Placed eighth, went 3-1.

First match was Boros burn, which is my worst matchup possible. Went 0-2, which kind of sucked. First round was rather close, but a planeswalker swarm eventually took me out.

Second match was against Azorius heroic. The guy was relatively inexperienced, and I managed to pull a 2-0.

Third match was Orzhov control. He won the first one through an Elspeth and Obzedat, but I managed to pull through by siding in Slaughter Games and Revoke Existence. Merciless Eviction was a power player in the matchup, taking out Heliod, a Whip of Erebos, and some Clerics. Went 2-1

Forgot about what the last matchup was, but I won, placing me at eighth.

Burn is a terrifying matchup, and I wish there were some ways to counteract it.

Took out two lands and 3x Eidolon of Countless Battles and put in one more each Hopeful Eidolon and Favored Hoplite and 3x Martial Glory for combat tricks. Should be interesting. It's very fast.

Took out Tromokratis and 2 Simic Charms for 3 Cyclonic Rifts. Also replaced a Mountain with a 4th Temple of Abandon.

Final update for a while.

With my latest change to my deck, I think I am done (maybe). The deck was pretty good to start with but there is plenty of synergy now. The last card that I will look to put in (if it is truly in the next set Journey into Nyx) is the G/W Ajani. These are just rumors but since Selesnya is the last guild without a planeswalker, I am hopeful.

Thanks so much guys! You've helped and continue to make the deck run as smoothly as it does. I never would have that the little Nevuchadnezzar deck I made out of leftover cards would have become one of my more interesting and overall fun to play decks!

1-2 at FNM last night (3/21/14)

mattbl, 11 years ago

First match - R/G Gruul - Loss 1-2 - This was your typical R/G netdeck. First game he dropped three Burning-Tree Emissaryon his 2nd turn, so I was pretty much screwed. I held him off and got some damage in until turn six when he swung for lethal. Second game I was able to get my Hero of Leina Towerpumped up and ended up beating him with Aqueous Form. Third game was close. I had him down pretty low but he combo'd a Bloodrushed Ghor-Clan Rampagerand Domri Radeto have his online Nylea, God of the Hunt fight my pumped up Setessan Oathsworn, removing my only real threat. He then used Clan Defianceto kill my last blocker and swing for lethal. If I could have survived, I had him in a turn, maybe two. Thassa, God of the Seawas key here, giving me unblockability when I had no Aqueous Form.

Second match - R/W 1-drop - Loss 0-2 - This guy's deck really exposed my weakness. He told me before we started that his deck was a pauper deck, so I was thinking easy win. Far from it, he 1-dropped me to death and killed me in four turns in the first game with a very pumped Akroan Skyguard, and I literally didn't draw a single creature. Second game was the same, I only was able to get one creature out, which he killed immediately with Lightning Strike. He beat me turn five in this one, with the same Akroan Skyguardgetting pumped with cards like Madcap Skillsand Titan's Strength. He admitted after that he had never drawn so well and normally he can't kill nearly as fast. I was thinking about it, though, and even if I had gotten my most ideal draws I don't think I could have contended with the speed of his deck. I mulliganed the first game, and twice the second game hoping for creatures but to no avail. I made sure I separated and thoroughly shuffled my deck before playing and after my mulligans, but with only 14 creatures it can be tough.

Third match - R/G/B Jund - Win 2-1 - I never saw the black aspect of his deck beyond Swamps. I saw mostly Ash Zealot, Experiment One, and Scavenging Ooze, as well as Ghor-Clan Rampagera couple times. In the first game I was rolling, I had him at six life and I was at 18, but he Bloodrushed a Ghor-Clan Rampageron his already pumped Scavenging Oozewhen I wasn't expecting it and killed my pumped Hero of Leina Tower. Big mistake on my part (I need to be more aware of combat tricks like these) because he ended up winning this game after I couldn't get another creature out and pumped in time. Again, I'm feeling the sting of not having a lot of creatures in this deck, and only four Alpha Authorityfor protection (I sideboarded in Crypsisfor the next two games). The next two games were relatively easy as I hit my draws and was able to take him down fairly quickly. Second game was over on turn six, third took another turn or two but I had my Setessan Oathswornenchanted with Aqueous Formand Alpha Authority, as well as pumped by a couple key instant spells.

Overall I was disappointed. The first round could have been won if things had gone a bit differently, which makes me feel good... after the first game I thought it would go terribly but this made me realize that my deck has the potential to contend with $500 netdecks. However, like I said, I really realized how ill-equipped I am to deal with very fast decks. I'm thinking I need to look at either adding some more creatures to the sideboard, or adding in some fast instants like Giant Growthor Ranger's Guileto help my creatures versus early threats.

Last Nights FNM

Went 3-1-0 last night. PRetty happy overall.

First Game - Not sure how I lost this to be honest. He was new and bad at the game, he was play a poor mans version of mono red. I don't know if it was my draws or something, but somehow he won two games in a row. I lost 0-2

Second Game - This deck was a mono-black deck. It didn't have all of the goodies it needed though, was a work in progress. I won 2-0

Third Game - Played against another red deck, but this one was splashing white. He was using Satyr Firedancer. It was pretty good, but my hexproof got in the way of his decks main focus. I won 2-1

Fourth Game - Played against a pretty loaded azorius control deck. But I was surprisingly able to beat him down with a Witchstalker bestowed with chromantore. The next game was the same thing, but he Celestial Flared my witchstalker, but then i bestowed a Chromanticore onto another Chromanticore. Really fun game, glad I got to face a control deck. I won 2-0
