I stumbled upon an interaction for Mutate that shouldn't be underestimated: Mutate spells target. So they trigger any heroic ability, and they also trigger Gargos, Vicious Watcher.

A kind of cute interaction is Anthousa, Setessan Hero. Animating for example a Cascading Cataracts and then mutating something onto it seems cool.

More fitting heroics in Otrimi's colours include:

Agent of the Fates

Battlefield Thaumaturge

Centaur Battlemaster

Hero of Leina Tower (and some more heroics that get multiple counters)

Mindreaver

Triton Fortune Hunter

Other colours of mutate commanders grant access to other useful heroics.

Hero of Leina Tower and Unraveling Mummy looked quite promising too I thought. They were my first choices so far.

Eldrazi, Elves Joraga Warcaller and add in Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury be kind of funny you could also look for things like this Hero of Leina Tower. Oracle of Nectars combo like this Felidar Sovereign

Swaggy, let me clarify: I meant that energy did the whole extra type of resource, while experience counters did the whole threshold value thing - the more EXP you have, the better the effect. 7 out of your 8 cards do either one of those.

The only card that does not fit the bill is Shifty Diplomat, which does something none of the two WOTC mechanics ever did.

There surely must be another way to do this - "accumulate and spend" and "accumulate and hold". Not only are these already explored by energy and experience respectively, but they are mutually exclusive. You will never play Rowdy Raider and Punish the traitors, even though they share a color and a mechanic. Ability words are more of a flag - they signal that cards with the same ability are good together. For example, heroic on Hero of Leina Tower and Fabled Hero do different things, but both point in the same direction - cast spells on the dudes to get a bonus.

In my view, if you do a brand new mechanic, it is good to explore new design space for that. At this moment, I ahve no idea what would be something Conquest could explore, but I think Diplomat is the correct way to go.

That is why I focused on Imbue - it is a state-based effect, a rarity in today's Magic, because it is complex to oversee, that interacts with how much mana you have in your pool, an even rarer thing. Sure, it is complex, but hey it was a ten minute attempt that could be refined into something workable. At the very least it fits the most important requirement: "You are going to design a brand-new keyword mechanic or ability word."

TLDR: Explore new possibilities in challenges that require you to do so.

P.S. All of these are meant to be 100% constructive criticism.

Oh yeah my brother has a beast deck, I will post it in here and you can see some good mana search cards and good creatures to add. Plus if you are building your deck around Nissa, Nature's Artisan I would add maybe a few small creatures that you can ramp and build off of. I think that Hero of Leina Tower would be great too. Just maybe add a Giant Growth, Overrun, and Explore. All suggestions not trying to force my opinion and I never want to pressure anyone.

I am a bit confused with this deck, it seems to be a deck based around gaining life dependent on a large creature, but the only one I see is Fabled Hero, but as a three drop in modern you might not ever get him. I would suggest a Favored Hoplite, it seems to be better for this, and even without double-strike, it will heal you the same. Lagonna-Band Trailblazer is also a fun choice. You probably should drop the playset of Fabled Hero for a set of these:

Heliod's Pilgrim can be dropped, you might as well have an enchantment at that spot, and Mesa Enchantress is too expensive, so instead get enchantments that cycle themselves, like Angelic Gift, Chosen by Heliod, and Shielding Plax to name a few. You can also just have a bunch of low cost enchantments, like the following:

Ethereal Armor

Hyena Umbra

Rancor

Spider Umbra

Spirit Link

Daybreak Coronet

The deck would be much more like a heroic bogle deck than lifegain, but it would make the deck better, I will go make one real quick and drop a link here, k?

This is the heroic deck I've been looking for. Well laid out, and very good. My only suggestions are to maybe A) Add Satyr Hoplite B) Change up your use of green so green in this deck isn't just for pump spells. (Either add some green creatures or just swap out your green pump spells for red or white ones) Here are a few green creatures with heroic. The green heroic creatures are not to good compared to the red and white ones :(

Hero of Leina Tower

Setessan Oathsworn

Staunch-Hearted Warrior

Centaur Battlemaster

and Anthousa, Setessan Hero
