Release the Hydra!

Most people have been hating on the current commanders with the escape function. Honestly Polukranos, Unchained is unique for a small reference to stone hydra and added with its escape mechanic to return as a 12/12 can be useful. Our focus is to make sure Polukranos survives and is capable of dealing lethal blows to creatures it fights.

Defensive Armor

Polukanos Unchained is a 0/0 that becomes a 6/6 when it enters the battlefield. The counters can be easily removed by cards such as Solemnity, Hex Parasite, and Vampire Hexmage to name a few. Easily anyone who wants kill a hydra with counters will try and hamper our escape. Using cards Vigor, Magebane Armor, Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves to protect Polukanos from targeted damage.

Tribal and Dredge Synergy

There is a likelihood that tribal Hydra is possible with Polukanos Unchained. Using Gargos, Vicious Watcher ability to reduce hydra creature cost by four. We can reduce our six mana cost escape plan to two. This begs the question of utilizing a semi tribal theme. Zombie Master will allow Polukanos to attack players with swamps without dealing with blockers.

For our escape plan from the underworld dredge and some self milling is going to be our best option in order to get that 12/12 hydra. Golgari Grave-Troll, Life from the Loam, and Golgari Thug are to be named a few enablers for this tactic.

There is more possibilities for this commander and trying to keep it alive is going to be the interesting part.
