How to Become #1 Threat

Commander / EDH*

Kobra

DISCLAIMER: This is going to be quite a read, but it's well worth it!

The overall goal of this deck is to spam out game-breaking cards through Jhoira of the Ghitu ability or other effects. Cards like the Eldrazi titans, any land/board wipes, and ridiculous cards like Omniscience. The deck by itself is pretty control heavy, but at the same time mana rocks and cute combos are ensured.

This deck plays quite a bit of mana rocks so Jhoira of the Ghitu can come down as early as possible and even use her ability in the same turn. The goal is to be able to suspend game-breaking cards as early as possible. To make that happen, mana rocks are a necessity. Not to mention, if for some reason Jhoira of the Ghitu can't join the party, at least you will have quite a bit of mana to hard cast said "game-breaking" cards.

Another big piece of the deck is the amount of board wipes the deck runs. I'm not just talking "Destroy all creatures" I'm talking "DESTROY EVERYTHING!!". You suspend them early on to ensure your opponent will run out of gas and you benefit while suspending your big bois to come down after the board is destroyed. Your opponent has to play around the impending disaster while you benefit. Let's say you suspend Decree of Annihilation and also suspend (Any stupidly large creature), everything will be gone while leaving you and your opponent in top-deck mode and you have a massive body on a clear board. Seems good. Some odd board wipes in this deck include Wildfire and Destructive Force. These have some synergy with other cards in the deck while also allowing you to keep your mana rocks. Reason why we are playing playing Wildfire instead of Burning of Xinye is because Burning of Xinye destroys lands while Wildfire sacrifices lands. That little bit of synergy in our deck makes more of an impact than you think.

Who doesn't like taking extra turns? While we're at it, we can just take some extra turns for a "win-more" effect. This is helpful after we DESTROY EVERYTHING!! to help reset or smash with your big boi after coming down from Jhoira of the Ghitu effect. Also, Time Stretch is nice because with a big boi we can smash for two turns or just keep doing crazy stuff like the deck always does.

Another key piece is draw. For us to be able to find our board wipes, big bois, or extra-turn effects we need to have them in hand. The deck utilizes some of the best draw power available, while cutting very situational or just plain awful draw spells. Dig Through Time and Treasure Cruise benefit highly from the play style of the deck from being able to Delve things away or suspend them through Jhoira of the Ghitu ability.

A couple cute things this deck can do:

It That Betrays + Wildfire or All Is Dust or Destructive Force. Destroys a lot of things and leaves you with a lotta mana.

Strionic Resonator + Jhoira of the Ghitu You can copy the "At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a time counter~" effect to remove 2 time counters on your big spell coming down.

Strionic Resonator + Any cast effects from Eldrazi (coming down from Jhoira of the Ghitu suspend) or COPYING THE FRIGGIN' ANNIHILATOR TRIGGER!!!

Jhoira of the Ghitu + suspending Dreamstone Hedron or Gilded Lotus for early mana.

I'm sure I left a couple things out from the deck, but you get the jist' of it. There also could be a couple more cute things the deck can do but there's a lot going on in this deck. Any feedback would be awesome as there is ALWAYS room for improvement. Have fun doing crazy shenanigans!!

Took Out:

-- Strionic Resonator -- This card really didn't do much. This deck is often fighting for the 2 drop slot anyway for counterspells, and even in games it didn't help very much. Sometimes it will fire off with Eldrazi, but more times it was often dead.

  • Beacon of Tomorrows -- Got too clunky if Jhoira wasn't on board. The card itself was usually dead in my hand and better cards can be used to replace it.

  • Temporal Mastery -- See Beacon of Tomorrows.

  • Time Warp -- See Beacon of Tomorrows.

  • Mind Stone -- Mediocre mana rock. Like I said with Strionic Resonator, I would rather have mana open turn 2 for counterspells than playing this.

  • Swiftfoot Boots -- See Mind Stone.
