Sideboard

A test-deck for The Gitrog Monster. It just seems like such a fun card to play with. This deck revolves around sacrificing lands to draw cards and get value from them. Here are some fun tricks in the deck

1: Natural Affinity + Necroplasm = Armageddon. Necroplasm's ability to destroy each creature with converted mana cost equal to the number of +1/+1 counters on it will destroy all lands if you cast Natural Affinity in response to the trigger. Since the lands do not have a converted mana cost, they all die to Necroplasm. Works really well if you have Titania, Protecter of Argoth in play, because then you get an army of Elementals. Then throw in cards like Splendid Reclamation to get your lands back or Golgari Charm to regenerate your land creatures and your board will return to normal while everything else is in the graveyard.

2: Dryad Arbor + Meren of Clan Nel Toth + The Gitrog Monster effectively removes the sacrifice effect that The Gitrog Monster places at the beginning of the turn by returning the land to play at the end since it is also a creature. Then when you get more experience counters you can return other creatures to play instead of the Dryad Arbor for more value!

3: The Dredge cards are really cool in this deck. Dakmor Salvage is a land that you can get back from The Gitrog Monster's sacrifice effect. Life from the Loam can get you back the lands that you sacrifice and then throw more lands back into the graveyard getting you even more lands and so on. Necroplasm also has Dredge if needed.

How to Win

Its a bit bizzarre, but when it works, it works really well. First, you need the following creatures in play: Lotus Cobra + Sylvan Safekeeper . Along with the creatures, you also need Splendid Reclamation in your hand, as well as one of the following payoff cards: The Gitrog Monster, Retreat to Hagra, or Titania, Protector of Argoth. What you do here is sacrifice all of your lands, one at a time, to Sylvan Safekeeper giving all of your creatures shroud. If you have The Gitrog Monster, you will draw a ton of cards to draw into your other payoff cards. If you have Titania, Protector of Argoth, you will get a ton of creature tokens. Remember to float all of your mana from your lands before doing this. Then with the leftover mana, you play Splendid Reclamation to get all of your lands back, triggering Lotus Cobra to get even more mana back to play all of the cards you drew from The Gitrog Monster and draining your opponent's life total for a ton with Retreat to Hagra. My favorite thing to do with all of that mana is to cast a giant Torment of Hailfire
