The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Cast

Commander / EDH* Exalted GWU (Bant) Theme/Gimmick Vorthos

Strategy

The premise of this deck is a pretty straightforward exalted deck, (just limited due to my flavor restrictions), with a bunch of equipment because, well, there's a bunch of equipment in Zelda. It's got the usuals for a 3 color commander, i.e. Chromatic Lantern , Lightning Greaves, etc. to ramp and fix into Rafiq of the Many and start swinging in with him or someone else for massive double strike damage, which gets even better when you throw on equipment and such.

Most of the creatures here have some sort of ability that makes them useful other than attacking, like tapping for mana and such, since we'll only be attacking with one at a time. Stuff like Cryptolith Rite and Sigil of Valor help to give the rest of the creatures some use as well. Other than that, there's pretty much just a bunch of exalted and equipment synergy in cards like Battlegrace Angel , Stonehewer Giant, and Stoic Angel. Throw in some utility cards and removal and you've got yourself an interactive, fun deck!

Flavor

The whole theme of this deck, in case you can't tell from the title, is the Legend of Zelda, the critically acclaimed and, more relevantly, me-acclaimed fantasy adventure video game series. Get ready for some epic Zelda flavor.

Below is a list of each card in the deck and how they relate to Zelda. They come from various games in the series and the connections' strength varies, as some of the cards I put in there primarily due to power level and figured out the relation to Zelda later. However, there are several instances with the card interactions and abilities and such that are flavorful beyond the surface level. Here are some of my favorite flavor wins:

  • Imprisoned in the Moon: So many things fit with this card and the final battle with Majora in Majora's Mask. The moon, where you actually fight Majora; the mindless, mysterious, otherworldly monster; the big tentacles; even the effect of the card, in trapping the opponent's creature into a moon, or, with a bit of imagination, a mask, is on point with Majora lore.

  • Sovereigns of Lost Alara : These are the three Golden Goddesses, creators of Hyrule and the Triforce. Not only does the art depict 3 heavenly beings, the effect of the card within context of this deck is wonderfully flavorful. I only actually have two enchantments that you would want to attach to your own creatures in this deck: Shield of the Oversoul and Steel of the Godhead , the Triforce of Courage and the Triforce of Wisdom in this deck, respectively. The flavor of that interaction, that the creature representing the Golden Goddesses can go search and bestow upon their chosen heroes the Triforce is exceptionally satisfying. Ahhhh...

  • Stonehewer Giant : Here's another interaction that I'm way too proud of: This big guy is Biggoron. He's a Giant who can give your hero a great piece of equipment. The fact that you are paying mana and tapping him to do it makes it feel even a bit like a trading quest, as it takes some time and resources in order to finally get your sword. It feels great when you get to search up Sword of Kaldra and throw it on your creature, as it is the Biggoron's Sword of this deck. Trust me, it's great. You've got to appreciate the little things.

  • Blade of Selves : It's the Four Sword. It's a sword that makes copies of your creature. What more do I need to say?
