Akrasan Squire

Creature — Human Soldier

Exalted (Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, that creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.)

How is the equipment subtheme working for you? I've seen some Isshin lists with equipment, and maybe a package of Exalted enablers like Akrasan Squire. Have you played this deck in paper much yet, or is this still mostly conceptual? Mostly wanted to get an idea of what you feel are some of the inconsistencies that you're encountering, and what is the general direction you enjoy most for the deck.

I personally was tempted by higher CMC heavy hitting creatures like Archon of Cruelty for my Isshin list, but have gradually phased them out for the most part. I found that most of them were kinda slow without additional Haste support from stuff beyond Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots. If you are encountering this, I'd recommend adding Bitter Reunion, Fervor, and/or Ogre Battledriver.

Totally understandable Althuran. Isshin can do a lot with attack triggers, I think I should have reframed my question a bit more specifically. Are you looking to:

From my own experience playing Isshin, I think he's strongest when you focus on one of the avenues above, and sprinkle in bits of the other avenues for support, especially given what you tend to encounter in your playgroup or local meta.

Phyrexian Arena being cheaper is definitely nice. I will say though that Arena is at its best when played around turn 2-3 if you can pull it off. In later game it feels kinda clunky to wait a whole turn to draw a card, especially if you are in a position where you need answers more immediately. Tome of Legends does have the need to pay and tap to draw, but the trade off is that you can then be selective with when you draw.

All draw options have drawbacks that make them more or less reliable, as well as faster/slower. I guess it depends which potential drawbacks you are most willing to trade off for in your own play experience.

Cool to see an Exalted Voltron Isshin build. I don't see those as often as some of the go-wide strats. It looks like you have 2 copies of Akrasan Squire in your mainboard.

Although they aren't Samurai, Knight of Glory and Knight of Infamy can help round out your Exalted creatures.

I know they also aren't Samurai, but there are a handful of creatures with Myriad that work well with Isshin. Because of how Myriad and Exalted both work, you can technically have a Myriad-creature attacking solo. The Myriad tokens are created after the Declare Attackers step, so they don't count as declared attackers.

Some cool Myriad creatures:

Lastly, Dolmen Gate and Reconnaissance can help round out your board protection for attacks.

Alright, I'm here to rectify the meiny of follies within this decklist.

Unto what I would ablate:

Shalai, Voice of Plenty is an illegal inclusion due to the colour identity rules, for she has Green therewithin.

Akrasan Squire does close to naught in all scenarios. It adds one power to the board, yet offers nothing else. An eath exclusion.

Seeing as that you commander provides indestructible, Terminus is a wrath that shall hit your board as well. Try Catastrophe, as the Armageddon tells me that you don't mind foredoing all lands.

Riot Control is inutile. I shan't say more. The very same is of Faerie Guidemother, for it just does nothing.

Sorcery-speed removal is just awful, and therefrom I would remove Revoke Existence.

Scaretiller is awful ramp, even when playing mono-White.

Wherefore do you run White Knight? 'Tis a potent card, but doesn't do much for this strategy.

Now, Eternal Dragon is a favourite of mine, yet it just finds a basic plains. Other than that, 'tis a seven-mana 5/5. Don't run this.

Acolyte's Reward is egregious, thence I would rede for its removal.

Why is Anafenza here? She is meant to go infinite, yet there isn't much to combo with here. Just murder it.

Suspicious Bookcase is rather perfidious, avaunt it should be snuffed for something else.

Wellway! Quite the multitude there, whereupon I have some recommendations.

Boon Reflection was just reprinted and thence it has quite the low price, for it does the same as Rhox Faithmender. Another is Alhammarret's Archive.

This is a slow deck, so try Ghostly Prison.

If you wish for other efficient life gain, Soul Warden and Soul's Attendant do much at a cheap cost.

Heliod's Intervention is fantastic removal and a splendid mana-sync, withal Abolish is an underrated favourite of mine.

Lyra Dawnbringer anthems much of your deck whiles Baneslayer Angel is a scarily efficient flyer.

Unto ramp:

Given the high mana curve, you'll need a lot of this. Marble Diamond, Mind Stone, and Arcane Signet are each two-mana, which is when you want to ramp, and do their job well. Solemn Simulacrum is okay but not great, yet Thran Dynamo does a most meritorious effect for an eight-mana commander.

Lastly, though not ramp, Generous Gift is universal and efficient removal as an instant.

That shall be all from me. Fare thee well.

Hello Bramdal thank you for the suggestions.

I think Thraben Inspector is slow for this deck. Thalia, Guardian of Thraben probably in sideboard. Charming Prince, he can bounce Thalia's Lieutenant and soldier and knight protecting a noble why not ! haha I like the idea but I prefer focus on humans/soldiers/knights in priority. Militia Bugler could be nice to retrieve some cards but I probably go for Benalish Marshal. Basri's Lieutenant seems nice but not in the mainboard.

Concerning the cards you would cut :

Akrasan Squire and Fiendslayer Paladin will be in first line. Martial Coup will follow but not yet decided the substitution. Launch the Fleet is the signature card of this deck :) Wing Shards don't know yet. Knight Exemplar will replace Fiendslayer Paladin

a few suggestions:
Thraben Inspector,
Thalia, Guardian of Thraben,
Charming Prince,
Militia Bugler,
Benalish Marshal,
Basri's Lieutenant(4 Mana might be to high, but he is really nice with Thalia's Lieutenant.

cards i would consider to cut:
Wing Shards,
Launch the Fleet,
Martial Coup,
Akrasan Squire,
Fiendslayer Paladin (exept you know, your opponents gonna play red or black, otherwise this would be better in a sideboard, maybe together with Mirran Crusader),
Knight Exemplar (I think your knight count is to low),

Hello Rorolith thanks for passing by :)

You're right about exalted and battle cry. Akrasan Squire are here to power up Champion of the Parish to put pressure on turn two. I have to try to replace Akrasan Squire by Dauntless Bodyguard to see if it's better. I already thought about Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip but don't know if it can fit on this deck. Sure he can be transformed as a planeswalker but will he survive ? At least Dauntless Bodyguard can save me a Champion of the Parish.

About Grand Abolisher it was in a previous version of the deck but as you stated it's a slower cast and if I have to choose I prefer receive a Lightning Bolt to an offensive card because it's the spirit for this deck haha. But I agree with you it's definitely a sideboard card.

Akrasan Squire and the mechanic Battlecry don't work very well together. I think also that Exalted isn't the best idea for your deck considering you probably want to cover the board very quickly and knock your opponent to 0. Maybe Dauntless Bodyguard, Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip, or Grand Abolisher? Grand Abolisher is a significantly slower cast than Dauntless Bodyguard and Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip but could possibly save you in some situations, Its probably a sideboard card though.
