Stoic Angel Discussion

DemonDragonJ on How do Stoic Angel and ...

If a player controls a Stoic Angel and then activates Dovin Baan's third ability, how many permanents and what type of permanents will their opponents be able to untap during their untap steps?

In your maybeboard I like:

Giltspire Avenger Exalted and can deter attackers, but 3 colors and $1+ makes sense to be a cut.

I would make room for Battlegrace Angel, has exalted and gives your Exalted Attacker lifelink. $0.56!

Cathedral of War was the land I was thinking about Friday, but it's $1.50! Can't include.

Sovereigns of Lost Alara is very powerful, tutors the exact aura you need for any situation, and probably makes them unblockable or lifelink in the process. With every strike it becomes lethal. $5 hard to account for but might be a way.

Rhox Charger is exalted and he has built in Trample, 3/3 Exalted for CMC4 isn't too bad for $0.25.

Stoic Angel would be an auto-include for me, especially with all of your guys making creatures come into play tapped. Swing with your Vigilance (Flying) Angel alone, and avoid any type of counter-strike from opponents. No going to find a better card for $0.50.

Grunn, the Lonely King is another option, he's CMC6 for 5/5 no Trample, but when he attacks, Stack his triggered ability, and then layer on all the Exalted, after the exalted get added, he doubles himself. If you have the kicker 3 a 10/10 for 9 is still ok. Needs a Rancor but he's pretty reasonable, especially with all the built in evasion effects.

Suprised you don't have Knotvine Paladin, he gets +1 from the Exalted ability, and stacks a second +1 for each "untapped" creature, which they all are, so doubles the Exalted when he attacks, another good finisher like Grunn, the Lonely King when evasion is available.

Cold-Eyed Selkie can draw some cards, since your not using blue much you don't have as much draw, since he's still works. Also if you can Exalted and Islandwalk someone, can repopulate your hand.

Swords to Plowshares is the best removal in Budget for $1.

Open the Armory is another Swiftfoot Boots, very important.

Farseek is good, can pull that Island for you.

Sigil of Valor is the exalted equipment because it doubles the Exalted effects!.

Behemoth Sledge is another (slightly worse) Loxodon Warhammer.

Simic Signet/Azorius Signet might be good for getting the as well.

Sigil of the Nayan Gods not bad, because if it useless, it has Cycling.

I'll continue further review later, off the top of my head,

Reciprocate generally bad, once it's hit your life it's too late, someone (situational) it will be good, but most creatures you NEED to remove aren't attacking, and if they are, the specifically have to attack you, and you have to choose to let them hit your life. Condemn is better because it can attack anyone, and doesn't have to connect to your life specifically.

Skarrg Goliath is too high CMC to be useful, and his bloodlust is also too high CMC.

More to come later, I used to have a Daxos of Meletis deck, so I have some ideas, but I utilized the quite a bit more. Fun Selesnya build. +1.

Thanks! Aggro and Control are definitely things that you don't see together too often.

Noetic Scales could be good against decks that dump their hands, and like you said, my walls would be safe. Stoic Angel and Derevi might be good for some more control, I'll have to think about them.

Aluren would be good, my walls have low cmc and come in powerful. I also wouldn't have to worry about completely running out of resources because of Arcades. Vizier of the Menagerie could help, I'll think about it.

I'm not really sure about Door of Destinies, Kindred Discovery, and Descendants' Path. With door I'm worried about boosting so much that I still die to my board wipes, I feel like I have enough card draw without Kindred Discovery, I also worry about burying spells I might need with Descendants' Path.

Archangel of Strife is a good idea, with "peace" mode my walls essentially get +3/+3. Angelic Skirmisher is good too; I can enable vigilance if I don't have it, or give my walls some other advantages.

Thanks for the suggestions! If you have any idea what cuts I could make to include from my maybe board then go ahead and suggest them.

Your deck looks pretty good for aggro-control.

Noetic Scales should be really strong since your creatures won't get bounced due to their low power and your card draw, while you totally disrupt opponents. Stoic Angel and Derevi, Empyrial Tactician can help you pursue a stax strategy.

Aluren is really powerful since most of your walls have low CMC, whereas you aren't worried about low CMC creatures your opponents might have.

Vizier of the Menagerie could help you cycle through your deck really fast.

Some tribal cards like Door of Destinies, Kindred Discovery, and Descendants' Path could be helpful.

Maybe Archangel of Strife and Angelic Skirmisher could be useful.

Kezvin on Bant Manlands

If you're focusing on manlands, consider Mutavault, Faerie Conclave, Inkmoth Nexus, and Celestial Colonnade. Also, if manlands are your main source of damage, you can ensure a board advantage with Stoic Angel.

You'll probably want to cut your land searchers like Cultivate and Sylvan Scrying. Replace them and Llanowar Elves with Birds of Paradise and Noble Hierarch for mana-fixing mana dorks. The price tag on hierarch is high though but it's so so nice, but if you don't want to spend that much, Arbor Elf is a good alternative. Collected Company isn't entirely necessary either since it misses a vast majority of your creatures. Your creature base is kind of all over too, so I would recommend narrowing the scope on a few that you really really like to see and get playsets for consistency. And branch out a bit from the new set. For one, Windborn Muse is just a better Baird, Steward of Argive in my opinion, but I don't really know if a taxing effect is really beneficial for your overall gameplan. I would start by narrowing your scope and ask yourself what direction you want to take this and find cards that synergize well with each other, because I'm not entirely sure what to suggest. I'm assuming you want to turn it into a Angel tribal deck, but there are a good number of creatures that seem a bit unnecessary to benefit an Angel tribe. Geist of Saint Traft might be worth taking a look at, and Stoic Angel has a really nice taxing effect that it's immune to since it has vigilance and synergizes with Exalted from Noble Hierarch really well. I hope this helps out, I'm sorry if anything came across harshly I promise I am trying to help and provide constructive advice.
