Maybeboard

So I feel like Rebbec could be pretty powerful as a protection artifact deck but I wanted to do something silly, so this deck is exclusively cards that were PRINTED at uncommon, (and basic snow lands). This is not common tech, this is not rare or mythic tech, no this is Uncommon Tech! I think it still works pretty well.

There are several cards that have been shifted up or down over time and I've tried to match the printings, but Tapped Out still lists a few as common or rare. Even so, the version of the card in my deck is an uncommon.

Generally the plan is to get as many different CMC artifacts and Rebbec onto the board as possible. Our partner, Esior, gives us access to good counter spells, and gives some protection to the commanders at a cheap price. In order to complete the circle of protection you'd also like to have a counter spell or removal in your hand for pesky effects or board wipes. Better yet imprint it on Isochron Scepter to repeatedly do it. You can win by smashing face with protected creatures, get in with infect damage and kill that way, or infect and proliferate into a win with Throne of Geth and Contagion Clasp.

You don't necessarily need protection from every CMC in order to be well protected from your opponents, but you may need protection from specific CMCs to effectively get the damage you want in which can create some puzzles on attacking. The curve is not what I'd normally shoot for (exponential decay :) ) but is more focused on making it as likely as possible that you have access to artifact CMCs of what I consider the likely opponents creatures and targeting spells/abilities CMCs that you'd want to be protected from. That is, as best as I could.

This probably ends up being a lower powered deck, but for a deck with the card restrictions I think it's pretty decent. It's perhaps slightly deficient in the card draw department and is weak against very wide boards, and decks that don't rely on combat-damage based strategies (burn, combo, etc.). I did not include any board wipes, but the ability to attack with impunity in many circumstances should allow you to deal with a problem opponent quickly enough.

One thing I have not decided upon is whether mass vigilance is a requirement for success or not. The only uncommon artifact that I'm aware of that gives that is an interesting card, Angel's Trumpet. When you're ready to start swinging, there is probably little downside to it, but it could give your opponents a key to unlock the protection puzzle if you have to swing in and lose creatures. Ultimately, you can probably afford to lose a few points of life if you have to hold back for a turn or two so it's in. Since it's only one card, it's probably only showing up every 3 or 4 games, but it's fun when it does. I think you can still get by without it. Brave the Sands, is in the maybe board because as an enchantment, it's harder to protect within this shell, though obviously less likely to get hit than a creature, it's a maybe for now. I did not consider creatures that grant vigilance.

Finally, since the deck is ~80% colorless, I've deliberately skewed the mana base toward white. Rebbec is incredibly important and you need to have at least one plains on the board ASAP to get him out. Later in the game when you're more likely to need to cast a counter, you'll have plenty of blue.
