I moved from Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle soon after Hamza was spoiled. It was a fun way to do some of the Myr Retriever loops, and added green for better ramp and card draw. He costs more, but unlike Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle we don't NEED our commander for most of our combos. He does play a part in one, but he's mostly there as a great ramp source that allows us to get our cards down faster and cheaply.

Not only is he good for this kind of deck, but he's an interesting deck to play. He's almost a reverse Animar, Soul of Elements which is really intersting. We get to play bulk cards like Pollenbright Druid / Swarm Shambler . Along with that, it can actually compete fairly well. We have solid combos that are fairly easy to assemble but until then we have a large board presence that can swing out if need be. Basically we can swap from combo to just beatdown at times we deem necessary.

I ended up taking a break from the deck a few months ago as I didn’t think it was performing how I really wanted it to. Now I’m back and want to see what I can do to make this fast and consistent. I changed up the combos a bit and from trading cards over the last few months, I’ve lost a piece or two, but I feel this list is more consistent and faster at the same time.

In this list I’m running 3 main combos, with one that just happens to be in the deck so it’s mentioned. They’re rated by how often we use them/go for them. For example, our Combo 1 is the most used, Combo 2 is second most used, etc..

Our first combo is easy to assemble as almost all pieces are creatures we can tutor for, and pieces like Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit fits really well into the deck already.

Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit / Vizier of Remedies / Melira, Sylvok Outcast + Lesser Masticore / Safehold Elite + Sac outlet

Steps: Have the 1 of each piece on the board (ex. Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit + Lesser Masticore + Blasting Station ) Use Blasting Station to sacrifice Lesser Masticore . Lesser Masticore comes back to the field and attempts to put a -1/-1 counter on it. Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit puts a +1/+1 counter on Lesser Masticore , resulting in no counters on it. Repeat until victory.

Results: Infinite ETB, death, and sac outlet triggers.

My original #1 combo for this deck, it has taken a backseat for now. The previous combo requires less set up, but that doesn’t make this one that much worse. It’s a very close second, and would be higher if we included more artifacts in the deck. (We may go back to this after testing)

Myr Retriever / Workshop Assistant + Scrap Trawler /either of the aforementioned 2 + Hamza, Guardian of Arashin + Sac Outlet

Steps: Have 2 Myr Retriever effects on the field/one in GY, along with Hamza, Guardian of Arashin (with 3< +1/+1 counters amongst creatures [1 per creature]) and a sacrifice outlet. (ex. Myr Retriever + Scrap Trawler + Hamza, Guardian of Arashin + <3+ on separate creatures + Altar of Dementia .) Sacrifice Myr Retriever grabbing whatever you want the first time only. Sacrifice Scrap Trawler to bring back Myr Retriever to hand. Recast Myr Retriever for free, and sac it again to get back Scrap Trawler . Repeat.

Results: Infinite ETB, death, and sac outlet triggers.

This combo is good as it uses stuff we already want! The Devoted Druid is useful as a mana dork anyways, and the other two pieces are part of our first combo! Walking Ballista is a good finisher here, but also Genesis Wave / Steel Hellkite can win slowly with infinite mana.

Devoted Druid + Vizier of Remedies / Melira, Sylvok Outcast +Outlet

Steps: Have Devoted Druid and either Vizier of Remedies / Melira, Sylvok Outcast on field. Tap Devoted Druid for a G mana, then untap it by placing a -1/-1 counter on it. Vizier of Remedies / Melira, Sylvok Outcast cancel out that counter completely. Repeat for infinite mana. Use infinite mana in an outlet like Walking Ballista .

Results: Infinite green mana.

Karmic Guide + Reveillark + Sac Outlet

This is a combo that can be easy to assemble, and our commander can make us pay very little mana into it, however I think it’s less efficient than the other 3 combos. I barely realized the combo was in here when brewing, and I just want to make people aware of it in case it happens in the game without much set up (as it can!).

Steps Have one of the two on the field, with the other on field or in GY, as well as a sacrifice outlet. Have Karmic Guide bring back Reveillark to the field. Sacrifice Karmic Guide Sacrifice Reveillark bringing back Karmic Guide (and another if you want). Repeat.

Results: infinite ETBs, death triggers, and sac outlet triggers.
