Mildly gimmicky casual state-based exploit deck based on none other than my favourite sexually charged snake monster who appears in all of my least favourite sets! I apparently got a Reborn when MOM dropped and likely accidentally cycled into my egg deck, whereupon it was promptly expunged and thrown into the bulk pile last I edited that deck. Flashfoward to starting to get into standard with the playgroup and digging around for legal cards and I realize it's not a terrible card on its own, but really needs to be in a hydra deck to be worth a damn. Immediate issue - hydras are best in a zax deck, a different x deck (which are historically going to anything but white,) or a monogreen deck; the inclusion of white in Reborn's mana identity seemed like a deliberate (if completely sensible) overbalance for what is an admittedly above average ability on its flipside. Your best option for working with Reborn in a commander setting at all is building around him or sneaking him into some weird hydra subthemed or changeling deck to actually capitalize on that ability, and this is something additionally prohibitive outside of a deck with a strongly green mana base given he's three whole G's upfront before you can hit his easy transformation cost. Fortunately, by consolidating being off and building around him, you can make a selesnya deck that isn't completely boring! Finding him while working on fresh standard bullshit gave me an epiphany. One of my favourite cards in standard right now is Dewdrop Cure, a powerhouse weenie reviver. With a little critical thinking, one can realize hydras are basically modular weenies. In fact, what I would consider a primary downside to the hydra archetype is they nearly all have base 0 toughness, meaning if you're not casting them, they die instantly (the nomenclature related to "die" in this case is a little tricky, but as far as my research would suggest, playing them right into oblivion for cheap still works for death triggers, unlike the legend rule, which does not.) You can probably see where I'm going with this. Ramp hard, shit out Poopkranos, and he'll shit out little reacher and lifelinker turds all day long as long as you're subjecting your other hydras to the Sisyphean torment of miscarriage casts and failed reanimation. Go wide or use the mana you had to get to get the big man out to go tall.
