Broken Wings Discussion

Broken Wings i want to run Naturalize effects in my decks but its offten hard to justify something that might end up being a dead card some games. This thing is an overachiever imo. It's as close to a mono green Utter End or VindicateI ever want to see

Ok so basically you want to build a landfall deck with +1/+1 counter synergies.

First off, there are some cards I recommend you cut since they don't add enough to your gameplan. Commune with Nature is a decent dig spell but it's probably better to just pack more threats instead and cut them. Reclaim the Wastes and Vastwood Surge synergize well with the deck but are unfortunately just not that great cards. The other cards I'd cut are Broken Wings, Sudden Spinnerets, and Vines of Vastwood.

I'd add some better removal in Path to Exile, maybe Prismatic Ending with a single Indatha Triome.

Undergrowth Champion is a fun card. More Hardened Scales and Conclave Mentor can multiply +1/+1 counters.

Gleeock Deathsprout is probably a better option.

But my pick is Broken Wings one card can hit 3 different permanent types at instant speed

I recommend adding some more early game ramp creatures or spells, probably as replacements for the Dragon Egg s and the risky Nikya of the Old Ways . More Dragonlord's Servant are totally fine, but I could also see Voyaging Satyr working to untap Gruul Turf for big mana or Zhur-Taa Druid bridging the gap between acceleration and aggression. On the spell side of things, some good old Rampant Growth effects could make Dragonmaster Outcast a nasty threat. Just looking at the cards you already have, I think more copies of Thunderbreak Regent , Atarka, World Render , and Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma wouldn't hurt. Another option if you don't mind infinite combos is upping the count of Savage Ventmaw and Grand Warlord Radha so you can run Hellkite Charger for endless combat phases.

I'll also list some possible upgrades and sidegrades based on my own experience playing with and against dragons. Dragon Tempest is nearly a direct upgrade for Impact Tremors in dragons and Scourge of Valkas is also decent. Draconic Roar seems like it would be better than Magma Jet and/or Jaya's Greeting most of the time. Spit Flame might be even better if targets tend to have 4 toughness. Flying destruction feels unnecessary here, but I'd prefer something cheaper than Pinion Feast like the flexible Broken Wings regardless. Frontier Siege might be better than Atarka Monument if you need more mana or removal. Crucible of Fire could replace Sight of the Scalelords or Dragon Throne of Tarkir , depending on how much power you need. Sarkhan, Fireblood can be a rummager, accelerant, and bomb in the world you keep him alive. Even with so many legendaries, I still prefer Elvish Piper to Thran Temporal Gateway here. A final card that I'm not sure on is the new Draconic Intervention . Seems like it could be an interesting sweeper follow-up to a Descent of the Dragons that turns all your dorks into immune dragons. That is fairly slow though.

Let me know if you have any questions and good luck with your deck!

For most decks, Cultivate is the best ramp spell available in Standard. For a landfall deck, Roiling Regrowth and Migration Path are better because they allow you to get two lands onto the battlefield in one turn.

Fabled Passage is strictly better than Evolving Wilds , by a lot, if you have the wildcards for it.

Sarulf, Realm Eater seems like a good card for a kind of midrange deck like this, but it's secretly really slow. The earliest you're likely to activate it is turn 5, and without other creatures to draw removal spells from your opponent, Sarulf is likely to eat one. The T5 activation is likely to only exile a few small creatures, as he'll only have 1-2 counters on him. At that point, it's just better to play Extinction Event or Blood on the Snow .

Miscast seems an odd one-of to me. It's very situational, but you haven't even given yourself many chances to find that situation to use it. I'd recommend Saw It Coming instead if you really need counterspells. It works well with Roiling Regrowth since you can hold up countermagic in case they do something threatening, then use Regrowth or Behold the Multiverse if they don't.

Your sideboard is a little all over the place. I'm not the best with sideboards, but think about each individual card and what matchups you're going to bring it in for. Wilt or Return to Nature are also better than Broken Wings 4/5 times.

harkness on Tyvar Kell Reclaims Skemfar

While in the commander deck, the Crown of Skemfar is not standard legal. Also 4 Tyvar Kells? I feel you only need 2 especially with Harald. Speaking of, Id bring the Harald's up to 4, add in 4 Tajuru Blightblade instead of the 2 Grizzled Outrider and 2 Elven Bow if Fliers are going to be a problem, I'd put the bows in the sideboard IMO. I feel Broken Wings can be switched out for something lke Canopy Tactician if you have access to it. I'd also remove the Skemfar Elderhall entirely, the ability is expensive even with your nice ramp.

Harald Unites the Elves is a must for this deck, you'll have a ton of elves out there its really great if you can pull it off.

Otherwise very similar to my own deck, I use King Harald's Revenge on Tajuru to great effect.
