Overview

Tayam really struck a chord with me, partly because he's in colors that intrigue me, and partly because his ability lends itself to a reactive, 'toolbox' style of gameplay. This led me to think about how I can best set up the graveyard to ensure that whatever ability I need is just 3 mana away. Not to mention, he's a huge, glowing, nightmare sloth beast and that's just plain cool.

I threw together a somewhat typical counter-based deck to best utilize Tayam's activated ability. It's only the slightest bit limited, hitting only permanents up to MV = 3, so I had to be sure that the majority of our deck has a low mana cost. Because we can activate it at instant speed, most of our creatures act as interaction by themselves, allowing us to pull them to the battlefield whenever we need.

After struggling for a bit getting a combo-less deck to work, I leaned the other way and started leaning into into combos. Tayam's potential is far too tempting.

Card and Combo Rundown

Tayam's ability grants each creature entering the battlefield a vigilance counter. This is quite helpful in enabling his own ability. However, if we plan to activate this often, we need to keep our creatures stocked with plenty of counters to pull from.
Abzan Ascendancy
Carrion Feeder
Cathars' Crusade
Devoted Druid
Evolution Sage
Luminous Broodmoth
Managorger Hydra
Scavenging Ooze
Winding Constrictor

Before we can start to utilize our graveyard like a toolbox, we need to fill it with our useful permanents. Tayam himself mills three cards with each activation, but some other ways to accelerate this include:
Entomb
Fauna Shaman
Perpetual Timepiece
Skull Prophet

and of course, our sacrifice outlets such as:
Carrion Feeder
Viscera Seer

As I mentioned, most of our permanents have a mana value less than 3, which allows Tayam's ability to pull them back to the battlefield at instant speed. This means most of our recur-able creatures either have a handy ETB trigger, or can activate their ability at instant speed.

Aven Mindcensor, Grand Abolisher: Control our opponents, but just a little.

Dauntless Escort, Spore Frog, Sylvan Safekeeper: Protect ourself and our battlefield pressence.

Eternal Witness: Reclaim spells, or anything that Tayam can't hit.

Hallowed Spiritkeeper: Upon sacrifice, make a lot of tokens.

Knight of Autumn, Qasali Pridemage, Reclamation Sage: Essentially a Naturalize on a body (or a couple bonus options with Knight).

Sakura-Tribe Elder: Repeatable land ramp.

Devoted Druid is already known as one of the most busted cards in the game, and we have two combos here to really show that off:

Hashep Oasis can sacrifice itself to give a creature a temporary +3/+3. Naturally, we're going to give that to our Druid. With this stat boost, we can now tap her three times, adding 3x Green mana and 3x -1/-1 counters. With Tayam on the battlefield, we can use the mana and remove the counters to activate his ability, giving us one activation. With Druid free of her counters, we're free to repeat this process as many times as we desire. This ultimately dumps our entire library into our graveyard.

Vizier of Remedies, a rather innocuous uncommon from Amonkhet, is the perfect partner for our Druid. Vizier's cost reduction allows us to untap Druid for zero (0) -1/-1 counters. In short, this means infinite green mana. Why not channel all of that into an arbitrarily big Finale of Devastation for some massive power? Otherwise, you can take three of your massive creatures, throw them on Altar of Dementia, end your turn, and get a triple-KO. Be careful: Vizier prevents the infinite Tayam mill / Hashep combo above.
Note: Because Vizier reduces the number of counters, we can legally place 0 counters on Druid. If it prevented counters, like Solemnity, this interaction wouldn't work.
(Man, Amonkhet was really trying to break Druid, huh?)

Promise of Bunrei is a card I hadn't seen before building this deck. This enchantment has a somewhat unique effect, being able to sacrifice itself to produce tokens. Luckily, having a Mana Value of 3 means with Tayam and a little preparation, we can loop this enchantment infinitely. For this to work, we need either Ashnod's Altar or Phyrexian Altar on the battlefield. Simply sacrifice any creature to trigger Bunrei, netting four spirits with four vigilance counters. Use three of these counters, and sacrifice either three (Phyrexian) or two (Ashnod's) to make at least three mana for Tayam. Use this activation to return Bunrei to the battlefield, and repeat this process, potentially generating infinite mana and/or spirit tokens, depend on which altar you use. Regardless, you'll also be causing an indefinite amount of sacrifice / death triggers, which will make your Blood Artist happy.

A similar loop can be done with Hallowed Spiritkeeper.

Winning the Game

As a toolbox-style deck, our primary goal is to provide as much interaction as we can over the course of the game, eventually draining or pinging away the last of our opponents' life totals.

One well-timed Finale of Devastation or Eerie Ultimatum can win the game in one fell swoop.
