Grist, the Hunger Tide

Legendary Planeswalker — Grist

As long as this isn't on the battlefield, it's a 1/1 insect creature in addition to its other types.

+1: Create a 1/1 black and green insect creature token, then mill a card. If an Insect card was milled this way, put a loyalty counter on Grist and repeat this process.

-2: You may sacrifice a creature. When you do, destroy target creature or planeswalker.

-5: Each opponent loses life equal to the number of creature cards in your graveyard.

Yeah I 100% agree with Balaam__

In addition to Urborg Lhurgoyf, Collected Company also requires a certain density of creatures to be able to get two hits consistently. Instead of 13 creatures, most usually advise about double what you have (so 26). I would cut a bunch of the random noncreature cards you have like Languish, Mesmeric Orb, 1-2 Abrupt Decay, 1-2 Assassin's Trophy, Grisly Salvage. Removal and self mill is good but you just don't have space for them.

I recommend 4x Satyr Wayfinder. Strong self mill creature, helps you hit land drops, and you can get it off CoCo.

The problem is that you also need card types for Tarmogoyf, but enough creatures for Lhurgoyf and CoCo. I recommend running 2 Grist, the Hunger Tide. Besides being a strong card on its own, it helps with self mill, can fill in the removal slot over Decay/Trophy, and is a CoCo hit. It is ALSO a planeswalker, so it helps with delirium and Tarmogoyf.

Varolz, the Scar-Striped is another good 1-2 of that you can get off CoCo and synrgizes well with goyf. Because / creatures keep their p/t in the graveyard, you can pay 1G to exile a 8/9 Lhurgoyf from the yard and put 8 +1/+1 counters on something.

Splinterfright could be a consideration for the 3 drop slot.

You don't have many one drops, so Ignoble Hierarch might be good to ramp into a t2 kicked Lhurgoyf or a t3 CoCo. Stitcher's Supplier is a good self mill 1 drop creature also.

I looked for a 3 cmc or less artifact creature in GB that would be worth running to get the artifact type + a CoCo hit but couldn't find any good ones.

Reclamation Sage would be good in the sideboard.

Stoic_Gaming no worries, it looks like people have taken on the spirit of the conversation in any case - so hopefully it's going in the direction you intended :)

For me, my favourite colour hands-down is , with almost all of my decks being some variation of , , , or . Red, conversely is not really in my preferred playstyle at-all, to the point where I basically play nothing red... there is only a very small handful of red cards I find appeals to me.

I'm a massive fan of Grist, the Hunger Tide and Grim Flayer, being someone who prefers midrange strategies and grindy "cruel control". This probably also explains my hatred of Omnath, Locus of Creation, as it is almost impossible to fight-against with a midrange strategy, while also being a card that doesn't appeal to me at all (probably in part because of its red-ness)

Nice deck! Who is your commander? Have you considered Grist, the Hunger Tide?

This contains Unstable cards, so I'll acknowledge that there might not be a working answer (Like Far Out and Outlaws Merriment).

Say I control Yet Another Aether Vortex. The top card of my library happens to be Grist, the Hunger Tide.

Grist is on the battlefield, meaning he wouldn't be an insect. However, he's also in my library, which is not the battlefield (Which would normally make him an insect).

Is this Grist an Insect Creature?

Absolutely Kaweiwu!

I did have BBE in some of the early versions of the deck. The main reason is that there are better 4-drops and even a 5-drop that are strong finishers. Olivia Voldaren being the best of those. Also, with Riveteers Charm in the deck, it could be a bad hit off BBE as the most common mode choice is the second one.

You could definitely tweak the list by running 3-4 copies of Bloodbraid Elf, a playset of Nissa, Voice of Zendikar as the only planeswalker in the deck (Maybe keeping a single Liliana, the Last Hope, Domri, Anarch of Bolas or even Grist, the Hunger Tide), and really focus on the +1/+1 Counters plan with Bloodhall Ooze.

As the deck is now, there are several lines to victory:
Combat damage (Most common)
Ultimate Sorin the Mirthless
Posion Counters with Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon
Endless Zombies with Liliana, the Last Hope

By cutting the 4+ MV cards for Bloodbraid Elf, the deck loses 2 win conditions. You could still run the higher MV cards, but risk cascading through them in the process.

Hope that helps a little bit. Thanks for the question!

Since Vespa, City of Queens seems to be a card people on here enjoy, I figured I'd take a page out of Grist, the Hunger Tide's playbook.

Vespa, Mother of Queens

Legendary Planeswalker - Vespa

As long as Vespa, Mother of Queens isn't on the battlefield, she's a 1/1 Insect creature in addition to her other types.

+1 Create a 1/1 green Insect creature token with flying and deathtouch. It gains Riot until end of turn.

-2 Make a token copy of the creature card named Hornet Nest.

-7 Create five token copies of the creature card named Hornet Queen.

4

Make another Planeswalker who uses the wording like Vespa, where she references making a token copy of a card with a specific name, or maybe "You may cast a copy of XXXXX without paying it's mana cost." for instant and sorcery spells.
