Grist, the Hunger Tide
Legendary Planeswalker — Grist
As long as this isn't on the battlefield, this is a 1/1 insect creature in addition to the card's other types.
+1: Create a 1/1 black and green insect creature token, then mill a card. If an Insect card was milled this way, put a loyalty counter on this and repeat this process. (To mill a card, put the top card of your library into your graveyard.)
-2: You may sacrifice a creature. When you do, destroy target creature or planeswalker.
-5: Each opponent loses life equal to the number of creature cards in your graveyard.

You do understand that Grist, the Hunger Tide *list* can be fetched with Jarad's Orders and is also a "creature" in your graveyard? (However, Grist should be fetched your hand, and Bloodghast should be fetched to your graveyard. You're gonna have to get some fetch lands tho. ;)
You're welcome.

MistaMint I don't even know where to start with your build. Your build is one dimensional and lacking real teeth.
Obviously, if you look closely, my curve is smoother and my payoffs are more impactful. You don't even run an alter. You don't run mana dorks. You don't run Sanguine Bond. Your instant and removal package has the essence of a C-squad soccer team. You have no Grist, the Hunger Tide *list* no Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools that actually do the thing you mentioned, a sac outlet and a repeatable body. Those creatures you mentioned don't have a sac outlet attached to them. Persistent Specimen is just a bad card. Your enchantments are bad... No Bitterblossom!? No Fiend Artisan!? No Grave-Shell Scarab?! Grave-shell does EVERYTHING and it. is. Flavor. If our two lists go toe to toe, my list wins most of the time simply because I have quality mana dorks.
Your list is just spamming +1/+1 counters.
I can get damage through, I can passively get aristocrat life-loss/gain through, I make use of Savra's life gain = loss for my opponents, AND I run an infinite damage combo that even SYNERGIZES with Savra.
And lastly... you're running gates?? Go ahead and take another quick look at my land package. I've been building decks since 95. I appreciate your obvious love for the game, but I'm sorry to say that I don't resonate with your overall construction philosophy. As I mentioned before, I think your build is lacking in real impact, an inability to respond to unexpected situations (where is your Imp's Mischief??), easily defeated by targeted removal and blowouts, and a very poor and terrible mana curve.
So... yeah.
TealerC on Help with grist mill deck

My commander Grist, the Hunger Tide mills until he mills a non Insect so I use Maskwood Nexus to make all my creatures into Insects and I was thinking about using Mycosynth Lattice to make everything else into artifacts but I need some help to get this across the finish line. My end goal is for this to mill the entire deck, also it has to be green/black or colorless

Sakaizokan, Ravenous Colony
Legendary Creature - Insect Wall
Defender
When Sakaizokan enters the battlefield, create X 1/1 red insect creature tokens named Fire Ant. They have ": This creature deals 1 damage to any target."
Whenever you are attacked, Sakaizokan deals X damage divided as you choose among attacking creatures equal to the number of insects you control.
6/6
Dragonlair Spider, Hornet Queen, Hornet Nest, Ant Queen, Beacon of Creation, Carrion, Grist, the Hunger Tide, Amzu, Swarm's Hunger, Izoni, Thousand-Eyed, Living Hive, Broodhatch Nantuko, Nest of Scarabs, Xira, the Golden Sting
I mean are you kidding me? And this isn't even all of them, and not even all of the best ones in these colors. Not to mention all of the all of the black punishment effects, all of the red ETB damage effects or all of the green propagation effects.
Your challenge is to make another interesting Commander, and showcase several cards that would be in their deck starting precon deck.
Remember this is a precon deck, so cards should largely be between $1 and $3 each, with maybe two or three $10 max cards.
And if you look, yes I did adhere to my own rule with Beacon of Creation, Grist, the Hunger Tide and Amzu, Swarm's Hunger being the expensive ones in the list.
Aspitxon on Does Verdant Succession trigger if …

Basically what the title says. Let's say I have both Verdant Succession and Grist, the Hunger Tide in the battlefield and Grist gets destroyed. Would it count for Verdant Succession's "when a green nontoken creature is put in the graveyard from play"? The doubt arises from Grist being a creature while it isn't on the battlefield. Does it have to be a creature while in play and in graveyard for Verdant Succession to trigger or just when it touches the graveyard?

I know last updated 4 years ago at the time of leaving this comment. still thought id maybe leave a suggestion or two. before I say anything Id like to say the glissa deck you have seems fun and is very different than mine. that isnt a bad thing i enjoy seeing alternate takes. she is/was my first commander deck i built as well.
Jhoira's Toolbox, by no means do I hate this card. might I suggest Welding Jar. Jhoira's cost 2 to cast, then another 2 to regenerate a target. Welding jar is 0, and Sac to Regen target. the obvious downsides and benefits are that Jhoira doesnt have to sac itself to regenerate. however it is specific to artifact creatures. Welding jar targets any artifact.
Doom Blade, i would replace with Assassin's Trophy. either or is fine imho.
Some cards i would suggest maybe but i dont have any replacement ideas would be, Grist, the Hunger Tide, Casualties of War, Ashes to Ashes, Grisly Salvage, Skullclamp.
by no means do you have to listen to any of my card suggestions as i said above i have no recommendations for what to remove for those cards. just some food for thought.
i used to run Triskelion in my deck i dont anymore tho. Myr Battlesphere is another card i used to run but took out as well. neither of them are bad by any means. i just removed them arbitrary reasons.
side note, it always makes me happy to see Disciple of the Vault. dont see that card too much these days!

Playing either Agatha's Soul Cauldron or using Grist, the Hunger Tides -2 ability on MTGO will both beautifully illustrate how ”when you do” effects interact with the stack.

If I have Umori, the Collector as a companion on a Grist, the Hunger Tide mono insect deck and I activate +1 I will mill all my deck, how could I win with that?
Edit: I forget about the lands sorry but any help it's good to improve my deck, I need a list of all golgari mtg insects legal in comander so I can filter my favorite of them in this deck, if someone have the list I will be very happy, thanks.
