Added Heroes' Podium to the deck. Will see how it plays out during testing.Changes
hedonizzet, 9 years ago
after going 2-3 at fnm (dropping at the sixth round) made these changes
- took out 1x Ojutai's Command was a dead card more than it helped, so it moved to the sideboard
- took out 2x Valorous Stance also moved to the sideboard
- took out 1x Perilous Vault never played it once. clearly needed to be replaced
-
took out 1x Lightning Strike replaced with Roast
-
added 1x Narset Transcendent Narset is a great addition to this deck, never fails to perform exceedingly well. nets at least one free card (a scry at the extreme least) never a bad play to follow up them tapping out
- added 1x Roast the current format seems loaded with Siege Rhino s and other powerful ground creatures, so Roast is more effective as a one-of in the main, as well as one in the side.
- added 3x Hallowed Moonlight with so many decks utilizing Collected Company , Whip of Erebos and token strategies, I felt this card is extremely main-deck playable. Fantastic card , just side out for Valorous Stance if needed!
also added a sideboard list. let me know what you think!

Returning to FNM after 6 months of inactivity, another 2nd place at Gamer's Vault, Montreal.
FNM 3-1
Rasta_Viking29, 9 years ago
Rd 1 Sultai Control 2-0
We both drew a bunch of lands and I ended up getting there. I Angered with Goggles and cast another to remove a Silumgar, the Drifting Death. Game 2 I was able to beat an Orbs of Warding with Vault.
Rd 2 Mono Black Devotion 0-2
Can't remember if I won one or not. Palace Siege is great against my deck because it tends to play games with high turn counts and a lot of value can be accrued. Only vault hits it and I want to stick Goggles and Outpost Siege. Might need to attack this match up differently.
Rd 3 W/U Heroic 2-1
Died turn 4 of game 1 to T2 Hero of Iroas T3 Ordeal of Thassa & Ordeal of Heliod & Defiant Strike T4 Aqueous Form & Battle Mastery. Was able to control the board games 2 and 3.
Rd 4 Collected Abzan 2-1
Got run over game 1. Opponent got mana screwed games 2 and 3 and I had burn to take care of anything that made it to the board.

Minor Updates, lowering curve.
ousire, 9 years ago
Removed Myr Battlesphere since it relied on other myr for maximum effectiveness, Increasing Devotion since it just made 1/1 humans, Conjurer's Closet since I don't have many creatures worth bouncing, and Brave the Sands temporarily to test new cards.
Added in Nylea, God of the Hunt for trample and buff, Devout Invocation for more sources of stronger flying tokens, Knight of the Reliquary for fixing and thinning, and Shamanic Revelation to refill my hand
Also swapped out two basic lands for a Tranquil Garden and Riftstone Portal

FNM, comment clearing, and updated deck list

Well, I have learned that protection is going to be needed for my meta. Pretty much everyone is a control player. Anyways here how tonight went.
First match: U/B control Game one I got him down to 5 health, but he had a Jace, Telapath Unbound and Silumgar, the Drifting Death so my creatures couldn't get through. I kept wishing my Enshrouding Mists were Gods Willings. I lost that game eventually because he gained back life from Foul-Tongue Invocation and gain lands. Game two I sided in my Scab-Clan Berserkers for both Citadel Castellan. This time he destroyed everything I had with Bile Blight and Ultimate Price. He had Ugin, the Spirit Dragon and Silumgar again. Lost that one too.
Match 2: Mono White Enchantments He was mana screwed both games so I easily won. First game I should have mulliganed, but I slowly beat him down with Topan Freeblade. Game two I sided in Back to Nature and both Erases for 2 Mist and Mighty Leap. I had Goblin Glory Chaser out with 2 Freeblades and both Hardened Scales and quickly won that match.
Match 3: G/W Mid-range Basically I got screwed for red mana in both games and lost because she built a bigger board presence with Fleecemane Lions, Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit, and Managorger Hydras. For sideboard I put in my Valorous Stances and a Dromoka's Command. It didn't really help much.
Match 4: Esper Control Game one I couldn't get anything out there at all and need to say when I did I wanted Gods Willing over Mist. Game two I sided like the first match. The deck was on point this time with Glory Chasers, Scales, and Valeron Wardens. Finished him with Atarka's Command. Third game I only had two mana the whole time and he got Dragonlord Ojutai out on turn five ended it pretty quickly.
So overall I went 3-6-0 which is not what I wanted, but I know now the value of protection and how it will further my deck. I will update the deck list with an improved state that should help me in the mid-range and control match ups. Thanks everyone for the ideas and now I shall be preparing for Game Day!

Played 4 rounds of magic. End up placing third. Pulled a Archangel of Tithes from my prize packs.
Round 1 Won 2-1 vs an aggro Mono-Black deck played by Rusty.
Round 2 Won 2-0 vs an aggro Mono-Red artifact thopther deck played by Dan. Won second game due to Dan making a play error.
Round 3 Lost 0-2 vs a Tier 1 aggro Red Deck Wins played by Christopher. Christopher went on to place 1st. This match was a slaughter, unfortunately.
Round 4 Won 2-0 vs Tier 1 Abzan Midrange played by Robert. This is the same Abzan Midrange deck that I lost to at the previous FNM.
Due to time the tournament was ended final results were determined by points..
Over all the deck performed well. Still need to figure out how to deal with those RDW decks.

Update for Origins!
Darkmagi1131, 9 years ago
Ok now that Origins has dropped and we've had some time to look at it I'm considering some changes. Thinking of dropping 2x Eldrazi Temple and 2x Forest for 2x Overgrown Tomb

From a Do-Nothing, to a... Do... Something?

Cut a lot of the not so necessary cards for some cards that a lot of the time I won't loathe seeing. Blasting Station was usually mostly useless, so I replaced it with Fiend Hunter for it's interactions with Sun Titan and some of my other cards. Replaced Disciple of Bolas because I'd rather have Mentor of the Meek always. So it's spot went to Sigil Captain who does a good job making tokens beefy enough to matter. Shriekmaw was a hard to abuse, narrow spot removal spell, a spot that goes to Karmic Guide, which combos with Reveilark. To account for all of the creatures I'm adding, and for the fact that it is slow and vulnerable to removal I've removed Fauna Shaman in favor of Diabolic Intent... A cheaper alternative as Fauna Shaman has raised in price over the past couple months. I've removed a recent addition in Garruk, Primal Hunter. I had him in here for card draw and token production but I don't need more card draw (Removed a few of the more expensive ones for more splashier cards). In it's place I've added Cathars' Crusade to combo with Ghave and to quickly make my tokens get out of hand. (Could also combo infinitely with Puppeteer Clique and a free sacrifice outlet if I could find the room for it). Life's Legacy was an easy cut for a few reasons. It was just an overcosted wrath that could help other people more than it could help this particular build of the deck like the previous versions of it. I decided to instead add in Rune-Scarred Demon as another way to find combo pieces and getting specific kinds of removal for any situation. (It's also abusable but if I get annoyed, shuffling so much this spot might just go to Avenger of Zendikar, especially with the new art that's coming out.)... Just one last card that I'm calling a "flex spot". Didn't know what to replace Deadbridge Chant with and knew I wanted it to go. Decided to try out Viscera Seer since I own it and it'll give me a free sacrifice outlet and some filtering. Considered Utopia Mycon in this spot but it seems a bit more combo-durdle than I'm going for.
Well, that's it... for now. Gonna playtest around with the deck and see whether the deck's mana base can handle the new additions. 4 more double white spells seems like it might be asking too much but I think I have the fixing. If not you might be seeing a new report.

round 1: Naya Zoo 1-1-1 game 1: managed a turn 4 combo. game 2: atarka command burns me out on turn 4. game 3: draw with him at 7 and me at 19 with 2 of 3 pieces on the board and chord in hand. round 2: Dredgevine 2-0 game 1: turn 3 combo. game 2: ooze keep graveyard empty of threats until turn 5 combo. round 3: Temur Delver 2-1 game 1: combo on turn 4. game 2: triple delver flip gets me down WAY faster than I was prepared for. game 3: Eidolon of Rhetoric enables a turn 5 combo. round 4: Merfolk 2-0 game 1: combo on turn 3, perfect hand. game 2: combo on turn 6 after a few pieces got bounced and had to be replayed. My feelings overall for the night were that Eidolon of rhetoric and Chord of calling were allstars and that I drew extremely well in the large majority of my games. I'm starting to feel that despite being worse for some reasons, I actually prefer melira as opposed to anafenza. The major points being shes much easier to cast, contributes better in a tight spot to chord mana and presents less triggers to be responded to during the combo, this is especially useful if you're trying to avoid a kill shot on persist creature with anafenza's bolster still on the stack. Love the deck, will be sticking with it for the foreseeable future!

Went 3-2 and got 11th place out of 26 people. Not too bad.
2-2 FNM: Disappointing
Spinifex, 9 years ago
I lost the first two and won the last two. Three of those decks, however, were brews and not terribly competitive.
-
1-2 Jeskai tokens. Lost first, won second and he just topdecked everything he needed last game. Very frustrating. Butcher of the Horde again does nothing but die to removal.
-
1-2 Mardu Dragons. He drew more Crackling Doom and that was it I guess.
The last two were not competitve.
Changes are coming, as soon as I can get a good idea.

Third FNM
DarkAurora7, 9 years ago
Ended in third place tonight with a 2-1 record. My first match was against a mono-red deck running Prophetic Flamespeaker. Won that match 2-1 by removing all of his threats. Second match was against Selesnya Assault Formation, lost that 0-2 after not getting white mana the first game, and not drawing enough creatures game two. My final match was against Izzet Artifacts. This was an easy matchup, as his deck had a stupidly high curve, and survived for a while in game two chump blocking my Mantis Riders with his thopter tokens, until I got Dragonlord Ojutai out.
Changes to make: None, other than acquiring a second Battlefield Forge.

2-2 Game 1: elves : loss in 2 was drawing both games lands and nothing else. Game 2: blue green(splash of green): won in 3. Game one i lost with a slow start and his 4/1 turn 2 simply was too much. He also was ready with the counter megamorpher and tore me apart. Game two i brough in negates and rending volley. I was able to generate a board of roughly 7 thopters and with rouge, engineer and pia and kiren i quickly started to dominate. Round three didnt change board and was a repeat of valie from my thoptor army. Game 3: izzet (non thoptor): won in 3. Game one i was slow and wasnt able to deal with a thunderbreak regeant with out taking 6 and it brought me down too 6 and lost. I brought in game 2 again negate and rending volley. My thoptors were a tank in the sence i had so many on board and he couldnt handle the fact engineer gave them haste. Love those little gizmos. Game 3 was a repeat and i was also able to get out thoptor spynetwork to keep him from out drawing me so i never ran out of a hand while he got to topdeck mode. Game 4: goblins lost in 2. Game one i was delt 3 turn 2 and 17 turn 3..... All i played was lands. Game 2 i got a guy... Or 2..... He still delt way to much turn 5 killing me So virdect : thoptors are awsome.... Aggro is a rough match and will need a sweeper in sideboard besides anger of the gods. Control/ midrange decks will have a tough time dealing with a large boardstate unless they run languish like wrath cards. Minor tweaking to the deck will be done to make ot more effective. I still think thoptors will be a deck in standard this fnm shows promise

In 3 matches at FNM I lost all 3. In two the matches I went 0-2 and in the third I went 1-2 because my opponent drew a bad shuffle. I keep running out of cards, even against non-control decks. I don't have enough counters, I don't have enough power. The Exqusite Firecraft did pretty good against the control deck, but I didn't draw the fourth copy to finish them off. I will rework this deck and hopefully at least have one that is somewhat fun.

Rebalancing
Keegabyte, 9 years ago
Whisperwood Elemental being a one-of is pretty bad in here. Thornbow Archer also wants to be in here as it allows the deck to be extremely aggressive. So, I removed the Whisperwood Elemental, 1 Reclamation Sage, 1 Obelisk of Urd, and 1 Chord of Calling for the playset of Thornbow Archer. At tonight's FNM, it went 4-0 without dropping a game so for now, this is the best-looking version. In regard to Chandrian

Thank you for the reccomendations! I'm not sure about Browbeat but I'll try it out. As for Flesh / Blood replacing Fall of the Hammer I plan on doing that. Targeting a player directly would be great. The only downside I see is losing the instant speed; I think there are more situations however where targeting a player will help me more than hitting a creature on the opponents turn. I did look at Satyr Hoplite as an option when first making the deck, and I'm still not sure of him. He only gets 1 counter every time he's targeted which would make him a lot harder to buff and deal the major damage I'd want. It would give me a lot more speed though and getting enough time to set up is challenging. I think I'll be testing the deck out both with and without him in order to see what's more effective. I think he'll make a good side deck option at the least. And lastly I plan on comparing Elvish Mystic to Explore and see which works better. Thank you very much for taking the time to respond and make suggestions. It is much appreciated!
