Polishing My Main Board
Fantastic_Mr_King, 10 years ago
First I want to say that I absolutely love the pauper format. It's competitive and good decks are cheap to build. My favorite qualities of any format I play. My deck hasn't gone through many drastic changes but I do want to make a note of them.
My main board:
I took out Fists of Ironwood, the namesake of my deck. I really like the card but it wasn't doing enough for me. It's primary function was to take the sting off edict cards (ex. Diabolic Edict). The problem with that is that my opponent can make me sac it in response to me playing it, which happened often. After doing some digging through the gatherer I discovered, or more appropriately rediscovered, Khalni Garden. I knew of this card but I was very reluctant to play it since I don't like my lands to come in tapped. However, after some testing I found that it rarely became an issue and that the payout was far greater than the drawback. After I added the garden I removed 2 fists. I really reluctant to remove them completely but over time I felt that they were no longer necessary and that I would rather have an actual pump spell.
Another choice I was reluctant to make was to drop Staunch-Hearted Warrior to 3. I really LOVE this card but I really HATE having more than 1 in my opening hand. More often than I'd like I would be stuck with a pair of these, unable to play them, because I was 1 mana short. I fixed this by dropping 1 of my warriors and bringing my land count to 21. After some testing, I felt that I had made the right decision. I have fewer mana issues and I get stuck with a pair of warriors that I can't use less often. Win-Win! Lesson learned: Don't get too attached to the numbers. Sometimes 4 of is the wrong number and you have to accept that. Winning is more important than the deck list.
After playing brushing up on my magic knowledge and I decided to drop Apostle's Blessing. It's often a colorless protection spell which is awesome in a lot of matches and detrimental in others. Against red, black, and blue it was great. Against green and white, not so much. If I try to protect my creature in response to a green or white spell the auras of that color will fall off. I didn't know this at first. What I did was replace them with Vines of Vastwood. In my deck vines is superior in every way. It grants hexproof which stops most of the things I want protection to stop without making my auras fall off, it's green which makes it easier to cast, and it doubles as a respectable pump spell. I love this card.
For a while I was having trouble with mana, aside from having too little of it, which I fixed. I was having trouble getting my colors. I didn't know how to approach it since I didn't want to cut forest to make room for dual lands since I needed a healthy number for Utopia Sprawls. So what I did initially was add Evolving Wilds. This fixed my mana problem but then I found an even better solution, Naya Panorama. The fact that it doesn't come into play tapped is awesome. It really helps me play my threats on time which key for my decks success. I also added a mountain for sideboard options which I'll get to later.
I was on the fence about this card for a while. I needed 1 more good pump spell. I filled that slot with Travel Preparations. This card was in the initial deck design but I ended up taking it out to make room for other cards. As I trimmed the fat off my deck I re-added it to my list. It's so good. A single travel prep can account for 4 - 12 permanent points of power. That's awesome. And unlike the other pump spells in my deck it isn't subject to enchantment hate. This cards a keeper.
That covers all my main board changes. I'll cover all my sideboard changes at a later date. Happy Brewing!

Standard Tournement
Mintaaayyy, 10 years ago
Played a standard tournement last night and went 1-3 so didnt do too well, when talking to people they said it was abit too much like it was doing BR Dragons and Discard Control at the same time and that i should try and do one or the other. So im thinking i will try and lean it towards Discard control if anyone has any comments on how too change it up and stuff let me know :) am considering adding Foul-Tongue Invocation to remove stuff with indestructible or hexproof, mainboarding atleast two Ultimate Price and removing the Thunderbreak Regent from mainboard and possibly adding more card draw, aswell as removing Erebos, God of the Dead

Added 3x Steward of Valeron for turn three four drop like Collected Company, Elspeth, Knight-Errant and another new card, thanks to MM2 reprint, Wilt-Leaf Liege. I removed 1x Knight of Meadowgrain, 1x Selesnya Charm, 1x Angelic Destiny and a Plains to enable these changements.
Traded for some better cards.
chibiarden, 10 years ago
-1 Khalni Hyrda, -1Kalonian Hydra, -1Savageborn Hydra, -1Apocalypse Hydra, -2 Forest, -2 Plains, -2 Mountain, -1 Scion of the Wild, -1 Ray of Dissolution, -1 Tenza, Godo's Maul
+1 Soul of the Harvest, +1 Emmara Tendris, +1 Yosei, the Morning Star, +1 Dromoka, the Eternal, +1 Arashin Sovereign, +1 Twilight Shepherd, +1 Wrath of God, +1 Sol Ring, +1 Command Tower, +1 Rith's Grove, +1 Selesnya Guildgate, +1 Opal Palace, +1 Jungle Shrine
I took out the only 2 proxy's: Khalni Hydra and Kalonian Hydra, and I also took out a lot of / or 0/0 creatures, and put in some more with power 5 or greater.
Still looking for a Vorinclex, also looking for an Eldemari's Call. The deck is playing much better after the update. Now I don't have to depend on Commander Eesha or Beloved Chaplain as the best chump blockers. If I have a ton of tokens, All I have to do is get Emmara Tandris into play and I can block all day.

So I put in Volcanic Fallout in fear of tokens and counterspells, and I never saw it and sided it out each game.
I'll update with the results tomorrow afternoon.

Card Replacements
LaggaCorn, 10 years ago
APPLE01DOJ
Thank you APPLE01DOJ for the suggestion to replace Ultimate Price and Doom Blade for Victim of Night. It ended up saving sideboard space.
FAMOUSWATERMELON
Thank you FAMOUSWATERMELON for the suggestion to replace Blightsteel Colossus with Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. We originally totally forgot of how vulnerable Blightsteel Colossus is. The protection from all colors is amazing to keep our win con going.
Saljen
Thank you Saljen for the suggestion to replace Read the Bones with Serum Visions. We originally wanted to stay below $300 but now we gathered plenty of money to afford a more expensive deck. Also thank you for the suggestion to add more things we can Polymorph such as Blinkmoth Nexus or Inkmoth Nexus. We decided to add 4x Blinkmoth Nexusin replacement of our 4x Dismal Backwater. Also thank you for the suggestion to add in Bitterblossom for another thing to Polymorph. We decided to add that into the sideboard against more controlly decks.
THANK YOU
Thank you all for leaving amazing suggestions. Have a great Day!

First Tournament
Xavion13, 10 years ago
I went 2-2, which was better than i expected, the deck exceeded expectations.
Round one I went 2-0 against twin. Both games where very one sided because of my massive amounts of disruption.
Round Two- again went 2-0, this time against infect, Which again was a landslide in both games, Smallpox vs turn one Noble Hierarch decimated him both games.
Round Three- Lost 0-2 against affinity. Game one I got no land, I should have mulligan it, i was greedy a kept a one lander with two hand disruption spells. Game two I did not have the right sideboard card to beat the deck, All of my artifact removal was not fast enough, i also kept a hand without a second black source and it ruined me. I could not cast Smallpox on two.
The lesson i learned from that match was a need a way to beat that deck, because it would have taken me 8 out of 10 games easy and requires me to have a perfect hand to beat. Chalice of the Void is my choice
Round Four- Lost 0-2 against esper control. Game one faced a hideous flood, I drew 11 of my 21 lands, and my opener wasn't sketchy it was 3 land and 3 spells (I did have to mulligan a no lander). Game two I got off on the wrong foot having to wait a turn extra to cast a relevant spell and lost to Geist of Saint Traft.
I think I had a good shot to beat that deck, but fell short due to poor choices on weather or not to keep game 2.
In conclusion- The changes I plan to make to the deck are...
-2 Batterskull did a whole lot of nothing for me. -1 Anger of the Gods of all the decks there only one i would have boarded for. But I'm keeping 2 to fight tokens and that deck. -1 Rakdos Charm I only really need to see one copy to blow out twin. +2 Chalice of the Void for affinity mostly. +2 Leyline of the Void this is for that grixis delver list trolling around the net, considering i fuel that deck.

Changed a lot around, and more to come.
KillTheIslandUser, 10 years ago
Moved a lot of dorks out that weren't that great, plus got rid of cataclysm. I'm gonna make this more beat down plan, but still want it to be quick and make people sad and rethink their life decisions like my best friend says.
maybe board: Burgeoning Cloudstone Curio Earthcraft Faith's Reward Frontier Siege Mana Reflection Nature's Will Overwhelming Stampede Ravages of War Stonecloaker Temur Sabertooth Yeva, Nature's Herald

manifest is a bit risky....
Phaeqe, 10 years ago
with the knowledge that i cant flip those oh so necessary lands that I accedentally manifest i decided to beef up the morph aspect a bit more....so yeah! barely any manifest plenty of creatures!!!!
Update #1
Matthew186, 10 years ago
Took some suggestions and made some changes to the deck to make it a bit more consistent. Deck is still in prototype, as the physical deck I'm using is still the old version for the time being.
Dominator42, 10 years ago

+1 Buried Ruin +1 Lonely Sandbar +1 Secluded Steppe +1 Sejiri Refuge

Cards not to play in this deck! Also price updates
Rolska, 10 years ago
Cards that you should never, for any existing reason, play Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth in the main board. Unless there are some serious land changing shenanigans going on that you know about. The reason is, as I found out, flaunting your overpriced swamp in a Mono-Black deck is not only useless, but dangerous. Against a control deck it is very easy to take Guul Draz Assassin and make him into an extremely potent removal tool. A Blue-White Control deck that has the benefits of Tapping, discard, and counters, just gained Black's really only good benefit: Creature Removal. Don't do it.
Sorin Markov $10-$12 has now increased to $14-$17. Add at your wallet's risk.
This deck has raised about $8-$10. I guess that means WoTC has taken notice, increased their card value with their underground marketing strategies (Which you know exists, look at Black Lotus They probably have a vault with stacks on stacks and are just waiting to cash them in on the loaded Vintage community!)

Just a slight change
monkeyofficeboy, 10 years ago
I have just swapped out one land for another:
Out = Coastal Tower
In = Nimbus Maze
I recently got hold of the Future Sight dual, and it's a straight upgrade on Coastal Tower so in it goes.
