Cuts down to fifty!
HonoraryFugu, 10 years ago
Alright, I finally got it down to fifty, that took a while.
Kessig Wolf Run swapped for Frontier Bivouac.
Vastwood Hydra, Temur Battle Rage, and Soul's Fire) are all cut.
Burning-Tree Emissary and Willbender also cut. Need to test if I still want Willbender.
Swan Song swapped for Propaganda.
I am tempted to put Swan Song back in and take out Stubborn Denial, because countering every spell is well worth a 2/2 Swan. Thoughts here?

Orzhov Token Aggro

the general idea of the deck has changed. It is now much more towards generating tokens and overpowering your enemy with them.

Sideboard
JakeyPancakey, 10 years ago
I added some of your guys' suggestions to my sideboard. I'm gonna try replacing two Feat of Resistance's with two Center Soul's. I feel this is a valid change to this deck for one simple reason: rebound. The rebound on Center Soul means heroic can be triggered twice while still giving a creature protection from a chosen color. Hardened Scales comes in handy for this too because the targeted creature will gain an additional +1/+1 counter each time Center Soul is cast! Not only does Center Soul have more +1/+1 counter potential than Feat of Resistance, but it also has the same converted mana cost and can provide protection to a target creature twice.
Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver + Elspeth, Knight-Errant
Free-7hinker, 10 years ago
Tip: Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver + Elspeth, Knight-Errant They may seem odd, but they put two different kinds of pressure on your opponent. A good way to attack. These two pair up well vs Company and other midrange or aggressive decks. Backed up by counters and removal, it's a formidable strategy.

there are far too many cards and endless combinations so the grand plan of a modular decks will be placed on hold for now. I have stopped adding cards to the list from gatherer as it takes too long. I will make a mini version of the idea and also make it a true singleton/highlander deck including basic lands. so that will take up 39-40 slots for mana, that leave 10 cards for each color and 9-10 for artifacts. so each color will have 5 cards to help all and 5 to hinder all. I am looking for all inclusive effects so everyone is helped or hindered in the same way. I am avoiding anything that only targets only one opponent unless it is like Karona, False God, Assault Suit or Act of Authority where everyone gets to use the card in turn. I will also try to avoid infinite combos as those are only fun for me when I manage to pull those off, not the other players.
after running throught the list of cards and trying to piece togetther a theme for the deck, I think I will settle on a creature focus if I can find the effects on them. instead of draging out a game, I will try to speed it up a bit but still make it interesting. positive effects will require a cost and will not be passivly avalible. going to try and force ppl into action or make them suffer for their inactions. the luetenants will likeely have to come out for make room, and some effects are simular so I will narrow those down to one card and if possible have it on a creature to partake in the dissension from the warship of the false god.

Post Suggestion Changes
MagicMarc, 10 years ago
Following some suggestions from here and at the kitchen table I have made some small adjustments. Removed Chandra. Although she is amazing, she came out way too late and was dead in my hand most games I saw her. Removed the livewire lashes. They are cool but were pretty klunky in the deck. Added more burn, trying out different ones until I decide which I prefer.

Total Record 3-1 Round 1 - The mirror - 2-0 This one surprised me a little. I guess I'm happy someone else had the same train of thought as me though. It can only mean I'm heading in the right direction! :D Played out like a standard control mirror with extreme back and forth although the MD lingering souls + Sorin really got there. Round 2 - Gr Tron - 2-1 This result always makes me happy! Game one he had the ultimate inevitability in Emrakul and even though I managed to hold fast for a few turns I was no match. Game two came down to an early Stony Silence followed by soul beats to close it off. Game three I had another early stony silence although he answered this one with a nature's claim. He had two tron lands and a map in play and I thought it was over. Then I drew Fulminator Mage and immediately blow up his land so he can't search for tron. From that point he didn't see anymore lands and I denied him any draw or search and proceeded to wail on him with Ojutai bringing justice for control players everywhere Round 3 - Abzan Little Kid - 1-2 Game 1 I quickly overrun him with a Sorin to put my life in the mid-30's while simultaneously killing him. No contest. Game 2 I had him at 5 life, dead on board when he cast Blood Baron. Thinking it had flying I didn't attack into it which gave him just enough turns to stabilize and overwhelm me. Game 3 an early township + souls followed by a lack of a reset button quickly led to my demise. I'm happy I made that mistake at something so tiny rather than at a larger event and now I know that is a mistake I will not be making again! Round 4 - Esper Shackles - 2-0 - Gave him the win because he got paired down He had almost no wincons in his deck relying off of his opponent to do something so these games we played draw go until he tried to resolve an ashiok with backup. That was quickly countered. I then cast an Ojutai with Minamo and even his follow up Ashiok couldn't beat that. Game 2 lack of creatures on his part = ultimate of a Narset on mine. Overall the deck performed exceptionally! I can't wait to see what else this bad mother can do.
Major Revamp to the Deck
Coinman1863, 10 years ago
Due the the help of one BeckettWolfe on Untap, he has made some great suggestions to phase in over time for the deck. Currently I took out the Tendrils of Corruption for Phyrexian Obliterators. I also took out the Diabolic Tudors for more early game disruption, mainly Hymn to Tourach. And to get big things down earlier, I removed Blightsteel Colossus and Nantuko Shade for 2 Griselbrand. I also replace 4 Swamps with Polluted Delta, I wont replace more with fetchlands because I need the swamps to make Gauntlet of Power work. I also fixed the sideboard with some Surgical Extractions to help in the storm matchup.
In the future I'm looking at adding Liliana of the Veil, Cabal Ritual, and some other things to help make the deck flow better.

Kolaghan time! There's my fifth Dragonlord.
QGandalf, 10 years ago
Added Dragonlord Kolaghan after trading for her tonight. I hope she'll help with speeding the deck up a bit, I'm finding that I stall to a draw with most control decks rather than being able to overcome them with the dragons. Kolaghan followed by any of the other lords should prove instant GG. That and her second ability could prove very useful to prevent decks with 4 copies of a creature or planeswalker playing their extra copies once the first has been countered or killed. I've seen a lot of Ashiok and Kiora and it would be so nice to make my opponents work extra hard to play their follow ups. I also removed the fourth copy of Dig Through Time for a third Icefall Regent, as I don't have enough ways to get cards into the graveyard to justify having all four. Mike Flores made the same change when creating his deck, I should have paid attention to the reason why!
Getting Ready!

I'm piecing this deck together now. Once I get the last few cards, those pesky gods, I'll be testing this at and outside of FNM. I'll post further updates!

Polishing My Main Board
Fantastic_Mr_King, 10 years ago
First I want to say that I absolutely love the pauper format. It's competitive and good decks are cheap to build. My favorite qualities of any format I play. My deck hasn't gone through many drastic changes but I do want to make a note of them.
My main board:
I took out Fists of Ironwood, the namesake of my deck. I really like the card but it wasn't doing enough for me. It's primary function was to take the sting off edict cards (ex. Diabolic Edict). The problem with that is that my opponent can make me sac it in response to me playing it, which happened often. After doing some digging through the gatherer I discovered, or more appropriately rediscovered, Khalni Garden. I knew of this card but I was very reluctant to play it since I don't like my lands to come in tapped. However, after some testing I found that it rarely became an issue and that the payout was far greater than the drawback. After I added the garden I removed 2 fists. I really reluctant to remove them completely but over time I felt that they were no longer necessary and that I would rather have an actual pump spell.
Another choice I was reluctant to make was to drop Staunch-Hearted Warrior to 3. I really LOVE this card but I really HATE having more than 1 in my opening hand. More often than I'd like I would be stuck with a pair of these, unable to play them, because I was 1 mana short. I fixed this by dropping 1 of my warriors and bringing my land count to 21. After some testing, I felt that I had made the right decision. I have fewer mana issues and I get stuck with a pair of warriors that I can't use less often. Win-Win! Lesson learned: Don't get too attached to the numbers. Sometimes 4 of is the wrong number and you have to accept that. Winning is more important than the deck list.
After playing brushing up on my magic knowledge and I decided to drop Apostle's Blessing. It's often a colorless protection spell which is awesome in a lot of matches and detrimental in others. Against red, black, and blue it was great. Against green and white, not so much. If I try to protect my creature in response to a green or white spell the auras of that color will fall off. I didn't know this at first. What I did was replace them with Vines of Vastwood. In my deck vines is superior in every way. It grants hexproof which stops most of the things I want protection to stop without making my auras fall off, it's green which makes it easier to cast, and it doubles as a respectable pump spell. I love this card.
For a while I was having trouble with mana, aside from having too little of it, which I fixed. I was having trouble getting my colors. I didn't know how to approach it since I didn't want to cut forest to make room for dual lands since I needed a healthy number for Utopia Sprawls. So what I did initially was add Evolving Wilds. This fixed my mana problem but then I found an even better solution, Naya Panorama. The fact that it doesn't come into play tapped is awesome. It really helps me play my threats on time which key for my decks success. I also added a mountain for sideboard options which I'll get to later.
I was on the fence about this card for a while. I needed 1 more good pump spell. I filled that slot with Travel Preparations. This card was in the initial deck design but I ended up taking it out to make room for other cards. As I trimmed the fat off my deck I re-added it to my list. It's so good. A single travel prep can account for 4 - 12 permanent points of power. That's awesome. And unlike the other pump spells in my deck it isn't subject to enchantment hate. This cards a keeper.
That covers all my main board changes. I'll cover all my sideboard changes at a later date. Happy Brewing!

Standard Tournement
Mintaaayyy, 10 years ago
Played a standard tournement last night and went 1-3 so didnt do too well, when talking to people they said it was abit too much like it was doing BR Dragons and Discard Control at the same time and that i should try and do one or the other. So im thinking i will try and lean it towards Discard control if anyone has any comments on how too change it up and stuff let me know :) am considering adding Foul-Tongue Invocation to remove stuff with indestructible or hexproof, mainboarding atleast two Ultimate Price and removing the Thunderbreak Regent from mainboard and possibly adding more card draw, aswell as removing Erebos, God of the Dead
